Inventions thread.

I used part of an old pull cart, and made some other parts. It has a built in speaker (for my IPod), charges my phone, supports an umbrella, of course a scorecard and ball/tees holder. It is powered by a lawn and tractor battery, which is good for 36 holes. I also built a battery charger into the body of it. Just plug the cart into the wall, and it's charging. Speed control on the top. Despite it's size it come apart like an erector set, and fits in the trunk of my Escort with no problem.

The bag has also been modified as well. It has a rack built into it to keep the clubs form hitting one another. The top frame snaps over the clubs, and 2 wingnuts go on it.

Maybe, perhaps, doubtful, though in this instance those two pictures are far less then a thousand words, maybe 10 words and most of them are not in the Oxford...:)

Is this your frank-in buggy?

Ah OK, I read after your edit it is indeed another, Itchy abomination, now got to say no way, that is an invention, it's like I dunno a runaway electric buggy that went wild in the car park claimed a few victims and collected a few random parts along the way and still somehow functioned.

Tip!....You've got to mostly design and build it from scratch, not hobble something together from bits and pieces..

Yeah, but that's how all my stuff works. I mean when the filler neck in my car rusted through, buy a new one- NO. I used a piece of exhaust pipe (filler neck), and a golf shaft (vent line) to fix it. Been holding for 2 years now. And as long as we're on the subject of gas....

It's nothing new, but I predict the future is in personal electric mobility carts that have cargo space. For small towns and boroughs in an area of six to twelve blocks, but not for larger cities.

Why do I think so? Because the population is getting older. Because the cost of vehicles and insurance is becoming too expensive. Because mobility vehicles for Seniors and the disabled can be driven legally on the sidewalk out of harm's way of traffic and because any impact damage at a top speed of 15 kM/M.P.H. would be negligible.

Online shopping is exploding at an annual rate pf 15% per year. It now represents better than 10% ($307 Billion annually) of all consumer commerce, and I think it's due to the reluctance or inability to drive a car with it's costs while battling the crowds and the traffic and the parking. But people still need to take a trip to the local store or drug stores (or liquor store) just down the street, and they need a cargo carrier to get the groceries home.

An electric mobility cart can be driven inside most stores, though with an icrease of use, the stores may need to be redesigned in order to accomodate the number of carts wheeling up and down the aisles.

The population of The County of Los Angeles, Ca is above 5 Million people. 1 Million people use public transportation daily, buses and subways and trains. But these forms of getting around do no facilitate for the weekly shopping. And taxis are not as convenient as getting in the cart and getting back home within a half an hour to an hour. The buses make it a one to three hour round trip, just to pick up a few groceries.

that's pretty dang impressive... i think! so basically it's a turbo golf bag caddy? it moves itself, so all you have to do is to lightly guide it by the handle? btw, judging from all the pics and videos i see of golf carts overturning too easily, it seems like a good invention would be a golf cart with a low centre of gravity.

re: the 'empty' bike wheel. that looks cool, just that in urban environments in the states they would be a major theft magnet. but if they could integrate that in to a lightweight portable bike, that could mitigate some of the concern.

anyway, i saw an invention a little while back that could help save humanity's bacon... turning seawater in to fresh water at low cost and with little side-effects--

'Nanopores' filter salt out of seawater
http://www.businessinsider.com/scie...-that-filter-the-salt-out-of-seawater-2015-11

Actually I can recall reading about that salt water membrane awhile ago and was curious as to why I've yet to read about any larger scale applications of the technology?

The article indicates that it merely lays down the foundations for this technology maybe it's just not fully developed, robust enough or there maybe issues with funding or the costing of a larger scale prototype.

I also wonder if these filters can remain viable over time, do they need cleaning or do they need replacing, if so they maybe not so cost effective.

None the less if they can get it to actually work out in the field it does seem to have great potential.

yeah, that was my same question, steve.
as near as i can tell, the filters will indeed need changing on the regular... altho of course that's true of the existing methods, too!
the difference with this one is --apparently-- that the nanopore tech is just a fraction of the cost and produces a fraction of the waste compared to modern methods.

and also... that it's more efficient in the filtration of salt IIRC. so long stoli short, those seem to be the major breakthroughs in this case.

but yeah-- there's definitely a lot of 'advances' like this that suggest to us laymen that sustainability is going to take a MAJOR leap forward (we're about to live in bubble cities under the ocean, yo!!), only to kind of peter out or take much longer than we imagined.

i mean, i've seen the same sort of thing with solar energy tech and carbon-sequestration tech, and yet here we are today... still living unsustainably to put it mildly.

on a totally SEPARATE note, i really like this DIY site:
http://www.instructables.com/

if you remember my crate-inventions and stuff that i posted, well those were all mine! but THIS was the site where i got the idea for that homemade air-conditioner. :D

DOIT, STEVE, DOIT!

I'll bet those are cooler when it's hot outside.

About conventional housing construction, it seems like the builders and the city planners pay no regard to the solar trajectory. Here in Los Angeles where it's often quite hot, the streets and the houses are aligned lengthwise and broadside against the solar rays.
You would think that, in a hot climate, they would align the length of the buildings with the solar trajectory, and against the blunt force of the rays in colder climates.

I think the builders and city planners do that deliberately to insure added utilities revenues from the need for extra heating and cooling. But the houses that are built by the resident as a home for themselves tend to do the right thing and align with the elements. Not against the elements.

Now I really like this home construction, I think they look great and would really like to live in one of these GREEN MAGIC HOMES.
well, judging by the body of yours and sleepy's posts, i assume that you two have been living together in a "magic green home" for quite a long time now. :)

Stev's not The Bee Gees. Is he? And I don't even know it.

I'm not even in Florida.

It's been 6 years since my last visit.
Good to know you guys haven't aged even a month.

StevOz ... sup ?, I missed ya.

Ike good to see your liberal still reeks all over the place.

If Elton isn't involved this thread is gonna flop.

Where's Bob ?

Are Jon and Tilt even around anymore ?

Thanks

whoa, how you doin' there, mssr prez??

i notice that the number of blowhard southern toot-bags has increased so much that ze donald ze trump is on the verge of being declared home-coming bitch, much to establishment horror. i mean, hail mary and pass the peace, muvvle-fluffle... even for your gang, that's a pretty nice achievement!

but anyway, are you collection of geniuses still squatting in galveston, hoping and praying that the next storm doesn't go all cain velasquez / holly holm on your arses...?

Fuckin hilarious.

Donald who ? ... What a joke.
If he is the candidate the pubs deserve to lose ... but he is still better than Hillary.

Even funnier, Galveston is south of "our" ass.
I suggest you look at a map sometime and don't just believe CNN, MSNBC etc.

ehh... you're cool with me, prez.

my understanding upon bill clinton's fondness and endorsement upon the DONALD is pretty obvious, no?

but maybe the usual gang of idiots have had a breakthrough upon the matter. :D

I don't know of a single idiot that is for Trump.

Well maybe MH ... but that's it.

Bring Cranky back and see for yourself.

From working in a place that's 90% illegals, I'm for Trump. I have nothing against the kids working there, many I consider friends. But if you're here illegally you're taking away resources from people who are here on the up and up. (Jobs, etc). Would you leave your door open and let everyone in who wants to come in and eat your food, sleep there, make a mess, etc? That's what we're doing here.

Ah Da Prez, well good to read some of your insightful prose, as for politics or those twats that practice such skulduggery, frankly 99.9% of them should have been incarcerated indefinitely in some institution long before they could cause such widespread damage to society.

Me I'm doing rather well, I'm still 2IC here in Nirvana, killing spambots, letting the membership generally run a muck as they have a want to do and I have also done a few VP table mods uploaded here, crazy I know.

In real life, still employed part time at...

http://dunsboroughcountryclub.org.au/

Where I'm the general shit kicker, ya know wash the wheelie bins, blow the fallen leaves from outside the club house, mow the croquet courts, golf course, cleanout drains, have the chainsaw, tipper truck and tractor out on occasion doing what needs to be done.

Play golf twice a week and I'm the handicapper. On an 11 handicap now and I am our A grade club champion, not bad for a 52 year old hacker, link to my golfing prowess..

Also I have a new set of wheels, a 2015 Fuji Traverse 1.3 disc, discounted to $800 end of financial year deal, great bang for buck, my only transport actually .

Also stopped toking on cigarettes several months ago, went cold turkey, first few weeks was hell, though totally over it now. At least I have a little more spare change for booze, betting and drugs now, tobacco runs at over a $1 per gram here I kid you not!

Now back to an invention I purchased not so long ago, a vaporiser, these things are great!

Heh, nobody can damage society. Society is the disease. And there isn't an elected official who ever won the vote for any reason at all other than because the voters thought the candidate "needed the job". Like Santa for Christmas "fulfilling all of Your Wishes".

@prez,
do you guys still follow MMA?
it's been exciting lately, plus aldo - mcgregor is coming right up.

re: trump,
i don't see why anyone would vote for him (or carson) even if the voter -was- against immigration. for one thing, those two are not alone among GOPers in that stance, and for another, those two buffoons rarely even know what they're talking about and pretty much just make shit up on the regular.

virtually every other candidate would be a more effective POTUS simply because they know the system better and would be starting from a firmer grasp of reality.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8XnqhW-F0M
that looks pretty dope (PI), altho kind of unnecessarily large for a portable. is there a huge power cell inside?

the pax ploom is definitely more convenient from a portable standpoint, not that i need it for that too much.

I did do a fair amount of research before purchase, it is less then half the price of the ploom, lasts over twice as long on a single charge whilst providing better results by all accounts and it is still very pocket able whilst not actually looking like a smoking implement.
