that would be a blow for PN, since he was kind of the main topic-driver here the last couple of years.

i have too many main hangouts to be interested in stepping up, but i'll still check here a couple times a week and contribute somewhat if other people do the same. otherwise, you can all go to hell. :)

"you know how to go to hell, right? you just put your lips together and suck..."

to crown that bit of logic, i leave you with the answer to a question that's been burning a hole in your consciousness for many years-- is JFK the man who killed the traditional american hat?

Wearing hats like those pictured would force us to leave the car's top down, and we now know how that can turn out.

Re sleepy's 'retirement'; hopefully, it's not due to health issues, or the family acting up again.

If someone said I was missed, I'd say I didn't even know I'd been shot at.....

Sleepy posted yesterday and today at VPF, so maybe he just lost his PN bookmark. :)

@grand specialist gregg,
that's a pretty darn good argument IMO. another one that makes sense to me is the fact that the hat was a symbol of conformity, and with the rise of individualism, was pretty much bound to go.

@tada,
aw, how disappointing. i was hoping he would cry like a spoiled brat the way i did here a few years ago. :)

btw, are ppl still going to that chatroom thingy? been a while since i dropped by there...

I PMed sleepy both here and VPF about a month ago... didn't get an answer to either message. Hope he's well and comes back soon. This joint just ain't the same without him.

If you're from another site, no way THAT got through....

side note: my sources indicate that this is a very recent pic of bob carrying sleepy:

Thanx 4 "DA" Update. Glad to hear that "Sleepy" is doing some thing - some where.

The only way you'll get me to wear a hat is with Photoshop.

And he will make the face of heaven so fine

i fell asleep in the sun once, lionheart, and i spent the next week looking like lon chaney... thus your words have the ring of truthiness to them. :)

Why did sleepy leave this place? It is showing his last posting here to be in the Trayvon Martin thread.

I think you may have just answered your own question. Sure hope he'll pop back over someday. It's kinda lonely here without him.

thank you, bill.

so arne's instinct was seemingly off on the zimmerman - martin case. my initial gut feeling was to support the fellow peruvian, as well. so evidently it turned out we were both sort of wrongish, and probably both felt a bit embarrassed by such... although seemingly at different points in that process.

but if i had my words to do over again in that thread, i would take most of them back. i mean, at the time i was riled up indeed, but that is no reason to talk about "friendship." very poor choice on my part, and i apologise. please, someone relay that to sleepy.

we all look foolish in front of our bros from time to time. it is no shame. in a sense, it is a certain gift we can give others and when the dust settles, our buddies will return the gift. both the gift of understanding and the gift of reciprocal foolishness.

lord knows... i've given the gift of displaying my stupidity, critical nature, arrogance and mean-spiritedness on many an occasion in the VP scene. when sleepy and you guys are around, still posting, you don't ever actually have to say it, but there is an unspoken kindness of "nic, at times you've been an unholy asshole across the years, but i still think you're mainly okay."

someone please tell sleepy that he was unfairly singled out here on the zimmerman - martin issue, maybe some earlier stuff as well.

nobody's perfect, we all have our quirks, but sleepy was the hub of the wheel, here. although i wonder, maybe he got tired of that job and this was his way of bidding sayonara.

SO pardon me... this might be a trifle harsh... but most of you guys have been somewhat inconsistent about recognising sleepy, tilt and JPH for their continuing contributions to the site. in my eyes they are a great deal of the backbone, along with you guys as a whole, and yet most active posters here seem to just assume that the show will go on forever.

'thanking' them here and there is probably not really what they are after. no, i think what they are really after is your contribution of personality.... little more, little less.

listen, bros-- i loves ya for being bros, but this final corner of the VP scene is about the LAST online place i am hanging on to. i was doing it for friendship and connection, because i do indeed feel connected to you all. but don't test ike's will, mofos... don't test ike's will.

anyway, why are you checking "new posts" here if any of this is irrelevant to you? aha! so get off your sorry assholes, asses, eh? (would be an option)

your gift for reading this far? a classic 50's / 60's tune--

Just wait for the monologue!
I thought that was it!

Big mistake; I poured the ultimate (large) CC&7 BEFORE turning on the computer and reading the latest. I will therefore protect all of you from my sense of humor, which has been known to backfire, especially when chemically enhanced.....by abstaining from posting my take on all of that (the monologue).

I will also re-read the Trayvon thread to see what was said that might have pissed anybody off.

Cheers, gang!

Men About Hats

I do think we had a better society when all men wore hats in public. Me, well I guess I am still looking for the right hat. I actually tried one last night. My friend Steve has been making leather hats for about a year. I do like his work and just maybe he will hit on just the right hat for me...Thanks for the above music posts. The local college radio was playing this early this year...C_S

I saw you edited your post perhaps your genetics predisposed your thoughts?

Musical ability is a fascinating phenomenon. Musical aptitude varies between individuals and it may arise in several different ways. Musical abilities have been studied for over hundred years but not until now have attempts been made to uncover the molecular genetics of musical aptitude.
Music is universal. It is practiced and listened to in every culture, and it has been proposed that music preceded language in human communication.
Listening and enjoying listening to music do not require practice. Infants are naturally interested in music and their musical receptive skills appear very early: infants' processing of musical or music-like patterns is much like that of adults. This notion of musical predisposition implies that interest in music is an inborn property of human beings.

:guitar:

Myself I'd say it's the same as most, music was something that I was into and did engage in much more so then, then now, that said it always has that ability to take you back make you think and arose, where most else can only come close.

@ Ike; Huh? I was trying to decipher the secret message, and you pulled it? Oh, well.....thanks anyway.

I've never cared much for dancing (though it is an acceptable opportunity to rub against someone in a blatantly suggestive manner); what I am more likely to do under the influence of that music is visualize my fingers flying over the fretboard or keys while bare-hand drumming on the nearest table, countertop, automobile dashboard, or pair of my own thighs, even (hence the bruises). I don't suppose that's what you meant by suffering?

Anyway, my next musical gift features human voices instead of horns, and the tastiest dubbed-harmony guitar solo I can think of. Not the fastest or shreddingest (Cacophony, Racer X, etc.), but well-executed and nicely written: Manhattan Transfer - Twilight Zone - YouTube

Wow---almost as much fun as deciding who worships the best god.

Ah, guns, only purpose to maim, injure and kill, how can this even compare to music?

Yes I have shot a man, all be it with a hi powered air rifle, never expected to even hit him, so it was his rifle and at the time it was just a exchange of toys, he on my trail bike, me with his gun. Years ago just having fun camping out in the bush, still I'd rather of not had that gun option now or then, as it was he got one hell of a bruise on his back and didn't lose control of the the bike or anything worse. I only fired that one shot at him as I thought he was out of range and was bored with shooting pine cones of the nearby trees.

The last weapon I fired was an M16/AR-15 in Vietnam in 1967 ((I loved it.....I could actually hit something (a big clump of dead brush outside of basecamp)) at what was perhaps 600 yards, since the inline recoil kept it from 'riding up' as I burned off those potentially wet and unreliable rounds at full-auto. With the M-14, I barely qualified as Marksman, and with a .45, HA! Forget it!
Anyway, the Army saw fit to make me a medical corpsman, so I was too encumbered with aidbags and canteens to bother with anything bigger than that .45, and never drew it during the 'fun'.

Fast forward to 1978; a friend and I were at a 7-11 playing pinball when two 'ethnic' gentlemen came in with a handgun (revolver or automatic, I don't recall) and a sawed-off. After confiscating our wallets, keys, and whatever else interested them, they directed us to the storeroom, where they might easily have decided to discharge some rounds.....into us. If I'd had a way, I'd have plugged that sonofabitch without the slightest regard for whether or not he survived.

That having been said, let responsible people carry guns, because the IRresponsible pricks out there certainly do.

P.S: None of the above was the fault of the pinball machine; If 7-11s had pinball machines today, I'd still play. Bottoms Up!

Yeah GSGregg, I hear ya. In the UK they banned all handguns ..... so now, only the criminals have them.

Progress! :(

And in doing so it ruined my pastime down the range .... bastards! :cuss:

Eh you want/need a hand gun to hit some distant object for thrills and you call that sport? Really I think you need to get more active in your line of sports, does that do you body, heart, mind or soul any good?

The crims will always have access to err, criminal weapons, making them legal is not going to do anything other then make them less criminal and easier to obtain.

Didn't call it sport - it was a pastime and was a lot of fun. Far more difficult than the television would have you believe.

And yes it did my mind a lot of good; you have no idea 'who' I'd be aiming at ;)
