i don't get the keys thing, though. i mean, key definitions have been standard in MAME for ages. which means that i probably don't understand what just changed.

Hi Elton.... of course I'm breathing... not just so active in the forums anymore. But I check these old places out from time to time. Mostly spending my spare time with my son (who's soon four years old). He's already skating... he's going to be a hockey guy like his old man. :D

@Nic: This is the first arcade site (that I know of) that has ability to redefine keys and even use the mouse (SHIFT-F5). All that I've seen have been JAVA-based shit that only allow you to use the arrow buttons... or whatever the site has defined for you.

I mean... playing Asteroids with the arrow buttons (and no ability to change to the traditional 5-button Atari layout) is simply ridiculous.

I could be wrong and there are other good arcade sites... but this is the first one that I've found... and there are a lot of good players... very good high scores over there. Cheers.

How weird! My girlfriend just showed me this site a couple of days ago. The first thing I thought: "Meh. Who wants to play games using the arrow keys?" Now that I know you can reassign buttons, I'm there!

Any high scores yet?

I've done 10 already... with the initials JPE (my new car's license plate intials). Pretty tough competition over there... I thought I was a good Mr.Do's Castle and Bomb Jack player.... until I saw the high scores. Damn.

EDIT: cool, got it working. had to install arcadeOX and update java and flash.

too bad they don't have DSXL emulated, since it would be nice to test drive stuff i might buy for my real unit.

now to find some interesting games to play. joust 2 was worth a look... they didn't have marble madness 2, though. hmm, what else...?


btw, i don't really have the stamina to go for high scores. you might have to be our representative in that, kristian.

I wasn't surprised to see who the Gravitar Champ is.

The site is fun, if you pick games that work well with a keyboard or joystick, but I could not get mouse control. Chrome support is still not there, it broke with 22. I got crashes every time I went full screen (IE 11). I saw the key layout graphics of the keyboard keys but don't know how to change them. The MAME tab key will do that though. I forgot to see if the global MAME settings from the tab/controllers is saved at RU.

It will be nice as a playable preview for games that I might want in Windows MAME.

Mouse: Press SHIFT-F5 ingame.
Redefine keys just like in MAME... i.e press TAB button ingame. Those will be saved to your settings.
If you want to send a high score, open the score mode and press F12 when the score is visible (end of the game).

Has worked perfectly for me... but didn't get it working with Firefox, either... had to use IE.

dang, my friend wanted to play "tapper" the other day, but the site seemed to stop working for me. apparently it was her favorite game from back in china, and i don't have it for my ancient MAME install.

i gotta figure this out before she's over next time. anytime a girl actually wants to play video games with me it's like some kind of special achievement...!

Tapper is a good game that I played a lot when it came out. You should download it for MAME. The thing about updating MAME is that you usually have to update some roms and you don't know if you found an updated rom until you download it and audit or try to run it.

yea, as i've mentioned before, i have an ancient collection circa MAME 067. everything runs nice and smoothly on this mid-range laptop, and AFAIK there's nothing i'm particularly interested in that released at a later date.

i played a few games on the browser site above and still couldn't find anything that would make it worth my while to mess with the new MAME versions. weird, huh? i mean, i figure there must be some real gems (for console games too) but i just can't seem to figure what they might be.

i guess i'll just try the latest MAME and the matching tapper game if i can't figure out the problem. as a fan of one-stop shopping and anti-bloat, that solution nevertheless irritates me.

the only problem i know of is that the original control was a lever to fill the beer. a gamepad button produces a weird situation of sometimes only needing one press, but other times two. or maybe you just need to hold the button long enough.... i'm not sure. i was a little toasty by that point. :D
