Yes, that is correct. The one who is affectionately known as "Larry".

I have Every Reason to wish it. Quaker, now owned by Pepsico has destroyed My Breakfast. Mind you, this is no mean feat. But they have, by rendering the much beloved Quaker Instant Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal by first removing the Real Maple Sugar And Then the Real Light Brown Sugar, and then replacing the Natural Flavors with Phosphates and Diacetyl (that junky fake butter flavor in microwave popcorn which can cause lung damage if inhaled), and coffee for imitation maple flavoring, and these are replacements in the place of Real Food.

The Definition of The Word "Breakfast" is, to break one's fasting, usually after a fitful night of sleeping with no food for 8 to 12 hrs., hence the term, "Breakfast".

Now, I do not start my mornings, or evenings, or whenever I somehow manage to fall off the couch and wake up, by loading up on a heaping bowl of steaming Diacetyl. This will not work for my system.

The Shame of it is that, if Pepsico gets away with this heinous deed that they have done, 20 years from now the children will not know the difference.
The children will think nothing of these heaping steaming bowels of Diacetyl, as if "What's Wrong With It?"..

I have Never tasted such a Godawful breakfast cereal in my entire life.
I called the Pepsico Oatmeal Number at 1-800-555-6287 to complain about it. They offered me coupons for more Diacetyl. I Refuse.
I urge you to do the same.

I want this man's head on my desk by 5 P.M.

Heh, I'm not the only one. Looks like you'll need to Copy/Paste the URL in the browser's Address Bar to get there.

what are you eating that crap for anyway, sleepy?

irish steel-cut oats is the way to go for nutrients, fiber, lower glycemic load... plus you can add just enough sweetener to get by instead of the massive quantities of sugar they add in those instant packets.

Why not just use plain non Quaker oats and add your own brown sugar and maple?

I'd say it would most likely taste better then the original quaker oats. Sure has been awhile since I had a bowl of porridge, usually just a bit of sugar and a splash of milk mixed in for me.

Well I'll tell ya Ike. I Love that Massive old school original Maple and Brown Sugar.
But I am forced to consider a quality brand that I can add my own Real Maple Syrup and Real Light Brown Sugar to, in Massive Quantities of course.

Heck, I still miss the Original Famous Amos Tollhouse Cookies made with Real Butter and Vanilla and high quality chocolate chips.

And I miss Brockmeyers Carob Milk made with whole sweet milk and Turbinado Sugar. And Dino's sweet-brewed Cappuccino Coffee. Great stuff.

EDIT: And The Original Burger King Whopper back when it was a savory salisbury char-broil with 30% clean fat to increase the smoky savory taste from the BBQ.

Kroger has a lower sugar version on brown sugar and maple that I like. Tastes like the real thing to me.

Yep, for sure I'm looking elsewhere.
McCann's (Steel Cut) Irish Oatmeal sounds good.
They also offer an Instant Maple and Brown Sugar, so we'll see about that.

that's cool if they have mccann's. funny how quaker noticed that growing niche and now sells their own version in the cardboard cylinders. it actually costs less and tastes a little better IMO.

unregulated glycemic load is one of the biggest causes of poor health. diabetes is just the tip of that iceberg. processed grains are yummy murderers, you know. :p

plus the fiber from the steel-cut oats takes up the LDL that cycles through our GI. win-win.

sorry... was extremely cranky, earlier. had been trying to fall asleep for many hrs in hot apt, nursing an ulcer. guildmate from italy driving me crazy, as well. ah well, sorry for any rudeness / lecturing on my part. :s

Just tried Rogue; timed out three times. Is 'Larry' banging on their door seeking protection or something?

Naw. "Larry" is A Rip-Off.

Hey Ike, I only like what I like, but I expect you to have your own opinion.
That's what makes it all worthwhile.

Ulcer? Hey, make sure that the food you eat hasn't been fubar'd by the manufacturers. That's like what Pepsi is doing with the phony shit oatmeal.
Stay away from phosphates and have your blood-ammonia and blood-phosphorus levels checked. It could be your liver and kidneys, like me.
The liver and its enzymes convert ammonia to urine, as should be.
A weakened liver may fail to make adequate conversion by value or by volume.

The quick and dirty test for excess blood-ammonia level is to put a couple of drops of Phillips Milk of Magnesia, or a Magnesium supplement tab, in your mouth.
If it sets off a noticeable cloud of ammonia, then that's it.A high blood-ammonia level or blood-phosphorus level can screw up the electrolytic salts, including essential Magnesium. It pisses them out of use . High blood-ammonia and excess phosphorus levels can be toxic and can also rob needed Vitamin A which may cause vision problems and kidney stones. Jackstones are ammonium-magnesium phosphate.

Ike, you might need one of those Big Patton fans, the kind that will blow the cats away to the far corners.

I went for two weeks while the central air was out of order, and I slept in the winds of a used Patton fan that I found and rejuvenated with a couple of squirts of WD-40, but don't drink WD-40, and let the fumes blow out before using such a fan.

A Big Patton fan and keeping your hair and shirt wet while sittin' in the wind of it will do wonders for your cool.

I just remembered. I sometimes suffer from Hypoglycemia-too low.
Rarely or never from hyperglycemia, so that fact causes me to think.

The hypoglycemia comes on like brittle edginess with shakes and tremors and an Unbelievably Strong hunger pang, very urgent. In times past I would grab a chunk of brick cheddar to eat and then take a nap for a half an hour to reset, but the modern quality of brick cheddar is often poor with additives and ammonia levels (that word again) due to improper curing of the cheese. A quality cheddar cheese has none of that stuff.

nah, mate, i don't eat processed food except for right now when i need a little comfort food during this nasty ulcer. my biggest problem is choosing fruits and veggies that have low pesticide loads, or needing to buy them organically.

i'm a bit naughty in that i like home-fries (lightly sauteed potato wedges) with my veggie white omelets. not only are they starch bombs, but potatoes have very high pesticide uptake. but you can keep your blood sugar down by eating organic red potatoes that have been allowed to cool down a bit after cooking. they have the highest level of resistant starch, which helps keep your cardiovascular clean.

...

i drink mylanta pretty often, so i'm sure i would have noticed the ammonia thing. my problem is that some nasty mutant bacteria population got a foothold in my GI lining last time i was in peru a couple years ago. i've had endless problems dealing with it since then, and i've actually been aging in the face pretty fast too. takes forever to get this stuff sorted on medicare, and actually the GI stuff is down the list of serious health problems.

...

the heat problem was mainly due to having to keep all my apt windows closed because of impending rainstorms, ceiling fan wasn't quite enough and it wasn't -quite- hot enough to turn the big box fan on me. so i was quite in the twilight zone, you know?

after the box fan isn't good enough alone, i connect it up to the ice chest with water pump and ice water runs though copper tubing on the front and back. after that, i have a portable air conditioner that i broke down and bought last year. only had to use it five times in 2012, but that number will probably escalate as the earth keeps warming.

mylanta? Switch to this.

Let it breathe (out the chloroform) and up the dose a few 100%

You will not notice any ammonia thing. It's not great with coughs though.

SOLD!

you know i was reading the other day that the original coke had more than just cocaine in it, but i think heroin or morphine as well...

and apparently crystalised sucrose used to be sold at apothecaries as a stomach balm, among other things. that was as late as the teens... maybe 20's, i think.

Home fries? You mean homemade fries? All good, but on an ulcer stay away from frozen fries with di-hydrogen di-hydrogen pyrophosphate. Any additive with "Pyro" = Fire = chemically Very Hot.

I've had to avoid egg whites and stick to meats or succotach(sp?) for my proteins. I have to avoid beans on flare-ups also, though I Love Refried beans.

Some bacteria are affected by Acids, while other bacteria are affected by alkali.
This can help curb bacteria, unless you consume the opposite chemical property
in which case the bacteria may thrive. Brushing your teeth with Baking Soda can aggrevate a Cold or Flu for this reason.

I had what I think was a Listeria infection once and I killed it off by drinking 1 liter of plain unflavored Seltzer in one-half hour, not Club Soda with the minerals, but Seltzer made with distilled water and CO2. I think it was Listeria because the smell was like sour milk and I hadn't had any milk, but not like Yogurt cultured with Vinegar bacillus. This was like Nasty sour milk high in Sorbic Acid.

Mylanta?? Are they selling Mylanta finally? I can't find Mylanta or Maalox anywhere in L.A. I don't use either product because they both contain aluminum.

The aluminum might be good on high blood-ammonia levels. Aluminum will boil in household ammonia at room temperature.

No Aluminum In Mylanta

Well this information might be a little outdated. There was a time when I used a lot of Maalox. I was quite young and at first the aluminum was not a concern to me. The name Maalox is a contraction (sort of) of magnesium oxide and aluminum oxide. Then there was some discussion and about health consequences from aluminum cookware. And I found that Mylanta contained magnesium oxide and no aluminum. I also remember Mylanta costing twice as much as Maalox. Mylanta was smoother and less chalky.
Starting in my late teens I had real problems with heartburn. I ate a lot of sodium bicarbonate. It was my doctor told me about Maalox. He also told me to quit drinking coffee. I'd go for about a week without coffee and still have heartburn. About two decades later I gave up coffee completely and now I never get heartburn. I can go for years without heartburn. I have one cup of coffee, heartburn for the next two or three days. God I miss coffee.

EDIT: The following is Not a Recommendation! I used to drink cold coffee like water and I had to tone it down to a couple of cups a day and then I quit using it for about 4 years until I found out that I had a Vitamin B5 deficiency. The B5 helps to rebuild linings. I still keep my coffee use at a minimum.

The instant coffee must be made with boiling water to cure it.
The powdered instant coffees of the 1960's and 70's could be made with cold water, but in the late 80's and ever since with the move to 'fresh drip-grind taste' and 'coffee crystals' you now have to make instant coffee with the boiling water.

I drink it cold, but I make it with a quarter cup of boiling water to cure it, let it steep for a couple of minutes, and then add cold water to make up the difference and still have a cool coffee. Then I sit it in the freezer between sips.
I also nurse the coffee, not drinking it all at once but taking several hours with sips at it.

Coil, do you still drink tea or colas or caffeine products, or eat chocolate?

Stimulants?

I love tea but I had to quit that to. I have an unusual medical condition that seems to have me stimulated and on edge, sick and sort of dizzy.Dozens of doctor visits and over $10,000 worth of blood work and no answers. I don't need stimulants anymore. I don't sleep much either. I also have a heart rhythm problems so another reason for no coffee, tea or chocolate.

P.S. Boring isn't it....

Man, I don't trust the Doctors at all in L.A. Too many of them are in the pocket by frat associations to their U.C.L.A. and U.S.C. medical schools, and they are financially connected to Hollywood, so much so that if Hollywood is hazing you or if you are currently Pariah to them and you stumble across one of their Doctors, they then might behave as One of Their Doctors. It is horrible.

Perfect example. When the hazing started and the folks upstairs were depriving my sleep with Bowling Balls and Break Dancing and Jumping on the ceiling Everywhere I went to take a nap in my apartment below, I then resorted to rolling up tissue paper and putting it up both my ears just to get some restful quiet. I made a habit of replacing the paper, but it finally got stuck in both ears around 1980.

So I went to the Doctors to have it removed. I got Doc Lecter in Northridge who told me that he found no paper in either ear. In desperation I applied for SSI because surely the Social Security medical examiner for ear problems would spot the paper, but Nooo.
She saw nothing in my ears either, even though she then told me to 'keep my ears dry'. Well why should I if there is no ear impaction or infection?

After 25 years I finally found a Doctor who could I.D. the paper in my ears, but his clinic was not equipped to deal with removing the impactions.

The paper is Still stuck in both of my ears after more than 33 years. It will not decompose. So maybe your Doctors are not making a correct diagnosis?

Modern Medicine

My God man 33 years? I hope hope your ears don't bother you too much. I have talked to at least 15 doctors. At least 15 visits to my primary care physician. Two neurologists. Two nose and throat doctor's. Two other physicians. I was hospitalized four times in the past two years and described my litany of symptoms to every doctor that would give me their time of day. I've had an amazing array of diagnosis. I've got a drawer full of prescriptions. So far I've gotten no help at all. I've even had six visits to a biological dentist and had a couple of questionable root canals removed.. I've had three CAT scans two MRIs. I've lost 80 pounds along with my appetite. So while I still respect doctors I don't think much of modern medicine.

two things i've learned the past couple of years:

- food is medicine

- you are always your own PCP, especially in the age of the internet

I haven't read this thread yet but losing a bunch of weight along with an appetite is what's currently killing my beloved Aunt Judy, she is in her late 70's but that's not a good thing to do.
