I got VPX 10.8 pre release from github are you the developer ? I was using 10.7 but some games I downloaded said I need 10.8. After opening a game in 10.8 some games will no longer run in 10.7 so I am just letting you know maybe someone has already brought up this subject on your GitHub page, but just letting you know. 10.8 works fine for me I did get a few times duplicate script error and C++ Runtime error followed by crash but after restarting program all working ok again.

you cant have 2 folders in the same location with the same name.
change the new folder name a little.
did you keep both VPX 10.7 and 10.8 or move everything to 10.8?

Yes I had in two folders I had one folder named Visual Pinball 10.8 and one folder named Visual Pinball 10.72, but after opening a game in 10.8 then trying to open in 10.7 it would have a popup saying 10.8 is required. I can ignore it and just revert back to 10.7 but some games then have no texture. Reverting backwards in the software does this and makes textures all go blank. (see screenshots) So once you upgrade to higher version you can not downgrade but it is ok because 10.8 is working fine. I just wanted to let the software creator know that the program does this.

me>>>>>Im still not clear....
1. after you installed vpx10.8 version, you tried to open tables in the vpx10.72 tables folder then got an error?
then you had to move all your 10.72 stuff to 10.8?
2. did you install into C/local or program files?
3. when you copy/pasted the new 10.8 installer into the new folder in the same location as 10.72 did you rename the new folder vpx10.8 before you installed the new 10.8 installer online?
hope i was clear....
you should be able to keep both VPX 10.72 and 10.8 folders as long as you changed the name of the folders.
look like the new VPX10.8 overwrote the old 10.72 files.

1 Yes have both installed but separate folders (everyone) gets the error if they save the game in VPX 10.8 then try to run the game in a downgraded VPX 10.7

2. I use the D drive because I only keep my operating system on C drive. It makes system run faster if I don't have clutter on my operating system drive. Many software creates hidden files on your operating system drive usually under user and AppData I do a lot of software tests so this has been the best way for me to run the system. Some people just add a partition but that is limiting and slicing your HDD.

3. The file/ game is fine it is just broken when I open game in anything else but 10.8

oO I am surprised that no one ever had this error LOL It is similar to trying to play Playstation 2 games on a Playstation 5 the games are not backwards compatible 10.8 will run fine and work with all other version games 10.7 - 10.6 - 10.5 - 10.4 - 10.3 . You only get the error if you save a game in 10.8 then downgrade to any other version.

Pinhead1 thanks for trying to help it's not a problem as there is no need for anyone to downgrade versions everything works ok on 10.8

ok, thanks for the reply....

on the speed of your system.....it has been recommended that you turn of your anti-virus, windows defender and firewall while playing PB off line then turn back on when done.

@pinhead1 You can't make any changes to VPX 10.72 what changes like editing the game or changes to the software ? Sometimes when you install Visual Pinball if you go to Preferences and click Editor Ui options you can disable the 4th line that reads "start VP to directly play table" so when you open the game you can make changes or fix anything. Visual Pinball should play ok on your system send a picture of what changes you can't do.

are you talkin' about preferences in the VPX 10.73 desktop launcher?

dont recall the tables doing the auto start....i think i had to hit play.
how does disable autoplay make a difference?
i'll start it up and get a look....
ill get back to you...thanks.

pinhead1 Ok I did not know what changes you meant. If you check that checkbox it opens table select as soon as you start your VPX launcher so I thought this was preventing you from editing or making changes. I could be wrong but it is checked by default in a new installation. If your GFX card lags on some games you can also try lowering resolution if you click preferences - video graphics options Ok ttyl.

i have some more work to do if i want to try to get the 560 to work with the VPX 10.73 launcher.
i have an intel i5 4th gen (2014) that might be a better choice.
if i can't get the 560 to work with the VPX launcher in my current PB PC i might move over to the Intel i5.
i won't know until i try.
thanks,....carry on....

VP9xx
i can make changes in VP9xx desktop launchers and they stick.
VP9xx plays ok.
VPX 10.72 installer and 10.73 desktop launcher..
tables load and play....i can get into the game play settings in the VPX launcher anytime.
the problem is the game play settings in the VPX 10.73 desktop launcher seem to be stuck on the default settings out of the DL.
i can change it in the box but seems to be stuck....no noticeable change to performance
still learning VPX....so i experimented with the VPX 10.73.
EX: in VP9 the flipper settings were 1-5 for strength and 0.075 and up for swing speed, oblique for how the ball
launches off the flipper and other settings for elasticity etc....
the DEV team did VPX completely different.
the flipper settings might be 3500 out of the DL.
i experimented by changing it to 4000 and 5000 close back to desktop then restart to see what happens.
didn't see any noticeable changes.
**maybe i am doing something wrong.....
the DEV team did not post a user guide in tutorials for the VPX launcher so i am flying blind with no instructions.
**can someone with experience with the VPX 10.73 launcher give me some basic instructions on how to use it before i spend more time chasing this down?
maybe you might have a file or PDF i can DL???
hope i was clear.......

that's the problem with my VPX.
some suggested the GTX560 is too old and outdated.
maybe the FX processor......maybe, i dunno.
the PC and GFX card is fresh out of the box from last year.
been sitting in the box for 12yrs since 2013.
anymore suggestions from anybody?

pinhead1 Oh ok I understand I don't know if it helps you but have you tried right clicking on program and running it as admin, make your changes then save the game. Hope it works its the only thing I can think of that would help.

i'm goin' round and round with the idea that it is the processor(12yrs old) and the card because VP9xx works ok.
i might move over to the intel i5 if i cant get it to work.
i dunno, the i5 is 10yrs old
won't know until i chase this down.

ok, can you tell me how to run as "admin" and how to get back if it doesn't work and creates more problems?
right click where?

i'll get another look at my PB and try the VPX 10.73 launcher again.
some of the VPX tables out of the DL have a flipper speed of 3500.
what is max flipper speed in VPX?
what flipper settings do the full cabbers recommend for a full FS screen?

pinhead1 Just right click on your VPX icon and the menu should say Open and Second option should be (Run as Admin) that's it. It shouldn't make any more problems for you. When you run an application as admin it gives you full control of the application as well as saving changes and permissions. If a program doesn't have permissions that could be why it doesn't save your settings. :-) Just never use (Run as Admin) on any sketchy software but VPX is fine I use 5 Antivirus programs that read even internal code.
run as Admin.jpg

ok, i started up my PB PC, right clicked on the VPX icon on desktop for "run as admin".
i spent maybe 30 min on it trying different flipper strengths.
i used VPX Captain fantastic V4 to test for the "run as admin" in the icon to see if the changes would stick.
the settings seem to stick in the VPX physics for the flippers.
the default flippers strength was 3600.
again i bumped it up to 4000 then 5000.
didn't seem to be any change...the lower left and right flippers was still slow sending the ball back to the top at the 5000 setting for flippers
in VPX 10.73 desktop launcher.
i'll try again later...

my PC system info is:
win7 home
premium 2009
AMD FX(tm) 8350 8core 4ghz
RAM 16GB i think 1600 Ram
64bit
GTX560 GFX card

could the forum move threads 7-22 to VPX resources & tutorials to the thread "VPX 7.3 (stand alone exec)" on page 1.
thanks

no xeno, i don't think it is the10.73 that is the problem.
i think i am having PC problems in the VPX 10.73 launcher program.
i think it would be better in the thread i asked for thanks.

So you don't think it is a 10.73 problem, but you want me to move your posts to the 10.73 topic?
I think the posts are fine right here in the VP Help section.
It covers the first post about VPX8 beta problems, and your VPX7.3 problems.

i want you to move it because that is the launcher program i am using for now until i get it sorted out.
been playin' VP9....after a few years i decided to chase the VPX problem down.
i don't think it's the program because i didn't see anybody else complaining about 10.73.
my VPX works but having some trouble making changes in the physics for flippers.
when i get it worked out i will upgrade to 10.8 when it's ready and maybe FP.
i might need to move over to my i5 PC and see what happens.
if you want to leave it here ,,ok....

Xeno....i don't recall any problems with the 10.72 allinone installer or 10.73 desktop launcher.
i have a alot of later updated VP9 in the allinone that didn't work in my old 3click installer.
got an error in the 3 click telling me to use the allinone because of updates to the later VP9 tables.
the allinone installer and the VPX10.73 seem to be working ok.
has there been any problems reported with the allinone or the 10.73 launcher?
