The headaches of the problem children on the forum were getting to be old. The forum was up for 7 years!

btw i know i've addressed this before, but this part just kills me. i mean for sure i understand and am sympathetic to what AJ's woes were and why he let things slip. but dude, first of all- welcome to the internet. not to mention, it was us staff people who were the guys on the front line busting it to iron these issues out. you were like the ghost of ghosts, even to the staff.

not to mention you did take donations for years. however much that did or didn't bring in, IMO that doesn't sit very well alongside letting the server go to seed.

last thing, the idea that it was just 'your site' and 'your baby' comes off as pretty egotistical when in fact there were loads of people through the years who did all kinds of coding, graphics and support for the project and site.

whatever. i do think you're a good dude, but VPF was a lot more than just about you... in my semi-respectful opinion.

Paul's regime was to be on a commercial footing rather than the almost mayhem and banter of the original site. If that's his thing well, that's up to him. The piper usually plays the tune .... but I, like many others, did not like it

I will give the Empire its due as being the best table repository on the net. Any time I've dipped back into VP I was able to download anything I needed from there at no... direct cost, other than a couple of ads. Just wish the place didn't seem so much like that creepy Lucas film THX-1138. Oh, no! They're shocking Shocky!

I was kind of surprised he was let back in, based on prior posts I've read here. I just didn't see it happening. But I liken vpf as the "Wal Mart of VP". My place would be like the old "Mom and Pop Store", you see things that are different. Things you haven't seen before.

As for the ShockStar, he is just simply way out of his comfort zone and depth of knowledge. VP development has gone several notches above and beyond any simple scripted flipper fixes or that of that ilk.

Sounds about right. Used to like those places as I was growing up. I could get into those places because I was there to service the dusty Fireball machine in the corner. I remember one time I went to a bar in Palatine Ill just 3 minutes from my house, this was my last stop of the day. Then I got home and turned on the tv, and found out there was a stabbing and murder literally just after I left.

Don't get me wrong about what I said before, I'm glad Shockman got back in, I just didn't see it happening. My guess is Paul needs more "participating members". So many people join, and never do anything, just look at the stats.

i'd say that's pretty much how it's always been. at VPF.COM we hit milestones like "100,000th user registered, HOORAY!" and yet there'd still only be about three dozen posting users at any one time and a fairly small group of developers. most accts were just there to DL.

at least at paul's place it looks like a lot of folks are building cabs, which would tend to make them more active and contributing users, no?

That's about the extent of it there too, proportionate at my site also.

There are a lot of cab builders there, but most don't say anything unless they have a problem. But this does help in this respect. Of course this is Paul's captured audience too. Do you want this? Well check out this site's version of it.

I have to defend Wal Mart. They are just about the only national chain out there that still sells the foods that my old man ate drank and smoked over 40 years ago.
But That is Exactly why I shop there. Can't find that stuff anywhere else.

maybe it's because ppl have gotten used to that practice from modern news publications and blogs. in the past you would moreso have to go to a forums or chat to talk about issues. not so much today.

He doesn't need me. He has always said he would let me back sooner or later.

The current devs. are doing a great job. Starting with porting to DX9, to the new physics, to VP10 development. They are open to suggestions and requests, and seem eager in that respect.

Well I'm glad to see you made it back in there, Shocky! As our spy in the Evil Empire, can you tell us if the nudge physics in VP10 will be more like "shaking a table" as it was in VP8, or "moving the pointer on a Ouija board" like in VP9?
Man, I'll bet the Evil Empire is just giving away North Korea flags to its members. Brothers in arms and such.

Well the nudge is mostly like it was in VP8. directions are correct, the recoil is there, and you can choose the power. The backdrop still shakes too though. I have not tried but a few of the VPX tables, and don't read most of the threads. I don't post much either. I mostly point out what I don't like about VPX there. There is plenty of others wearing the rose colored glasses. VP10 though is shaping up very well. It has very nice reflections now.

What's this about the North Korea flags? I didn't get one.

I'm guessing what Noah meant was that he wouldn't let people down by disappearing overnight... and he has kept that promise. But I think a ban-happy VP site that's as much fun to visit as a doctor's office counts as letting us down. Oh, well... I guess the five people that agree with that are over here now, so it all worked out for the best.

I can't blame Noah for everything. The clientele at the .org is less interested in socializing, as evidenced by the mostly low View Counts at the Big Bang Bar.

It can't be helped that the majority of users there are exclusively leachers.
And we have the same issue. The 300 Bots looking at archive pages.
