A Great MAME ROMS Site

I got that once, so I logged out thinking it was due to a site update.
I logged back in immediately and haven't seen the issue since.

Man, would you look what I found... Nintendo emus for the Ipod!

PodMame.JPG

This is the best use of an emulator since the first Mame emu for the PC! The games fit the format great, although the touch-controls make more complex games like Mario Kart a little tough. But Mario RPG is fun as hell to play and, the best part is, no jailbreaking necessary! The emus I'm using are GBA4Ios and MeSNEmu. Get to googlin' and impress your friends!

before my smartphone got stolen i was thinking about getting a gamepad for it.

seems a little like feeding an elephant with a ten-story peanut, but then if the shoe fits...

LOL! The problem is getting the shoe to fit! I saw this powershell Logitech came up with.

powershell-controller-battery-images.png

Yep, pretty nifty. The problem is that they stopped making them with the Iphone 5 and we're on... 10? 15? So, yeah, I've been looking at one of those things you posted. Problem is, will it be worth it? I've noticed that I seem to get a lot more enjoyment getting an emu up and running than I do actually playing it! At the same time... Nintendo games were made for smart phones! And yet the company dicks around by releasing that Miitomo crap, while they're sitting on a goldmine. Actually, that sort of makes sense from Nintendo's weird yet greedy view of the world. Hey, remember those idiotic mini-discs you put the Gamecube games on so no one could pirate them, Nintendo? I've spent the last week downloading copies. Good job!

as i understand it, most of the classic manufacturers from our misbegotten youth have not logistically or officially existed for a long time. por ejemplo-- "atari" was just in yesterday's news for going after an indie developer who had riffed upon "tempest."

even though it was muvvle-fluffing jeff minter's baby... as in, atari is going after jeff fluffingminter for evolving his code.

JEFF ... FLUFFING ... MINTER.

i mean, you want to talk about a humorless collection of ill-fitting suit paraders?

Believe it or not, Atari is still a "real" company, that's owned by... Activision, I think? That's pretty weird right there! The company that created video games in the '70s was bought by the company that made Atari 2600 games in the 70s! At least Atari's more real than, say, Bally/Midway. I downloaded a Gamecube ROM of Midway's greatest arcade hits... put out about two decades after that company breathed its last.
Atari is also putting out brand-new games! By "brand-new", I mean that same collection of crap from the 70s that they've been grinding out for years. But now it's on Steam for $16.99! I've got it on my watch-list. When that fucker dumps down to $4.99, I'm gonna spring!
EDIT: I decided to find out who, indeed, owns Atari and it is not Activision (who's owned by Blizzard). Atari was bought by Infogrames and the Wikipedia Entry makes for a fine Greek Tragedy. And what a happy ending! On June 22, 2014, Atari announced a new corporate strategy that would include a focus on "new audiences", specifically "LGBT, social casinos, real-money gambling, and YouTube." Can anyone tell me what that even means? It sounds like someone threw a bunch of words into the air! So... a Youtube gambling video game for... trannies?
EDITEDIT: I visited the Atari website and what a disappointment! Not a single transgender-themed game! Just a lot of pretty nifty browser editions of old favorites. I kinda liked playing their Asteroids!

Thought I'd chime in about my emulation project on Android, I was new to Android before buying a Nvidia Android Shield TV box last November.
Nvidia Shield

I've been using a torrent site for roms that you must register to use, I think I heard about it years ago from someone here at Pinball Nirvana:
http://www.pleasuredome.org.uk/

I was able to move all of the roms from the computer to the SATV and now have 18 various android emulators (including MAME) and over 7,000 games.

@bill,
i feel like you're getting closer to the truth.

the ownership of atari is one of the craziest stories you might wish for.

@jon,
you're still missing a few, dude!

Well, yeah, Android... that's easy, what with it being all "user-friendly" and such. :pistoles: Try doing it on an Ipod, which is already designed to hate you even before you force it to do something it doesn't want to do. Yep, it's like going on a prom date with your cousin. What? So which one's your favorite right now, Jon? I gotta admit, I'm spending a lot of time with the Gamecube. Mario Kart Double Dash, Paper Mario 1.000-Year-Door... some of these games make the Wii look like crap.

what consistently blows my socks off in the console / arcade / etc tribute scene is stuff like this--

the way these (typically middle-aged) fanboys become TOTALLY obsessed about recapturing their childhoods to the extent of buying up every last fluffing cartridge and add-on for said nostalgiac item of choice. (atari, coleco, VIC-20, intellivision, she no matter)

i mean holy excrement, duderinos-- i LOVE the old consoles and their games, and have supported it to an extent financially possible for me (like blue sky rangers, i.e. the original intellivision crew), but...

http://intellivisionrevolution.com/

yes... sure... here's my fluffing US$55 for a half-decent new game made for a console that's only around 35 years old.

BUT NO... I GOTTA HAVE THAT NEW CARTRIDGE, DUDE!

yo billington, you naive and highly-susceptible younger dude-- do you think *I* could get in to said racket in such a way? i mean i'm already kind of an idiot, and plus it sounds pretty sweet! :D

Well... it's hard to deny their dedication... their complete and utterly batshit dedication. Yeah, preach it, brother! That one guy's bitching about the Intellivision controller. You know, there have been significant advancements in the field since then. I don't know... just because you're a neat and very-organized hoarder doesn't really negate the "hoarder" part.

btw, for the half-dozen lurke... folks who keep tuning in for the "bill and nic show," here's a nice little gaming bone for you:

a wonderful little semi rogue-like / semi-puzzler you can play in browser or on your tablet, whatever. the enchanted cave 2:

dun say i never did nothin' for you, you pitiful slackers...!

LOL! I like our show! I think it's the best "non-superhero" "non-NCIS" show available to the masses! We are missing a member of the Fantastic (4-1), though. Come back, arne! We're flatlining in the ratings without you!
That link actually took me to a whole mess'o'games, so I'm not sure which one you were pointing out. And, it doesn't matter because I found web-based KR Frontiers! So I'll be playing that, despite the fact I play it every day on my Ipod,

yeah, what's been going on with the "arne and bill" show, anyway?

alright, i fixed the link above.

one of these days i'll have to figure out what to do about my tablet. it's probably about time for the 4th kingdom rush to be coming out, eh?

...

back to MAME-- i tried setting up one of the console systems (intellivision), and it went fairly well. this one-stop-shopping thing is pretty nice, i must say. the main thing you must take care of correctly is to drop the bios / system file "intv.zip" in to the MAME ROMs folder, then create a subfolder named "intv" inside, and -then- drop your intellivision ROMs in to that new subfolder. and of course they have to be named to MAME's exacting standars.

this should work the same way for all the other consoles.

NOTE: clearmamepro does *not* seem to recognise the console subfolders. it will move them in to its own 'to be deleted' folder, given the chance. so before you do a CMP scan, be sure to temporarily move your console ROM subfolders out of the MAME ROMs folder.

one thing that's a bit of a bummer is that MAME has very exacting expectations of its ROMs. so for example, a cool stash of intellivision originals, updates and remakes like this will probably have to be played in dedicated intellivision emulators and not MAME.

i was looking forward to checking some of these out... :/

- MS NIGHT STALKER: an updated version of the original Night Stalker game. Enhancements include faster game play, 9 mazes to play, randomness of play, and more.

so at this point i'm just kind of resting. i decided to completely go through MAME's master list of games, updating all my older versions, and grabbing just about anything i hadn't tried before.

this was made a lot more interesting by installing a history.dat file, which lets you read about the trivia and backstory of a game while you've got it running. i also updated my cheat.dat file, which lets you screw around with games in fun fashion. the 'warp speed' key (i.e. insert) is also a blast to use, since you can make time fly and see things you'd normally have to wait around for. i accidentally discovered a bug in "berzerk" by doing that. :)

some of the game trivia is pretty fascinating. for example, it turns out there was a sequel to defender's sequel of stargate, made in 1991. i doubt many people have heard of it ("strikeforce"), but it does work in MAME and is a pretty interesting leap forward.

anyway, i made it halfway through the master list before crashing. hopefully i can find motivation to continue, because i've indeed discovered a lot of interesting, little-known games.

i was also able to successfully set up more consoles. it's a little tricky, but works like it did for the intellivision, above.

that brings me to a pretty hilarious post i just bumped in to-- "the 10 worst consoles of all time!"

this guy built a pretty unique and bitchin cabinet for his son. at least, i hadn't quite seen anything like that before.

bonus points for being something that a wife would probably accept a lot more easily than the bigger, gaudier cabs. the console is pretty tasteful and artistic in a star wars sense, and can even be placed in the nearest closet if necessary.

i think the buttons lit up before he suffered some kind of short or something (3rd pic). i wish i could have seen what that looked like.
