Bill blows you... THROUGH YOUR MIND!

Going With The Meandering Flowing

Yes, you're jumping the gun! At least you are on the Count 5. Have you noticed a certain correlation to the songs that have been posted so far? No Limeys! If you're looking for Limey Nuggets (which sounds like the item on the Chinese buffet no one ever chooses), there is a box set floating around. I, after a quick search of my library, apparently never grabbed it. Probably because "Matchstick Men" was on it. I'd rather listen to the Monday-at-noon tornado siren test.
You can have your "Pictures Of Match Schtik Men" sans British accent. The nerve stinging, sawing on dead cat's gut fiddle, well...That's still there. From the California men that "Take The Skinheads Bowling" It's, Camper Van Beethoven

Yeah, watch that "flow breaking" crap, arne! If there's one thing Pinball Nirvana's famous for is the pristine and orderly threads. That and its steadfast hatred of North Korea.
My friend's band did "Take the Skinheads Bowling"! I think everyone had a friend's band who did "Take the Skinheads Bowling" back then. I think an argument could be made that it's the "garage rock" of the '80s.

Of all these albums that have songs I’m not familiar with, I think Pop IV is my favorite. Dammit, I love me some “Hey, 98.6†so it’s good to see Keith back again with another groovy lite-rock tune! What with Keith, “Pretty Ballerina†and “Mr. Die-ingly Sadâ€, you’ve got some real 15-year-old-girl weepers here! Once you’re done with the hankie, rock out to “Hello†by Lee Michaels, which sounds like some bad-ass ‘70s arena rock years before its time!

Jerry was married to Phyllis. She was a nurse. And I was friends with their son Mark.
In '69, one evening, Phyllis invited the neighbor kids along with her and her kids to go see "Goodbye Columbus" (rated R) and "The Sterile Cuckoo". Double bill at the drive-in. I was 15. Mark was 13. But it worked out because they owned a station wagon.

I haven't seen Mark since "Life Beyond L.A.". He later worked as an electrician on L.A. Confidential and as a lighting technician for Spielberg and Disney, but hasn't been listed for a number of years.

I'm trying to think of a worse '60s drive-in double-bill to take the kids to, but I'm drawing a blank. I was the same age when I rode my bike to the Meadowlark Drive-In (and, yeah, they let in a 14-year-old kid on his bike into the drive-in) and caught Up In Smoke and Meatballs. Now that's a drive-in double bill! And, if you're wondering, my theme song is better than yours. :pistoles:

That's okay Bill. I caught "Up in Smoke" at The World Theater.
A triple-bill grindhouse for a Buck that once operated in the low-rent east end of Hollywood. Catering to a mostly urban crowd in a neighborhood that made a habit of talking back to the screen. Their specialty was films such as "The Five Deadly Venoms". But I also saw Cronenberg's "Scanners" there.

And "Sterile Cuckoo". The upstairs above Jerry and Phyllis was another buddy and his Mom. One evening she stood in the hallway in full view of me and her son in her bra. Same bra as Liza's, though I'm still not sure about her. I think she played Dick Martin on t.v. Earlier residents in that apartment building included The Doublemint Twins. Gorgeous they were.
They were twin blondes who did a snow and ski set of commercials in the mid 60's,
but that series isn't available on YouTube, else I would damn well post them here.

I'll be honest and admit that I really thought you were talking out your ass about not being able to find any of those Doublemint Twin commercials, but slap me red and call me Nancy, I'll be damned if there isn't a huge hole in the Doublemint Video History! None of those late-'60s/early-'70s commercials that were the very definition of "Doublemint Twins". What are all these videos of brunettes selling Doublemint? That's an infamnia!
I did, however, find this. And like the Pledge of Allegiance and the Apostles' Creed, I still remember all the words.

All right, big boppers! This is the one! Gone from the charts but not from our hearts, this is a smorgasbord of the greatest tunes ever to beam out of a Snoopy-shaped transistor radio! Not one, not two but three discs of Nuggets greatest hits! And these discs are of the compact variety, so Snap, Crackle and Pop stayed at home. It looks like I wasn’t quite so thorough at weeding out all the dupes on the other sets, but you might want to hang on to them. It’s interesting to hear how remastering evolved over the years. Play both “Shapes of Things†by Max Frost and you’ll hear that the vocals are no longer coming out of the right channel on the CD. Or, you could also save the homework for school and just rock yer block off!

No problem Bill. But you should know that, growing up as a cleft palate with a severe speech impediment, I am programmed to be extremely accurate and observant to the best of my ability just to be understood by others. As a consequence of my training, I (almost) never lie.
And this fact is the cause for the difficulties that I have with the locals. They want me in, but they too often want to screw people off.
And they want to take credit for things that I didn't even come up with.

So, if I tell you that I have at least one tune of mine on each and every one of those Nuggets, or that I saw Clapton walking out of my apartment complex to his black Chevy Silverado truck as I returned home, or that I have two empty boxes of chocolates that I ("Slearwig"; also me) found in 2007 atop my apartment dumpsters...a complex which claims to cater "to low income"...

...it is because I (mostly) do not lie. But I can be mistaken now and then.

They didn't teach guitar in elementary school. So I signed on for violin lessons in '64 and played in the school orchestra until I quit the violin in '69.

This is a Silvertone Guitar circa 1965. It was a damnable beast with a torturous Ruler-Flat fretboard radius. Very Poor for making bar chords. Probably selected so I couldn't make new friends and jam or gig with them away from the family. I did play some of my tunes for the upstairs buddy, and at Jerry's and at a girlfriend's house. She had a recording by an Uncle of hers.
My folks bought the Silvetone from Sears with a cherry-sunburst finish for my older brother's Christmas present. He left for The Navy a year later, in '66. You wouldn't believe the list of tunes that I pulled out of that nag, and the violin. Their art is a crafty devil.
EDIT: Please note that the picture is not the same guitar that we had. But it is the same model.

AH Yes! My most favorite tune are contained on those three discs. Many thanks for the posts.

I would never claim that you are lying arne... unless I catch you in one of those parenthetical (almost)s! But you're definitely talking out your ass on the Clapton thing. Slowhand would never drive a Chevy Silverado. He seems much more the Land Rover type. Say it loud! He's Brit and he's proud! On a sidenote, i'll bet that's a guitar Slowhand doesn't have in his collection!
Hey, arne, remember that time old man MacGregor told you to quit writing songs for The Strawberry Alarm Clock and get back to work boxing up those Whole Burbank Catalog loss leaders? They're all available right here! For those not in the know (but I'll bet you remember them!), Warner's loss leaders were very inexpensive samplers. Most were double albums that sold for about $2, featuring a look at whatever was hot off the press at WEA Records... and I'll be damned if they didn't accidentally create some pretty cool albums in the process! That Whole Burbank Catalog album features Jerry Garcia, T. Rex and Seals and Crofts to name but a few. And you know who put this compilation together? Barry Hansen... otherwise known as Dr. Demento! What the fuck, arne? You're so busy keeping an eye on Bea Arthur behind the counter at the 7-11 that you forgot to mention that your three-legged-race partner at the WEA company picnic was Dr. Demento? You sadden me.
BTW, if you would actually like to download some of these albums, just scroll down to the comments section on each individual album page. The first comment should say "Search HERE". Click on HERE and get you a slice of rock & roll heaven!

You are more than welcome, hogger! All I ask is that you spread the word! Play and share with friends and neighbors, because it is up to us to ensure that future generations do not forget the name of The Peanut Butter... was it Conspiracy? Yes, it was! So... blahblahblah future generations... The Peanut Butter Conspiracy!

(Almost) spot on Bill. And Loss Leaders? Not only did I suggest those sampler releases back in 67-68, I saved that damned company from extinction when somebody fenced my tune, "Getty's Groan". That's what would piss me off if it weren't for learning how to meditate.
Without me and Newhart, that place would be pretty much where it is today. I once e-mailed Stan Cornyn. I asked him "What's going on?"
But Stan took credit for Loss Leaders. He took credit for CD+Graphics. He even took credit for Jackson Browne. So he never got back to me. Amazing.

There's a Wikipedia. He's passed on last year.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stan_Cornyn

So I guess Stan is not "Hanna" after all. Rest in Peace.

Ain't Nuggets Rhino? Long ago I was suggesting an aftermarket outlet for albums that the majors were no longer supporting.
Funny how Rhino's first single in '73 was by Wild Man Fischer, formerly of Warner/Reprise.
And how they were then bought by Time Warner. My cable company.
These days, Rhino's offices are a mere 1000 ft. away from...

Sorry 'bout the Limey. This is particularly good listening on a Sunday evening.

Well, everyone, I’ve got bad news… dad is super pissed! He says if he can’t park the Dodge Dart in the garage then I get to join it outside and sleep in the backseat. But, hey, we got a couple hours before Tommy’s cousin comes by in his truck to get the drumkit, so we have time for just a few more numbers. As promised, I’m finishing up with a salute to our neighbors south of the border. By “border” I mean “equator” and by “neighbors” I mean that gang of filthy horse-fuckers England dumped off down Sydney way. It’s Australian Nuggets! Yeah, I can’t believe it either! I, too, had always been under the impression that Aussies didn’t have electricity until the 2000 Olympics! As to who you can expect to hear on this Down-Under Wonder? Fuck if I know! Ask Steve! One Easybeats song, and I hadn’t even heard of it. I can tell you this, though: Australia ain’t screwing around! This is a lot closer to those Punk sets than those Pop sets. Even The Bee Gees sound pissed! Well, I would be too if I spent my whole day sharpening sticks and poking them at dingoes trying to eat baby SteveOz.

I want to thank you guys for joining me on this obsessive little journey of mine. I am just a prophet trying to spread The Word. Hey, I like the major leaguers, too, but I sure wish half of the 20 million people who bought copies of The Beatles “1” best-of had copies of all these records, too.
EDIT: Hey! This one has been downloaded 11.5 times already! Only 9,999,988.5 to go!

Thank goodness. Not a single tune of mine in those last two. That allows me to enjoy listening again like I used to.

...whoops. :)

Gypsum Crow Rocky! If you knock off the first name and the C from the Surname, the two syllables that remain sound like my given name in shorthand. First and Middle.
That could explain "the extra nice welcome" I received at The Home Office, about 1,000 ft. from Rhino.

When I was there for a year as a temp with promises of permanent employment (with my tunes on the records), I was bumped a couple of times. Once, by a guy who is now the CEO of Time Warner, my cable company. And the other kid, Mark, was indifferent and really couldn't care at all. He was placed by Nepotism. I suspect it was some kind of a joke. The mezzanine where The Vault of current releases were kept was plastered with the latest Hustler Honey posters in full sight of everyone. Both sexes. Bill the Vault Keeper insisted on it. And mind you, now and then we had artists drop by to check on their promotional efforts. I remember Larry Mahan (King of the Rodeo and then-WB Country Artist) stopped by. There were no issues with Larry, but the Honeys were still plastered to the cage.

Where did Ruby go? Why did he have to die? Nooooooooo ..... just as I was getting to like him too

LOL! There have been other sites where the "ruby" name got me some... personal messages from people who were rightly confused. But I wouldn't expect such naughty behavior from a happily-married gentlemen! :pistoles: Hopefully, LeeVanCleef is more representative. Then again, I had a friend who dated a girl named Lee Marvin.

Confused? Me? Never!

I had a fancy for Lee Grant once. Else, she lied too.

I'm a Lee Remick man all the way!

Man, if there's a thread that makes me miss arne, it's this one. He managed to fill in some great musical blanks. He truly was our Ayatollah of RocknRolla. I even downloaded that Thunderclap Newman album he posted.

"We have got to get it together.
We have got to get it together now!"

Sigh. Maybe someday we'll get around to doing that.
