Help with my first pin - updated

Hey all,

Just bought and set up my first pin (street fighter 2). Had to remove the backbox for travel and turn cabinet on its side (no choice). Got it all set up and I'm having an issue. The machine will illuminate but that's it. Seems the lower isn't getting power. Back of the manual says when this happens the possible cause is a blown power supply fuse (f5). Went and pulled that fuse and there's a small crack in the glass of the fuse. (pics attached of back box, fuse box, and f5 fuse). The pic of the backbox, the two top most lights are solid and the control board light is flash flash flash pause flash flash flash. The fuse crack can be seen under the left side of the wire.

I guess that crack could cause failure? I did a little research and it didn't seem like the glass contained a gas or anything. The fuse wire itself seems ok to me. I'm going to run to lowes now to pick up a replacement fuse. I'll put that in and hopefully that fixes the issues. I'm really posting here just in case the fuse isn't the issue.

Any help or advice is appreciated!! Thanks

Fuses can look good and still be bad . It's best to test them with a dmm.

so with the cracked fuse above in use, i'd have some lit LEDs in the back box. when i left the fuse spot empty there were no LEDs lit so i don't think the fuse is bad. i also swapped out the fuse for another on the play field and got the same result as the cracked fuse. Some leds lit in the back box, buzzing sound on speakers, but no boot up. So I'm pretty confident its not the fuse. any suggestion where to look from there?

When you bought the machine did you play it first before taking it apart and was it completely working?

Thanks for the reply. I played the machine for awhile and it was 100% working. It had been on display and playing for the day before and the day I bought it with no issues. A bit of an update. Issues being faced:

Game illuminates but doesn't boot. LEDs on the boards are as follows:

Solid Light on Sound Board
Solid Light on DMD Controller
Flashing / Pausing Light on CPU
No Light on Aux Sound Board

I checked all connectors that i previously disconnected and im certain everything is plugged back in. as recommended, a friend and i took a dmm to it figuring there was a power supply issue. Unfortunately we think we're wrong. The power supply is outputting 5v fine and all the boards were getting power.

EDIT: we also dmmed the fuses and all were working fine.

We decided to try and take on the CPU board first and saw online the battery can sometimes cause issues. Metered it and it was working fine. We then read that the U6 chip can also cause some of the issues. We metered it and my friend blew the chip out. So we took a step back and now we're not getting any lights on any of the boards. Ordering a new u6 and going install that to hopefully get it back to where it was. Then i'll probably going to call a professional. Any help / advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

Street fighter 2 is a system 3 machine that has a ground problem that needs to be corrected. see pinrepair site for explanation of ground mod and other info.

Are the proper number of balls loaded in the machine and all trough switches closed? The tilt and slam switches and circuit(s) should be checked. Do you have any luck running any self diagnostic tests? When in doubt and asking the pinball gods for divine repair interconnections...Wiggle, re-connect and re-seat IC's and everything else that pulls apart, has a connection, goes in a hole or plugs in to something...!

Hey so just and update. Got professional help. He checked everything and fixed a couple minor things. But we're back to the same problem. There's GI but the CPU doesn't start. I'll attach a pic of the boards. We've checked connections, tested power, fuses, all we could think of. My pro said he's gotta do more research and try and contact friends. In the pick, the control board LED is blinking three times with a pause. All other lights are solid. No LED lit on the aux sound board. Machine will beep once on start up. No DMD display or power to anything but GI. Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thx

Apologies. That pic is rotated incorrectly. The left side is the top.

You should check out pinrepair.com section on system 3. It have lots of great info to check into your problems.

yep ive been using that. my professional used it as well but said it contradicts itself quite often.

Edit: I also, today, sent a email to the author of that pinrepair guide. Hopefully he can shed some more light on my issues.

I see from your pic that the battery hasn't been changed yet. If it's the original battery it's 20 years old. You said that the voltage tested ok but the watchdog chip also looks for amperage available from the battery.

Ya so when the pro opened it up he immediately thought the battery was an issue. He took the CPU board for further testing and said it was good?

B2S server.exe Version 2.5.0.320 How can you make the B2SDMD stay on Visible. Make it the default instead of hidden. Did new install of 10.8 final have many tables I would have to open to change to visible instead of hidden. Any help would be much appreciated.

@ejrcooney Try right clicking on backglass with mouse pointer, and you should see B2S DMD Visibility setting at top of window.
