Can't go back playing the MAME versions after this...absolutely cool..!!

PS: Does anyone have the full working romset for AAE?

ifI can figure it out yeah it looks nice, but I dont think my old p3 computer can handle the graphics I cant even run FP at all.

Yeah...it requires a modern machine and video card... but why don't you upgrade your machine to modern specs... hardware is very cheap these days...??

Even the new VPM tables get a new life when you have a decent machine... Scapino's Johnny Mnemonic in full speed is a treat.

funny, as many flavors of MAME have forked off through the years, i would have thought one of them would have provided similar options as this emu provides. maybe not. *shrug*

on the vector front, there was that personal system sold in the early 80's that attempted to re-create the games from that period, as well as create some new ones. you know, that small unit that the user would interchange colored plastic overlays on? that represents the last lingering curiosity i have about vector emus. or did the emu for that get bundled into MAME at some point? i forget.

Well I'm currently unemployed so money goes first to bills actually all of it goes to bills as UC pays 1/2 of what you were earning when you worked. and intel graphics can't be upgraded so I'd have to buy a new computer, not feasible at the current time, though.

if you're in eastern PA, go dumpster diving and/or trash day cruising, particularly at the ends of college semesters when some students are just tossing almost everything they have so they can travel light.

i've picked up 21" CRT's, PC's P4 and faster, laser printers, etc. sometimes the stuff requires a little work, but it's usually light in nature. especially with the internet as a resource, which will help you solve just about any issue. at penn, the kids will throw away laptops on a regular basis.

@Nic: That "personal system" was Vectrex... of course I owned that... it was an amazing system back then... and has become a real cult console these days. I wish I still had it.

I never forget the feeling when I bought it... it was just unreal... I was 12 or so... my old man made me to wash his car, mow the lawn... and made me earn every single penny for the Vectrex. That was a busy summer...!! :D

The only thing was missing was the Atari licence... the games were mostly Cinematronics vector games which are cool... but can never be compared to Battlezone, Gravitar, Star Wars or Tempest. Imagine this system with Atari licence... that would have been too much... Atari's home console systems left a lot to be desired.

This emulator runs in any even remotely modern machine... and $3000... wtf are you talking about... in Europe we can buy an excellent turbocharged modern gfx card for a lousy 100€... a card that runs most new games and software with ease.

I would think any working adult (save the people who are flipping burgers in the Ronald McDonalds make that much in half a day). But hey... I guess it's the recession time, eh?

any way to force it to work with a laptop with a piece of s&*! graphics card which can not be replaced! I have this running on my system at home and it runs great! I just want to have it on my laptop as well but it errors out whenever I try to run it (ext framebuffer object required). Graphics are on-board built in... any thoughts? I'm running mame and vpinmame with no problems on it.

Laptops usually have those integrated POS video cards... it doesn't matter what the cpu power is because most modern games and software utilize the card...!!

The only possibility to get it running is to buy an external, modern video card. I didn't understand why my modern powerful machine didn't run any games properly until I bought a decent card... the difference is just amazing...!!

I got the Infogames/ Atari 1 and 2. Talk about tough games. I mostly play my favorites which are Asteroids, Centipede and Breakout. or is it Super Breakout.
Asteroids on my 19" crt seems too small a playing area with the background meteors and an extra inch all the way around. I would like to make it fullscreen like JP's tables LOL, with very little margin where the ships disappear and reappear. I had one hell of a record on the original standup machine. I had 15 ships lined up and played it continuously for five hours straight. Just leaving a couple of slow moving small asteroids and battling the little enemy ship for 1000 points. Ten kills and an extra ship goes up. That was fun. OF course if you ever played pong, then the paddle sound carries over into Breakout. Though I like the version,(But I cant remember the name) where the paddle doubles in size, electrically charged so you can catch it and then release it elsewhere and had tons of levels like maybe 25 or more!! The Infogames Breakout is somewhat dated in options.

I should have waited to buy my pinball controller and got the Wizard. Instead I spent the 200 for the Xarcade with the trackball in the middle and two player joysticks. I wonder if that could be converted with built in nudging for vp. I works great for the Infogames but takes up way too much space on my computer desk. My main disappointment to the side placement for the flipper buttons is an 1-1/2" overlap of the main surface of the Xarcade that hides the flippers from easy access. But thats a whole nother thread!!!.

Wow! why so angry? Go re-read my post..I said $1,000 TO $3,000 for a new system...not $3,000 only!!

And why the personal attack on my financial or job situation. As a matter-of-fact I HAVE recently lost my job due to the economy. Thanks for caring.

Again, all I originally said was that the program runs like a slug on my system. You reacted like I personally insulted you. Did you program this software? Are you in charge of it's marketing department?

I can't even get this program to start. I click on the AAE Icon, but get
an error message that the program failed to initialize. My computer must
be too old to run AAE. Not a big problem because I can always play Mame and VP.

@George: You go take a chill pill... and grow a thicker skin... I collected all the roms, packed the whole thing together and shared it... and the only "thanks" was you complaining that your system is crappy...!!

Well it's not my fault... and I didn't make fun of your economical situation... how the hell I should have known what it is anyway... your price estimate on system upgrade was just ridiculous. $3000... please... if the price is an issue you can get a superb complete modern machine for $500 if you put it together yourself... a system with top performance... and decent graphics cards go for $150...!!

You can't even play modern VP9 tables with your ancient systems... JP, Groni and Scapino have put out some pretty amazing tables if you haven't noticed... upgrading the system for those games alone is worth it...!!

It was nothing personal... adieu mon brave...!!

Ok, there's the problem. I wasn't dissing you or your AAE pack, sorry if it came out like that. Since I neglected to say it the first time.

"Kristian, thanks for bringing this emulator to the publics attention, and thanks for packing all the necessary roms in one nice file for everyone to enjoy"

I guess I was trying to bring to light that people will need a pretty powerful PC to run the emulator.

Thanks Kristian ... downloaded it already will check it out soon, looks cool as shit.

Android ... Do you mean Arkanoid ?

I get about 1 frame per 3 seconds on this.... I have an ATI Radeon X600 graphics card or something like that. :)

Thanks for sharing this with us Kristian :)
Running smooth here on old HW, P4 3 GHz, 3 GB RAM, 7600GS GPU. All games run in 38-60 FPS ;)

Same advice to you Mr. Bobby my old pal...!!

Time to dump that Osborne 286 with monochrome display... ....you guys are living in the past...no more flipperless tables....The Smiths are dead....Morrisey's straight...and Queenie's outlasted them... it's 2009... cut your mullets and get a modern system...!! :shakeass:
