What the FUCK does the actions of a president over half the country (yeah, the opponent won the popular vote the first time around at least and not too far off the 2nd time) did *NOT* vote for got to do with REAL Christianity???? I got a good laugh at that Venezuala guy's speech the other day. Bush is no better than the people he's trying to hunt down, IMO, but what does that have to do with Christianity? For that matter, what does the Middle Ages have to do with it either? The Roman Catholic Church is a pagan mixture of false doctrine and desire to rule the world (power). Neither aspect is following what Christ taught. Most of these "health and wealth" churches aren't following Christ either. In Christ's time, the main religious leaders in Israel were the Pharisees and to a lesser extent, the Saducees. BOTH were just as health and weath churches are today. They are falsely using religion to gain wealth, prestige and power. That speaks about people, but it does not speak about God just as false 'followers' of Christ today do not speak about what Christ actually represents.
Islam isn't totally different in that regard. Most of the extremists are following or creating false doctrine in Islam as well. But like the Roman Catholic Church in the Middle Ages, the *ONES IN CHARGE* (overall speaking), are the ones teaching the false doctrine and spreading this warped version of "Jihad". This is WHY in the United States, we have separation of Church and State. It's because this country was FOUNDED on the principle of religious FREEDOM. That means you are free to believe whatever the hell you feel like here. Christianity, believe it or not, is NOT the official religion of the United States. And just because the current President (who is on his last term and will be gone in a couple of years period) might happen to be a right-wing religious zealot in his own right (seems more political and personal ego based, IMO than anything to do with religion, though), that does NOT mean he in ANY way represents "Christianity" in general.
Unlike Islam, which has only 2 factions, Christianity has dozens of denominations and variations for the simple reason that people cannot agree on interpretation of scripture. Many versions (including Catholicism in general) have BASTARDIZED the original teachings of Christ by introducing information that does not belong (e.g. a good example is the Mormans, where they added their own book; Christian Science is another good example. Catholicism added pagan traditions in their ceremonies and oral doctrines that are NOT found in the Bible anywhere).
To me, "Christian" means a follower of Christ and a large number of people that call themselves Christians are NOT Christians at all because what they believe is not what Christ taught at all.
Now I think I can say those things and not be worried about some "Christian" coming to try and behead me. If this were 1100 A.D., I WOULD be worried about that. I CANNOT say the same about criticisizing Islam because they are largely TODAY like the RCC was in 1100 A.D. There are far too many radicals out there. So while there might be a few "Christian" nuts (that bomb abortion clinics, etc.), there are a *LOT* of Muslims that would kill you for just being a Westerner, let alone for any other real reason. They would kill you in a heartbeat for speaking poorly of their prophet, BTW. In fact, almost *ALL* of them would do that. Even famous ones like Kat Stevens supports KILLING *ANYONE* that speaks poorly of their prophet, regardless of whether we believe he is who he claimed to be.
Personally, I respect EVERYONE'S right to believe whatever they want to believe. In return, I expect the same. But while the U.S. supports that very belief of mine, Muslim countries do NOT and WILL NOT support the right of ANYONE to believe whatever they want. They want to FORCE their beliefs and views on you. They want to force women to be 3rd class citizens and treat them like property! I, for one, find that to be an abomination. Women deserve equal treatment and everyone deserves free choice. So frankly, I think ALL their governments should fall because they are a THREAT to Western society, namely democracy and the right to believe what you want to believe and make your own choices in life. In short, they are a threat to FREEDOM. Hell, when the Muslims take over Germany and force you bow to Allah or cut your head off, you might think differently about who is the real bad guys in this world. Spreading democracy is not spreading Christianity. It's spreading the right for you to choose for yourself what you want to believe. In that regard, I don't think Bush's intents are all based on "evil". It's his methods that don't work.
If so-called Christianity was a threat to that freedom like it was in the Middle Ages, I'd be against it too. If you've read the Bible, you know full well God supports free will in that book and so no one can tell me there is any justification for trying to force anyone to believe anything.
Only little children try to bully others into doing what they want and to thinking like they think. These people need to GROW UP and learn that EVERYONE should have the same rights they afford to themselves.
Religion has to be one of the largest causes of CONFLICT in this world throughout history. If you don't believe as I do, I will make you believe or you will die. THAT is the attitude you see throuhout history again and again and it comes down to people thinking they are right and you are wrong and you aren't allowed to think differently.
The difference in the here and now is how certain religions try to achieve those ends. Most "Christians" (true or not) are pacifists in that regard. Islam is much more hostile along those lines. You are not allowed to leave Islam. The punishment is DEATH. So once you've converted, death is your only release because you are not allowed to change your mind. Some Christian churches might ex-communicate you, but you are essentially doing that yourself by believing something else. Islam says you must die if you don't believe any longer.
But I'm sure you still don't see any difference, Phoenixx. I'm not surprised.
