VPX Recreation FSS VPX MOD's and where to find them.

OK now i'm lost. You don't need a cabinet, just the monitor that rotates... or did I miss something?

Been doing that for decades. I think I recall rotating my TV on the dreamcast... saturn? on a console :D

Well you need some form of a game controller connected to a PC for sure, but other than that , no. It's a simple screen rotation. Question: are you talking about the MAME arcade or the FSS pinball?

@xenonph By request here is the quad, and unfortunately you won't be able to use Rastan it's currently out of order.

Anything. I recall turning my TV to play some dreamcast shmups a few times!

Isn't FSS Full Single Screen? VPX, MAME, it doesn't matter. You can rotate the games to each side to accomodate for your monitor rotation capabilities on both...

Of course, if I misread something please excuse my ignorance in which case, please explain.

Right now, i'm just sure on how those look awesome and I'd love to see the full cabinet while playing :)

So I clearly can't stop.. I admit it... I need to talk to someone!
I was hoping for better results from omega race, it is what it is.. Gorf was the most difficult of all these cab reproductions.. man that was involved, 5 solid hrs, shows in the results. Well I will work on the site this weekend, I really don't like HTML!

Site has been updated, If you find any issues please let me know here, as this is a point of contact. Enjoy the MAME stuff! now I can finally go play Super Pac-Man with my son!

Any new FSS pinball releases on the horizon?

Theres a guy named Morttis that used to post FSS tables over on another virtual pinball site. I wish I could get a hold of all his FSS tables that he converted.

Not sure if you noticed when clicking link in first post of this topic, but 39 Mortiss mods are at the bottom of the page on Arconovum's site here....

actually it's 58 as of today.. and I don't mean my age!

While I am here wanted to show off what I have been working on, Keep in mind this does not use special rendering, just vanilla VPX scripting of my lighting FSS SDK and textures. I could if I wanted to match it perfectly, but I prefer a general use SDK, than a one time specific use case.

I finally can play my favourite table Congo! man I really botched my FSS release of that one.. on next release it will all be good! Now I'm working on NBA fastbreak, which will have a proper working backglass.

Congo_shadow_images.jpg

NBA Fastbreak is almost done. Just the backglass mechanics / physics to finish up , had the weirdest gameplay last night, on both Congo and NBA , I did not know playing at midnight would trigger midnight madness modes in both these tables.. was really cool!

Midnight Madness is a special mode that's only available on a few Williams pinball machines.
The name reveals what it is: a special mode that only starts when the game is played at midnight..

Only these games have it:
  • Congo
  • Dirty Harry
  • Johnny Mnemonic
  • Junk Yard
  • NBA Fastbreak
  • Who Dunnit
On some games (like Congo) it can be enabled/disabled in its settings, 'Special mode' has to be on.
Then when you are playing and the pinball machines internal clock reaches midnight, the game stops (it's like the power has been cut) and after a few seconds says 'midnight madness' on the display (on most games there's also a special sound indication).
For one minute you get a multiball.. some games display additional graphics on the display when targets are hit.

Midnight Madness was the idea of Dwight Sullivan, who had a dream of seeing every game in an arcade light up with this mode at the exact same time. That also meant asking other programmers to put the MM routine into their games. Some did and some didn't.

When you start a game on Junk Yard right before the clock reaches midnight, the devil will say 'interesting' at the start of the game, instead of the regular 'Crazy Bob' opening scene.

Note Theatre of Magic does not have this Midnight Madness special mode. Midnight Madness is the name of a regular mode in the game that can be started on every game played..

Ok you need to seriously clarify this for me if you can!!! in IMDB say Midway/Williams is manufacturer of NBA-Fastbreak, on pinside its Bally.
The table itself has Bally on the backglass, but the flippers are Williams.. WTF????

In 1988 Williams took over the pinball division of Bally. During the 90's Williams used both the Bally and Williams brandnames to release games, while the games were actually built in the same factory and used the same hardware.

Williams, after acquiring the Bally/Midway amusement games unit, continued to use the Bally name for pinball games, until Williams's parent company WMS Industries ceased pinball production in 1999, having spun off the video game unit as Midway Games the previous year.

Fun to discover these, I'm pretty new to this vpin world and have found I prefer portrait mode for playing VPX on my desktop. We just started playing a friendly competition of Dr. Dude, so I checked out my first FSS, your vpx file for that table. I love the layout! Unfortunately, I'm on the latest VPX 10.8 beta 64bit and when I try to run it, I can see the realism trying to come through but the lighting is very saturated. Also, it turns out we are playing v3.0 of the table and your FSS is 2.x -- so, I'm not sure I got to experience your full intentions but I'm intrigued! Is there a guide if I wanted to try to replicate something like this?
I appreciate what you've put together here, I would love to be able to play more tables in this format. Cheers!

If you obtained that at archive.org it is fake, it is not mine. my FSS are all at rev2.6 and will not change for the foreseeable future. As for the best experience for FSS two things: for 1 they were all made in 10.6.2, and therefore are best experienced in that version of vpinball, The other is I use reshade 3.1.0. this gives a much needed anti-aliasing, sharpness boost. The only source for my FSS is https://fss-pinball.com/ and nowhere else.

I am currently involved in checking my tables against 10.8 beta , but are still to this day, made in 10.6.2.

Thanks for the tips! For clarification, I did download from your site directly. I was referring to the version build of the table. The one I'm playing is 3.0 with updated physics, lighting etc. for vpx 10.8 (https://vpuniverse.com/files/file/15876-dr-dude-his-excellent-ray-bally-1990/) - the table build version I downloaded from your site is 2.2. My apologies for any confusion.

I love the concept, and am looking for resources to learn how to recreate or similar. I saw it took you a year to figure it out, I may have a ways to go - this is day 2 for me :-D

There is no correlation between the versions of a FSS table, and the versions of regular tables.
The FSS tables started as version 1.
If a regular table was version 2.0 when the FSS was made, the FSS table does not continue with next version number. For example v2.1.
It has nothing to do with other tables version numbers.

The Final 4th before release Judge Dredd, actually I just watched Dredd with Carl Urban to get in the mood, better than Judge Dredd with Stallone!

Pulled off a quick and dirty FSS of Last Action Hero, unfortunately its only a 1 mode FSS, no day to night transition, which I will do but at a later date.
