Hi

I have installed VPX7 aio installer and have been using VP9 without any major issues till today

I've tried running a VP995 table

Doctor Who (Bally)(1992)(oooPLAYER1ooo, UncleWilly, ICPJuggla)[VP99x][MOD Gfx FOM SUNKEN v1.1 Dozer316]

and it didn't start normally , gave the error in the title

I thought the problem is with the table , tried starting VP995 , the same error again

Tried running VP991 , same

Cannot even start any of them

VPX , VP921 , and VP8 runs normally

Any ideas on what may have gone wrong ?

Thanks

Are all of your scripts in the Scripts folder?
Make sure to keep all of your scripts only in the script folder.
If you have any extra scripts in your table folder, these will conflict with the ones in Scripts folder, so delete those out of table folder.
You don't want any scripts wandering around outside of the scripts folder.

I have all my scripts in the scripts folder , I checked and don't have any scripts in the said table folder

The thing is that at the moment , I can't even run the VP995.exe file

nor I can start a VP9 table by double clicking on it

VP9 doesn't even boot up , the screen appears for a second and this error comes up

It seems as if like trying to run that table messed up my VP9 somehow

Where does VP9 save its config file ?

Try running the AIO Installer again.
Find here..

I cannot read Japanese, so I cannot tell what error you have.

I think it's this generic error

Is it possible that opening a table messes up / modifies VP executable so it doesn't work anymore ?

I don't think that is possible.
Try downloading just the VP9.exe here and try it.

I downloaded it , overwrote the old .exe , but sadly the error persists :(

How about the possibility of somehow registry entry for VP9 is broken/changed ?

Could deleting the vpreg.stg file help ?

Thanks

Are you sure you don't have any open windows with VP running?
Have you tried rebooting?

Yes , I rebooted several times , checked the task manager to make sure no other instances are running , nope

That is strange.
And running the AIO Installer again didn't help you either?

I would do a complete reinstall.
I can't think of any obvious reason why this would happen.
Did you Install any programs recently?
Updated anything?
Maybe AntiVirus decided to start blocking something?

I'm running the AIO installer atm

Haven't installed any software , nor did any update , I only have Windows Defender and haven't changed any settings or anything

Have played VP995 (Bad Cats and Champion Pub) this morning without any issue

Re-installed from VPX7 AIO installer but still the same issue

VP8
VP921
VP9 physmod
VPX6
VPX7

start and run fine

VP991 and VP995 give error and don't even boot up to VP main screen

This is probably one of the strangest issues I've encountered for a long time

What the strangest part is that trying to run a table caused it

Check Defender exclusions again... anything windows updates can reset stuff. For years I have problems with my printer drivers after a windows update. I mean, every single time.

Very strange!!
Which table caused this?
Send me a link to it.

Only other thing that I can think of is maybe you clicked something in Video Options for VP9.95?
But hard to check if the editor won't even open for you.
I was going to say open editor and click preferences, and click Video Options, and see if anything is checkmarked that wasn't before.
Or maybe set Max Texture to anything but Unlimited.

Thanks pals

Unfortunately , even after disabling Windows Defender completely , the issue is still there

As you said I can't even get to the menu as it doesn't even start :(

The table was

Doctor Who (Bally)(1992)(oooPLAYER1ooo, UncleWilly, ICPJuggla)[VP99x][MOD Gfx FOM SUNKEN v1.1 Dozer316]

It's from (VP99x Pinmame Tables - Mods&Hacks) folder , got it from the latest VP set from ''The End is Coming'' thread

Is there any way to delete/reset VP settings without running it ?

I know VPM saves its settings in its cfg folder but I couldn't find such file/folder for VP9

I just tried both tables that came in the zip, and they both worked for me. They are both cabinet versions.
Did you check your exclusions in windows defender?
Not sure if just shutting it off unblocks it.

I am sure there is something in your computers registry that can be changed, but I have no experience with that.
Weisshund over at VPForums knows about registry settings and such.

Thanks , I also posted the thread to VPForums, too

Hope I can find a solution

While most tables on VPX are much taxing on my old i3 laptop , VP9 with all settings maxed ran great and was my main means of enjoying pinball

I even recently got a used big screen tv just for that :(

Not sure if this will help, but try right clicking on the VP9.exe and click Properties, and then try running as Administrator.
Doubt this will help, as this seems to be an uncommon problem, but worth a try.

I tried running it as admin , trying different compatibility mods , made no difference :(

Do you see an Uninstall.exe in your Visual Pinball folder?
Maybe try running that to see if it fully uninstalls everything (And possibly deletes bad registry setting?), and then try the AIO Installer again. (I have never ran this Uninstall.exe, so I am not sure what it uninstalls!! but worth a try!!)

I ''finally'' got to solve the issue ! :)

Took the dive and entered the Windows registry , found the VP registry entries in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Visual Pinball
and after some examination I found out that VP9 values were stored in DX9 subfolder in main VP folder

I took a backup of VP folder in the registry as a .reg file in case I mess it up even more , and then deleted only the the DX9 subfolder

I closed regedit , ran 991 and 995 , and voila , they are up running again , with all settings resetted

It seems re-installing doesn't delete the registry entries , that's why it didn't help

And , how did just 'starting' a table messed up VP99 registry entries so bad that it wouldn't even boot up anymore is beyond me , but , oh well

Thanks for all your kindness and help , my friend

Chilling up with some good old pinball and a cold beer in the evening after work is one of the few things that keeps me sane in these dark times , so I'm more than grateful to have it back running again

Best regards and have a nice one : )
