vpinmame won't work

I've been trying to play the apollo 13 pinball rom, I downloaded it, installed all the files to the roms folder, but when I go to play the rom, I get the following message.

Machine terminated before initialized, check the ROM path or ROM file.

What could be going wrong or what am I doing wrong? Also the site I downloaded the emulator from no longer has working pictures so I couldn't look at them to see how things should be like.

Where did you download the emulator from? Do you have the URL?

The ROM.zip file for any VPinMame/Visual Pinball table should never be unzipped. If you unzipped the ROM to the VPinMame\Roms folder, then delete those files and put the ROM.zip file for Apollo13 in the folder, and keep it Zipped.

Also, go to the folder containing the VPinMame Setup.exe and open it. A menu appears. Click the Setup paths button and make sure the ROMs window shows the correct path on your hard drive to the Roms folder (where you put the Apollo13.zip ROM file).

If the path is wrong, then click the button to the right of the ROMs window and choose the correct Roms folder from the directory menu that appears, then click O.K.

Are there any other error messages when you open Visual Pinball or try to start a table?

I got it to load, but I'm having a lot of trouble with the keyboard controls. I can add credits and go into the service menu but that's about it. I'm trying to load the Apollo 13 pinball rom and during the machine start up, it says 13 balls missing. All I'm seeing is just the pinball machine display and not the table itself. What's going on?

I'm not sure if this will work (post here if it does or doesn't work), but try downloading the A13.zip file from this thread, then Unzip it to the Tables folder.
Then try the table.

There wasn't a tables directory in my folder and I created one, downloaded the file and put it there but no luck. I'm using the latest version of PinMAME.

If you had no Tables folder, then did you use a Visual Pinball Full Installer program, or The VIP Install kit found on the Pinball Nirvana front page (The "New to Visual Pinball" banner)? This is necessary to create the folders and to register the folder paths on your hard drive to the system so that Visual Pinball can work correctly.

That's why I asked for the URL for the emulator site download page that you used, to make sure it was still current and/or not corrupted by malware. The current legitimate sites for downloading the Visual Pinball emulator are for the most part up to date with pictures still showing. You can download Visual Pinball, VPinMame or the complete VIP kit from here at pinballnirvana, or the complete install from www.vpforums.org (free membership required).

I use VPinMAME Installation Program version 1.42 or trying to use it. The Visual PinMAME version 2.3 is currently installed on my pc. I downloaded the binary from here: http://pinmame.retrogames.com/

OK I downloaded VBS Version 8.1 and I get the error messages when trying to play the table:

Can't open core.vbs
Unable to open A13.vbs Ensure that it is in the same folder as the table
Can't load vPinMAME. Variable is undefined
VPinMAME ver 01000100 required
A13.VBS ver 3.1 or higher required
Line: 65 Variable is undefined: 'vpmCreateEvents'
Line: 23 Variable is undefined: 'Controller'

It opens up the Apollo 13 Sega Script.

What's going on here?

Whoah there. Do you see a table playfield when you start the game, or just the DMD (the scoreboard)?

There are five separate programs and files (six for Apollo 13) you need to download and/or install:

(1)The Visual Pinball Full Install
Download and install.

(2)The VPinMame add-on (for Visual Pinball)
After installing Visual Pinball, there will be a folder for it created in the (Usually) C:\Program Files\Visual Pinball folder. You can create a folder for VPinMame anywhere, but I like to keep the VPinMame folder in the Visual Pinball folder.
So create a vpinmame folder where you want it to keep the ROM.zip files.
Then download and/or Unzip the VPinMame download to this new vpinmame folder.
Then go to it and run the Setup.exe. If you already have VPinMame installed, then make sure the Setup paths is correct for the location of the vpinmame\Roms folder, in the same place as it is on the hard drive.

(3)Download and Unzip the .vbs files to the (usually) C:\Program Files\Visual Pinball\Tables folder that was created automatically when you installed the Visual Pinball program..

(4)Download and unzip a Table.VPT file (for VisualPinballTable
file) to the Visual Pinball\Tables folder. There is an Apollo13.vpt download for this game.

(5)Download the specific ROM.zip file for the Apollo13.vpt version. You got that part.
In case you need a ROM, you can get them at www.ipdb.org by searching for the pinball machine by name, then in the results download the PINMAME Rom(s) for the game.
If you encounter a ROM error message when trying to play the table, look at the message to get the correct name of the ROM needed to play, then get it at ipdb.org
Different table.vpt versions of the same pinball machine might use a different NameOfRom.zip.

(6)Unzip the A13.zip file to the Visual Pinball\Tables folder.

And you can install everything but the table, ROM and special A13 file by using the VIP from the front page of pinballnirvana or the complete install from www.vpforums.org ..see "Essential Files.
