Yes, we all know that song I hope, yet one time I was lighted up by a different Pogues' Xmas tune (on the radio), and I've been struggling to figure out WOT it might have been for the past ~25yrs since I originally heard it!

What might it have been...?!

I remember in 2020 where one of our top radio stations refused to play the original lyrics, because they might have offended, pathetic world we are in nowadays, that meme in political nonsense sums it up.
The slightest thing can "offend" some nowadays :/

Kinda reminds me of a couple famous situations in which major singers / performers flipped the script on live TV, refusing to accept the censorship that the network laid down beforehand. Interestingly, all three times involved UK performers. IIRC it was:

Elvis Costello on SNL (Saturday Night Live) starting one song, then quickly seguing to a 'banned' song, I think Radio, Radio maybe. Also, Sinéad O'Connor famously ripping up a picture of the Catholic pope, again on SNL, based on the many long-term abuses of said religion. Lastly, I believe it was... The Who? on the old Ed Sullivan Show, who, instead of going with the network's suggestions, went with the original 'offensive' lyrics of... yeah, whatever song that was.

The only other main hit i can think of that The Pogues had was this one.

I love that tune, but had in mind a Pogues Xmas tune, but not "Fairytale..."

Haha, I guess at end of the day, I'm the only one who ever heard it!

Two songs I listened to this week

Hmm, that seems to be a German band's song (not the Beatles), but honestly, with the latest commonly accessible AI tools, I believe you can now have any known singer / band cover any song in the world in any style of your choosing.

It's gettin' pretty crazy, laddies...

(pardon, but I skipped a few of the most recent songs in interests of finishing this already long-ass post)

TBH I was a big fan of hip-hop around the mid/late 80's to early 90's, and I wish to hell that someone was still making music like that.

To me, that tune above isn't bad or anything, but to me is emblematic of the 'Kanye West' style of droning on lyrics in a monotone way that's (yes) impressive in its elocution (haha, or whatever that word is), but on the whole comes of pretty distant, cynical, and unmelodic to me.

For example, compare to: (eh, sorry for the shite quality)

Where there's more of a creative, playful, intentional energy IMO.

There were a good handful of hip-hop records around that time that shared that energy. Not a huge list, mind you, but enough to tear me away from listening and re-listening to stuff like Led Zep, The Floyd, Genesis which I'd discovered late in my ridiculous, sheltered life. XD

You mentioned Led Zep and that is when I like the rap era when bands were doing rap/rock. There were a few bands like Beastie Boys, Limp Bizkit and also Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin. I just don't listen to new rap or don't even know who the new cool rappers are anymore. I hear about some like XXXTentacion just from social media but did not listen to any of the songs.
