Just wanted to say hi to you all. Just registered myself to this site. I'm an old git aged 39, living in north norway. I've been a pinball addict all my life - but, unfortunatly pins are very scarce nowadays ... at least where I live.

I've been a vpinball user for a couple of years now, but, haven't been very active in communicating by forums (read vpforums). And, as you might understand ... I just reg. myself on this site.

Just writing this to say hi ... really, and to thank all the hard working developers for their amazing jobs with both emulators, tables and what not ... You guys really rock.

RE: Hi, I

Welcome to Pinball Nirvana Thalamus! I hear ya with the pinball is scarce comment, I also cannot find any where I live in Canada:( Thank goodness for VP so I can get my pinball fix :D

RE: Hi, I

Played any good shoot em ups lately?

RE: Hi, I

If its me your asking ... no, not really. My computer needs some upgrades in order to play the newer games anyway. And, imo - there hasn't been out any really good multiplayer games since Tribes 2 :)

People say VPX 10.8 is great, but many older tables will not run properly under it. Someone posted today, in reply to me, that they have multiple versions of VPX in the same directory, and to use popper, they just rename the visualpinball.exe for 10.8 to another name. But it looks like you need to make a new emulator for popper to use to assign a different starting .exe for a particular game. I assume you copy everything over from the old VPX 10.7.3 directory except the new 10.8.exe. Will this be OK? Will the system get messed up having 2 VPX programs running on the machine, like messing up config files and logs and stuff in the Registry? It looks like trouble to me. What do you suggest to keep 10.7.3 for most games and make a separate .exe for the games that need 10.8 and newer to run? Thanks - Mike

You should be able to rename your 10.8.exe and have it in same folder as the other VP exes.
I have 10.7.3 as the main exe named VPinballX.exe.
You can see I also have 10.7.4 named VPinballX74.exe.

Remember VPX10.8 is in BETA Phase, and is not meant for the average user.
When it is out of BETA Phase, I am sure all of the old tables will work fine with the new VPX10.8.exe.

Thank you for the reply! Are you using Pinup Popper to call the different executables or do you have to run them directly? Popper wants you to use a specific emulator to call a particular game, so it appears you need to make a dedicated emulator directory for each version of VPX you want to use.

Just want to say welcome to PN.

I am not using PinUp Popper, or Pup Player, so I am no help with those 2 items.

I think you are asking me this question (not Xenonph). The only reason to have 2 emulators (I would assume) is so you can run old games if the new release of VPX will not run them properly. I have been told that when a new release is made official (not a beta) it WILL run old games properly. Just wondering how to run two different VPX exe's with popper.

VPX full size cab, 3 screens. Using Popper to select games. I've heard some old games don't run properly under VPX 10.8 beta, but heard from some experts that when 10.8 is officially released it WILL run old games correctly. Heard some people run multiple VPX exe's through Popper, but don't know how unless they create another emulator directory with another VPX version in it.

i was just wondering why Xeno has old versions of VPX in his Cdrive in post #6.
you can use 2 pinball directories in Cdrive.
i have my old VP9 in the 3click then i have the later VP9 and VPX in the all allinone.
there were some DTexecs and physics updates in the allinone installer that were needed for the later VP9 and VPX.
for VPX i guess you create another folder in your Cdrive next to the original VPX and rename it VPX2.
then copy/paste another VPX installer inside then extract it. VPX is already installed in control panel so i guess it would work.
my VP9 worked in the allinone installer with VPinstaller in control panel.
all i had to do was copy paste the new stuff into the folders and do pinmame.
put a ' in front of the Pinmame folders in both VP folders so it doesn't mess up the other pinmame paths when configuring
the paths in both VP or VPX folders.
you can't have 2 folders in the same directory with the same name.
just change the name a little.
let me know how it worked out.

For 1, when I helped Druadic update his tables, and they were originally made with VPX6.
Well I like being able to use the older VPX.exe, so people who have not upgraded to VPX7, can still play table without any messages popping up saying it was made with newer exe. So I used the VPX6 to make those updates on his tables. (Although I did test them all in VPX7.3 also)
I guess I could have used VPX8, but then everyone would have to upgrade to VPX8 to play it.
Now you know why I keep older VPX.exes.

ok, i see.
VP6 goes way back.
i think i tried VP6.
it doesn't rotate for FS and i got an expired popup on the screen.
i was a rookie at that time in 09 when VP9 was the new engine.
i tried the new VP9 905/907/908 engine.
the new VP9 worked fine. never looked back.
