I never said source material is so damn hard to come by. I said it's the shit. That means if you have good material you can make a good table, if you have bad material you can't. Still, you're a fool if you think good material is easy to come by.

Yup. This issue is why certain authors respect other authors more than someone like PD.
While PD is trying to break speed building records with his pristine resources sent by a fanboy or somebody else he won't give credit to, some people are doing complete redraws or working on tables that have crap source material (or virtually none, as kurt mentioned), yet making them just as good as a PD table or better, maybe much better.
Of course, this takes time, talent, and work. Thus you can't release a table a week this way and pretend you are a VP god and get a following of clueless fanboys that can't tear their tongue out of PD's ass cheeks.

Some that stick around the forums a little usually figure this out. I thought PD was great, for about a few weeks, then realized as time went on that other people were doing much more impressive things, using crap resources and making them shine, trying all sorts of new and different techniques, not recycling templates and graphics over and over, getting better via listening to comments, and these kinds of things.
Sometimes it takes being an author for a while to see which authors really have the passion and talent.

But at the same time, leechers shouldn't care how a good table gets made.
Sucks that the clueless ones think PD is the VP god because he can put out a table every week or two.
But if PD shared all his resources like some other people do, the whole VP scene could be entirely different.
I'm sure he's hung onto great resources for certain tables as others are publicly searching for resources of these same tables. PD probably watches these people struggle for months fixing up their crap resources knowing he has material to make their table 10x better and easier.
But no, PD will wait and use them for himself because he might plan to build it as it is on his list of 300 tables to build.

Yeah, this is all speculation. But when you see PD build tables so fast with nice resources that nobody else seems to have, you start to think this way.

So for the sake of argument, you could argue that PD has hindered more table development than he has created.
You know he has a buttload of resources, he has admitted as much, but I don't recall ever seeing a table made by somebody else via PD's material.

Personally, I admire those people that struggle through long tedious wips, that search days for resources, spend weeks in photoshop.
That is the stuff I like to see.
I have nothing against good resources, I just like to see people build the tables they truly love even when they don't have the best resources for them.
I'll take good resources if I can get them, but that has only ever happened for one table I've been involved with. Middle Earth, because I actually took the pic myself, even that was an angled shot and it wasn't the best as I'm no photographer. This was a table I really liked, I actually traveled for hours because I knew I could get a shot of this table, took the pic, went home, built the table. Of course, I played a few other pins before I left.
Everything else usually starts as a lowres flyer image or a flawed, glared, angled, populated shot. I've even done a bit of redraw work lately, quite a bit.
But I love working with that stuff as well. It's not a waste of time when you can make something good out of that. It makes you a MUCH better author.

Sigh, same old shit. I complained about pretty much the same thing, people keep stuff to themselves for no apparent reason other than either lazyness, competiton, or just out of spite. Never figured out which one. The thing is, that was 7 years ago.

It's not going to change. It will still be the same small group that will share, has been for years, and will be for many more. Rob sent me the missing 2 plastics I needed, posted about, and was generally ignored as people were more concerned about talking about some members damn dog or something like that. Say what you will, but at least he made the effort. Talk is cheap isn't it, but ultimately, actions speak a lot louder.

Because he actually took the time to zip up and send me 5 images, which must have taken him a whole 5 minutes of his time or so, that is the only reason any of you will ever see it. I have a lot more layouts already done, but missing one thing or another. I asked, no one answered, so simple math.

Don't think that doesn't affect other projects as well? I don't think you will need much brain power to figure it out for yourself that it does.

You really don't need super high quality shots either, it really depends on the author. As Rob pointed out, some of us do end up completely redrawing everything, but even for those like that, we still need that one good shot for reference every once in a while.

Of course, if someone has a 8000 height image of a perfectly shot stripped playfield, I certainly wouldn't turn it down. :)

He also runs down every author who has given him permission to mod their work, pointing out how much better his version is than the junk the other author did. Of course he'll deny all this, but the proof is in any of his release posts.

What makes him 1000 times more annoying than the Dude is that he thinks he's perfect, and that his opinions are Gospel. And now we find out that he treats his girlfriend, if she really exists, like cattle. Rob has no respect for anyone, which is why practically no one has any respect for him.

PS: Played Space Station today...for 2 hours...and what a fantastic table that is. This from someone that claims to have made a table from scratch in one day (Harlem Globetrotters was it?) and yet BITCHES CONSTANTLY about how awful it is that he can't get permission to rip off other people's work and how it's too much fucking bother to start over from scratch. And trying to play the no credit card is just plain fucking STUPID. Look at any number of my tables and you'll find the credits in the Table Info section. Look at TZ's history file and you'll see I went to great pains to give credit for every little contribution. Man you're a fucking idiot. You have NO FUCKING CLUE what I do to make tables so you assume from a few WIP tables that they're all using NOS playfields and plastic scans?? Have you seen the source material I've worked with before you opened your mouth? Of course not. I've reconstructed entire playfields and removed all kinds of shit off flyer and photo images. You'll not that there is NEVER any wire ramps or other crap on my tables because I edit all my source material. Maybe 1/3 of my tables had blank playfields. The rest were photos or flyers that needed a lot of work. Even ones with NOS playfields still need other images and those usually need work. And how do you think I animated the toys on Road Show, for example? I didn't have video footage. They are hand-animated. And that was before I had Photoshop, even. I used the free open source Gimp software to do it and M$ Paint for pixel editing.

Seriously, if you're going to flame, at least use some lines of attack that don't make you look like a total fucking idiot. Do a search on Cactus Jack's to see what I started with or Cactus Canyon or Big Bang Bar for that matter. They were all made with flyer scans or top-down photos with the ramps still in place, etc. Cactus Canyon is a good example because of the sheer artwork detail involved on the playfield. Even tables like Monopoly and Sorcerer had the reverse work done (overlay modified to have proper wooden parts, etc.) Medusa's playfield was constructed from 4 seperate photos at different angles with plastic in place and yet it looks PERFECT, probably my best looking table at that. ALL my tables have hand-crafted backglass artwork backgrounds on them. These things don't make themselves, Rob. You don't know what WORK is. You haven't made jack shit for scratch tables that you should even be able to open your damn mouth.

What resources haven't I shared??? Find me an author that asked me for SPECIFIC resources that can say I refused to send them an image or set of images or sounds or whatever or at least point them to where I got the image from (very common given I get most of them from public web sites). The TRUTH is that authors don't grow on trees, especially ones that can make entire tables from scratch and not look like crap. The Kurts and JPSalas' of the world seem to be quite rare as far as VP authors go. I've been here since almost the very beginning and I've pioneered a LOT of techniques and even made my own fading light system from scratch. WTF have you done that's INNOVATIVE at all???

Every table I've ever made is unlocked and open for inspection. I made a light system that is not only open, but documented and even has a tutorial table on how to use it even add your own handlers. At least a few people have decided to take advantage of it and not re-make the wheel. I spent a lot of time making that system efficient and yet hugely flexible. And few would deny what a difference it makes in a table that properly uses it to full effect with full bulb bloom, etc. Hell, you should know that yourself. Whose light system are you using in Middle Earth? Who helped you get it working? Hell who helped you with the high score system? I believe it was Kurt and myself. An INGRATE is what you are. When have I asked YOU for help by comparison?

If someone asks me how I do something in a table, I tell them. I don't keep secrets on table making, Rob. Find me one person that can truthfully state otherwise.

What I see is someone who comes into an existing long-standing community, mods a few tables and then portrays himself as God's Gift to VP and then goes off into huge books of flames when someone disagrees with ANYTHING he says and writes those flames in ABSOLUTES like everyone agrees with him by default because he's always right. I see someone who pretends to be his own brother even because no one else will support his BS and LIES.
