Gottlieb Solved Volcano (Gottlieb, 1981) pop bumper problem

Hello,

The pop bumper on the lower left side doesn't work at all. I tried plugging the connector from it to one of the other small circuit pop bumper boards underneath the playfield that I know works, but that didn't help. It used to occasionally work, then quit, then work again. However, it doesn't work at all now. Can anyone offer any ideas as to what is wrong? I checked the fuses and they are good. I just discovered today the right side lower pop bumper has now also quit.

have you checked for cracked solder connections on the male pins on all the pop bumper boards. sometimes they are hard to see. re-flow connections anyway to be sure. also check female connectors ( might be IDC type ) for loose wires.

Volcano pop bumper issue

After looking at the pop bumper boards more it indeed is the board to that one bumper that's causing problems. The board looks fine, though. I've attached pics of it. What should I do?

thanks for the pics. the 1st pic the underside of board, it looks like the 2nd pin down from the top has a cracked solder connection. re-flow or re-solder the 1st and 2nd pins and retest. do you have any basic solder equipment? walmart sells a basic set of iron,spare tip, electronics solder, stand, and some solder tools.

Thanks so much for the info. I re-soldered those connections and now the pop bumper works perfectly! Thanks again!
