Fish Tales coming.

Last bowl of curry, damn tasty it was too, see Ike more rice, spice and vegetables then chicken, peas, carrots, tomatoes, mushrooms, onion.
What kind of curry mix do you like to use?

I usually do powdered of one type or another, but sometimes like to make Thai coconut-style, which requires a special paste, or semi-authentic Indian, which starts with frying a special seed / spice mix ("panch puran") in ghee. All three produce quite different tastes, so when tired of one style it's nice to switch and still be eating curry.

Also, I replaced rice with steel cut oats a couple years ago, and never looked back!

@AnonTet

Well it was what was left, I don't like waste, that said I did only get 2/3 through it and I'm a lazy eater and only generally have 1 big meal a day.

@Isaac Sauvage

I don't really follow any recipes or style, just throw it together, taking hints from various recipes.

Here's what went into the curry with diced boned chicken thighs I'm also a lazy chef and cook in bulk, enough for 4 or more meals in one hit.

*edit

there should also be a can of peas and carrots in the picture.

Nice ingredients.

That Panaeng curry you have plus the coconut milk is basically the starter for Thai curry. The bitterness & flavors of the raw curry paste gets unlocked beautifully by the milk. Reduce it down with some onions til it thickens, then toss in veggies and meat of choice. Garnish with fresh lime / basil / culantro / mint, whatever you have. Maybe some sprouts. Friggen' delicious, and pretty healthy if you can take the calorie hit from the coconut milk.

I know what you mean though about throwing whatever's available together. It's a lot of fun, and usually (but not always) turns out just fine!

I've been neglecting my window garden lately, but I've found that certain greens grow pretty good, even in winter. Opposite season to you of course.

I hate to waste food. I remember that since I was little and something I though my kids.

1 meal a day though is not for me :D

Curry is my wife's department. Pot and oven food really isn't for me to cook.

The Yak has landed...

Still need to get some accessories, life vest, trailer and stuff.

Trail run, towed it down the street to the cemetery and back, towed well no issues even hit 28kph at one stage. Will give it go riding to the estuary, early tomorrow morning, conditions prevailing.

Wow, I hadn't quite realised how large that is compared to a standard one-man. I used to have a semi-pro roommate who would carry a fold-up kayak in a backback, who loved to go out on the icy river. Talk about a different rig there.

So... do you not get down inside it like with the smaller ones?

@Isaac Sauvage

It is a bit bulkier than I envisioned, still manageable, it is 8 feet 10 in your currency or 2.7M, weighs 19kgs and is made of solid 3.5 mm UV stabilized plastic. Also, this is a sit on top purpose built for fishing kayak, here is the pro version YouTube clip, has a few extras, though the same hull.

Interesting video. I'm about halfway through. So you'll set up the seat once you get on the water edge?

Love all the options, but those staggered foot rests are super-awkward to me. Better IMO would have been a track or something with an attachable foot rest that you'd adjust to your dimensions.

Also can't believe how little the basic model costs, which looks like it converts to US$415 or so.

Did you say you were going to indeed use it for fishing? If so, what's on the menu?

I might also catch a monster fish.

I'd watch a 360 GoPro video if you ever do one.
Super fun to experience a video trip that way.

Example:

W-A-S-D keys to look all around.

Yeah, like that but in 360.

I was thinking about getting a used one myself to record table tennis and/or karaoke, altho both those careers are dead at the moment.

Still though, you've kind of put me in the mood to go boating, which I haven't done for years. Lake Erie is only about 4mi from me, hmm..

Might need a sponsor for a GoPro 360, costs more than my yak. 🛶

I'm seeing some used & new waterproof 360 models for under US$100.

I guess so many models have come out over the years that even recent-ish models have come way down in price.

No idea if this (only 140deg) model below is total shite, but I'd certainly spend a twenty just to screw around with the sucker, even it broke: Walmart link

If that doesn't show up for some reason, it's this EleaEleanor / Sport Action Camera WiFi Waterproof Photography Cameras 140 Degree Ultra Wide Angle Lens

Guess I'm obsessed with that part, lol.

I made to it the Collie river and back, it was a bit windy, still I paddled up the river trolling with a lure, no luck, though at least I got my bum wet. It was mostly just a trial run and wasn't expecting fish, boat handled well, and I need more paddle experience, into the wind was tough.

The hull looked incredibly well-designed from the video. I mean ridges and shapes to give it extra stability.

How much of that gear came standard and how much extra did you have to buy?

Everything, except the life jacket and trolley, was included. Going to rig up a better rear hitch for the bike, see pic c1, it held, though I roped it up on the ride back, glad I packed the rope as backup.

The new budget fix should work a treat.

Makes me wonder if you could 3D print that piece and some of the other accessories. I don't know much about 3D printing, but have seen people make all kinds of handy stuff.

I guess the issue here would be if the right grade of plastic could be used that wouldn't be brittle or whatnot. Based on what I've seen, it does seem possible.

Btw, does your ebike fold up? Would be pretty interesting to bike to the water pulling the kayak, then kayak on the water, with the bike stowed in back. Or is that what you do already?

I'm thinking going 3D printing is not the solution when a handyman like me can make do with a $3.20 part. :bonk:

Also, the bike does fold, but no, I left it locked to that guard rail and no way you would want to have it on board. Going to leave the trolley on shore next time also, the weight of that was a noticeable drag as it was.

*Edit, c3 with backup rope made it home.

I was looking moreso towards the future, given all the individual nooks, crannies and fittings on the boat. There also might be some interesting '3D hacks' that owners either print or build by hand to add functionality here and there. That video really got me thinking!

Btw, what happens if there's a hull breakage, btw? Could cracks or whatnot be repaired by epoxy + fibreglass, or something like that?

Comes with a 5-year guarantee on the hull assuming 'normal' usage, already got a few scratches in mine having to push over a low sunken log on launch. Not read of any hull failures on this kind of craft, that said, hate to say it, but at the replacement/upgrade price, not really a consideration, is it?
