Right now, I look like a zombie

I have had an interesting last 12 months
started Sept last year, I got an infection. an aggressive little bug
the only way to remove it was to remove the infected skin and muscle
two weeks to clean up the infection, then plastic surgery, then a couple of months to heal

got back to work, three months later, something happened to my foot and my big toe had to be amputated

this is my leg mostly healed
you are seeing untouched foot, skin flap, skin graft, then normal leg

the infection has gone, but it really screwed with my body

Necrotizing Fasciitis
it is quite rare, only 400 people get it in Australia per year
instant 25% mortality rate
most die within one week, I waited 2

So I consider myself to be the luckiest guy around

a scratch on my ankle let in the virus

my ankle got sore, but i thought i had just twisted it
but then it got so sore i could hardly walk
i took a day off work, onevday turned to five, then i went to the doctor
doctor put me on antibiotics, but two days later my leg started going black and oozing orange puss
THEN i went to the emergency room, straight in, no waiting
3 hours later i am in surgery getting my skin cut off
it took two weeks for them to cut out the infected tissue
then ten weeks of plastic surgery to replace the skin

no, just had to close until the wound healed
flour acts like sand, and would have gotten into any open wound and caused more problems
