Microsoft .NET Framework updates

maybe i missed.
from i read it is for developers and to run programs on this platform.
do i need it to play the newer VPX and FP?
what do we need it for??
i usually don't like DL programs i don't know because of all the maleware on the web.

As individuals who create pinball tables and the software required to play them use these, it is customary in the pinball community to stay current with software updates that support the Microsoft platform, such as.net Visual C etc.

I personally have always used it, as I have software that needs it. If you have tables that are running future/vpx and pup packs all working well, then you don't need it.
Maybe those that write pinball code can confirm if it's needed in the Pinball community

ok, but how do we know the DL from the www is safe from maleware and junk?

As I'm a retired Microsoft MVP of 14 years, you can trust me to make sure I post links that are safe. All the links I've posted in the past 24 years of being involved on the Internet have been good :-)

i didnt mean to doubt your experience.
i can see you are experienced.
been here in PN and VPForums for15yrs.
from all the yrs i have been here there are members here with a wide range of PC from low end to high end.
VP has come along way over the last 15yrs.
15yrs ago requirements were not to demanding even in the new VP9 in 09.
i was able to play VP9 with my old low end 05 Compaq with an AMD 2.2 single core without a card.
it worked when i first started in 09.
then i bought a cheap GT220 back in @2010 for $89+tax.
it was not a gaming card but it worked in the compaq.
i upgraded awhile back to something better with an 8core FX with a GTX560
and another PC with an i5 with no card yet.
the GTX560 i have plays VP9 ok but seems to struggle with VPX in my PC.
so now i'm at crossroads again.
i need to make some new decisions.
do i get a new card or find something used that is capable of playing VPX and FP.
**i just wanted to know if i needed it for the new VPX and FP tables and if i dont have it will it help
improve performance.
i have not bought anything yet.
that's where i am at.
so what suggestions do the gamers with a decent PC recommend for a card for VPX and FP????

I don't know anything about VP but FP is pretty graphics heavy. When I got a newer model of graphics card when my old card failed, I saw a dramatic improvement in FP's performance. You can get away with a lower end processor on FP. I would stay away from an AMD processor. I have read many people with AMDs have trouble playing FP. I would go with Intel.

I don't know if you should replace your PC or get a new graphics card. I suppose it would depend on how good a graphics card your existing PC can support. The GTX560 is pretty old. It came out in 2011. When I replaced my graphics card, I was told I wouldn't be able to upgrade the graphics card again and would have to get a new PC.

hey george, thanks for the input.
i have a plan but i will w8 for now.
i know the 560 is outdated.
maybe i will update to a better updated card.
i will think about what you or anybody has to say.
thanks

You will need a new card of 4 GB minimum and a processor of 3.7 like

AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Processor (6C/12T, 35MB Cache, up to 4.6 GHz Max Boost) with Wraith Stealth Cooler

very good value on Amazon at this time

ok, thanks..........

Like I said I would get an Intel processor because you won't be able to play FP on an AMD processor.

Well I might not be remembering properly. I am probably thinking of an AMD graphics card like the problem reported here:

well george, i had this PC built new in 2013 with the GTX 560 and AMD 8core.
it's new out of the wrapper last year but it is 12yrs old.
didnt have vpx yet.
i have another PC with an i5 if i need to move away from the 12yr old AMD.
nobody has given any advise.
not using any frontends.
just VP9 and VPX VP launchers on desktop.
i installed the allinone installer with VP9 and VPX in local/C last year.
vp9 works ok.
VPX works....plays slow.
can't make changes in VPX desktop editor for flippers, tableslope or just about anything.
it's stuck on whatever it was out of the DL while VP9 is functional and able to make changes to game play.
what do u recommend for a card in Nvidia so i can catch-up and get the VPX desktop launcher to work and maybe FP later
when i get the right card that works?
what card r u using?

I don't know much about hardware. I have learned the CPU and GPU have to match. I rely on the place where I bought my PC to do upgrades. I have an Intel i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40 GHz and an NVidea GeForce RTX 2060. The CPU was first manufactured in April 2012 so it is pretty old also. The GPU was first made in 2019. The place that installed the new graphics card said that I would need a new CPU if I ever wanted to upgrade the graphics card again and if I were to replace the CPU, I may as well get a new PC. I still don't have much trouble with it. I can play TerryRed's Star Wars table without any trouble. I don't plan on replacing it anytime soon.

My thinking on PCs is to buy the best there is in the store so it lasts a long time. Buying a lesser PC will make it not last as long.

i think my PCs are capable.
i have a 4th gen i5 from 2014..
i don't want to spend $400 right now on a card.
i don't want to throw money at a used card.
probably be lookin' for new one sooner than later.
its like rolling the dice crap shoot because these cards get hot.
i don't know its history.
could have a lot of hours on it, maybe running hot because of poor cooling and overheating.
looks like me stayin' on VP9 with my GTX560 until it burns out then ill make a decision.
ok G, i feel the same about used electronics...., thanks 4 the reply.......
