I have always had trouble getting "Colour to make Transparent" to work on bit maps. In the past, I have had some success changing the color to be transparent so it is the same as the default RGB 255, 128, 255 (the pink color that you see in the editor). The file I am using has a an 8 bit depth color pallet with 33 colors used. I have had some success setting transparency in the past using 24 bit depth with 16 millions colors so tried changing it with no luck.

Does anyone have any kind of trick to get it to work?

I did finally get it to work although I used a strange method. I opened a texture that I have successfully set areas for transparency in the past and sized it to be the same as my new texture. Then I copied and pasted my new texture into the old bit map. To my surprise it worked.

My guess is there is some sort of setting for bit maps that must be used but the manual doesn't say anything about it. I couldn't tell any difference in the old and bit maps.

Does anyone know what this setting might be?

Yah, when it comes to BMP, FP seems very picky with the settings the file used.

For me, I always would open the BMP in Windows Photo Viewer, rotate it 4 times (360), and then closed photo viewer. This would usually reformat the BMP in a way that FP liked. Not sure if this would help with transparent colour for BMP. I normally use TGA images with a transparent alpha channel and made the areas needed to be transparent invisible.

BMP files in fp need to also be saved as 24 bit and not 16 bit, and set to windows mode as opposed to IOS (if you are using photoshop). That may be your problem, your image editor is saving as 16 bit files, so if it has a option to change that, that might also solve your problem. BMP can do 32 bit as well, but really not needed. I've run into this a few times over the years, upping the bit depth usually fixed the transparency problem.

I am working with a file on one of my modified tables. The table had an 8 bit file which I converted to a 24 bit. It still didn't work.

I've about to decide to use a TGA file with a transparent alpha channel like Terry said. It is something of a pain to create but it has a better success path than trying to deal with FP's temperamental transparent BMPs.
