Bally Twilight Zone (Bally, 1993) I can't get diverted

We are talking about a Twilight Zone, specifically the shooter diverter by the plunger. Consistently it will activate initially when required to divert the ball to the auto fire kicker, but only stays activated a couple of seconds and then closes before the auto fire kicker can launch the ball. When the solenoid is tested on repeat, it activates once and then fails to activate again, although you can near the hum of it trying to activate. Would greatly appreciate any thoughts.

The shooter diverter doesn’t use a solenoid like the other diverters, it uses a relay coil and armature configuration similar to outlane ball gates. Since there isn’t any blade switches to help the spring’s return action, the spring has to do all the work. Cleaning of the diverter shaft and bushings might help it’s movement.
Increasing the spring strength by cutting off a couple loops and lifting up the next loop.
