Just 10 minutes to go, for a fine radio show at WAYOfm.org at 9 PM Eastern Daylight Time (-4:00 UTC)

I've done shows like this before and for some reason, inexplicable to me, this kind of show gets more applause than anything else i spew out onto the air. This one is 100% Motown singles from 1971, but with only a modest twist... the tunes are all on the B-side of the 45 single. Which means these songs are (at most) only the 3rd-best tunes off the album. If you're in the biz of selling LPs, you don't put songs #1 and #2 on the same 45 single! If you do that, then nobody buys your album, only the single. You want to reserve the 2nd-best tune for the A-side of a second single.

But for some reason, stringing only B-sides together is really enjoyable. Here's how the playlist ended up:

01-01 The Supremes - This Is The Story
01-02 Edwin Starr - Cloud Nine
01-03 Hugh Masekela & The Union Of South Africa - Shebeen
01-04 Stoney And Meatloaf - Lady Be Mine
01-05 Tom Clay - Baby I Need Your Loving
01-06 R. Dean Taylor - Woman Alive
02-01 Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - Flower Girl
02-02 Gordon Staples & The Motown Strings - Sounds Of The Zodiac
02-03 Kiki Dee - Jimmy
02-04 The Crusaders - Greasy Spoon
02-05 Bobby Darin - Someday We'll Be Together
02-06 Diana Ross & Bill Cosby - Love Story
03-01 Ken Christie & The Sunday People - Listen To Your Soul
03-02 Diana Ross - I'm A Winner
03-03 The Messengers - In The Jungle
03-04 Marvin Gaye - God Is Love
03-05 David Ruffin & Jimmy Ruffin - Steppin' On A Dream
03-06 Sunday Funnies - It's Just A Dream

Looks like a great line up!
Not a better year to start the show! 1971

Every tune here is 1971. Was listening to a boxset of Motown singles and every *other one* was a big hit you still hear on oldies stations today, but found myself really grooving on the in-between songs ... the Not Quite A Hit songs. Can't believe Cloud Nine was shoved off to the B-side!

And if you're brave.... a second radio show starts at 10pm EDT over at WRFZ 106.3.

This week, following the "sleep" theme last week, is about "dreams". But don't fret, not "nightmares" (reserving that theme for late October heh!)

Tunes run from 1946 to 2023, from Japanese punk to Mexican flamenco, from Abba to Weezer, we gots Dylan, Lennon, Orbison, and a guy named (tragically?) Gurf Morlix. One tune is bugging the schnitt outta me: "California Dreaming" covered by Lee Moses. KNOW i've heard the tune before, but only the 1st minute is familiar, which must mean it got used in a movie i watched once. Fantastic re-do of the hit from The Mamas & The Papas, one rare tune where dare i maybe say, the cover is better than the orig?

Catch the show here: (use the black-box player to avoid averts)

Great show!
Could have added this one to "Dreams" show! lol

Very truthy, but used that one in a "fish" show last year! Next one coming up is about "death", but... really don't want to be too somber at it. A bunch of 50s rockabilly tunes are about teen lovers in a car wreck so will have to pick the most light-hearted (!) one out of those. Got a few comedy/novelty songs about ridiculous deaths, but figure i'll need a couple more of those in case you know any, to keep the DeathShow from being too dark!

Was going to say does it have to be car wreck deaths? Or can the Homecoming Queen have a gun? lol
Here is a possible candidate.

ohooo, that's a good one. If i recall it aright, he sings about "when i die/gonna go to the spirit in the sky" Might pair well with, ... there's some Sam Kinnison comedy bits about an invisible man in the sky, which he delivers with the intensity of a former preacher.

Already used the "homecominq queen" tune on an earlier show, but looking for more "weird death" blackomedy tunes!

Oh rabbits... I'm an old man by now (going on 60yo), but I did get a HUGE kick, seeing something kinda funny and also quite wild, the other day... you know, in terms of the above, haha.

\*sigh*
Daggit, tho... my reflexes are just aging like...
bah, let's not even talk about it. *(^!@$!@
