Well, Now Marijuana Causes Cancer, or So They Say.

I've tried most, never really got hooked on any, it was mostly a thing you did on a night out on the weekend. In my 20's speed was everywhere, it was rare that I ever paid for any, knew a few dealers and often at the nightclub, which I rarely ever had to pay admission, it was "hey Steve, coming for a line", then off to the John. ;)

Actually never really felt much of an attraction for it, just to me it was like, hey now I can drink forever and not get wiped out by the alcohol. I use to get cheap and/or free drinks at The Firm nightclub also.

LSD, now I really did like that stuff though that was a once in a blue moon drug and usual at an invite only party with the whole crew indulging. To me it was hell yeah this is value something that really makes you go and see stuff! Did have it once a week or so once, though that's pointless it's effects do fade quick with anything near regular use.

Chased the dragon a few times, smoking heroin heated on a sheet of foil, through a rolled note, it really does knock you around, the urge to spew was almost instant and did happen, though I never really could handle the buzz it gave, it was like OK that's me done for the night.

Now cocaine, only tried it once and it's just as well as it very expensive, also a rarely available drug here, that stuff just made me feel like superman, scary and dangerous.

Ecstasy, tried that several times, great if you had a girl hanging off your arm, though otherwise it could be either a good time or just a bit sad.

Mushrooms, blue meanies tried them a few times once a year when in season, they where great fun, like the LSD and again it was always with the crew, alone I'd imagine that might be not so good.

One thing I always refused to do was IV drug use and glad I did, to me experimentation with drugs was for me just about having a bit of fun and I always felt just hitting some shit up is not giving your body any chance whatsoever.

Though when all is said and done it's only marijuana that is useful as the occasional recreational blast these days and I rated it above all else then and now. I suppose once or so a month I might have a toke or three.

Steroids can be mentally very addictive drugs. I've taken them... again to boost my training. But it was just "experimenting" a few years... I got bored of the whole thing eventually... I'm into different sports now. And being very heavy isn't healthy when you pass the magic 40.

But if you're serious about bodybuilding or want to be huge, you have to take steroids. Period. No one is going to be big and vascular without drugs... it's just a sad fact. Being big and fat is a different thing... a lot of lifters boast how they're 300 pounds and all that... so what... they're FAT.

Steroids get a lot of bad press because bodybuilders take a lot of other bad things which are 100 times worse... like Nubain, growth hormone, painkillers, speed, diuretics and even insulin... those can be dangerous.

Two moderate, well planned cycles per year aren't going to pose any kind of health risk for a healthy, grown up male. I'd say smoking cigarettes is more dangerous than good plain' old testosterone. Everything is bad when you go overboard... like one aspirin cures the headache... and the whole bottle will kill you. Even too much salt is fatal.

I don't know why people have to lie about their steroid use... or be ashamed of it. I know an older guy (in his mid-60's) who has taken steroids for 40 years. He looks 15 years younger than he is... and is very healthy and active person. He'd run circles around most people half his age. Test has really been good to him. Don't believe the propaganda... steroids aren't the evil that kill people.

PS: It's funny how much crap they're selling to young lifters... all that supplement business. I've known many top lifters and none of them took any other supplements besides protein powder and some occasional multivitamin.

what's really sad is that i've only seen hoffman in about 5 - 6 films... and haven't even watched "capote" yet. oh well, at least i have a lot of good films ahead of me.

pretty heartbreaking, though... to be sober for 23 years then get persuaded (i imagine) to try a hit at some party or whatnot, then be dead within the year with 50 bags of heroin found next to you.

so last night i couldn't get to sleep. around 3AM i tried some valerian root capsules for the first time in ages. recommended dose was five 450mg caps, but i went with three to be conservative. well, worked great for sleeping, but it's now over 15hours later and i'm still groggy as hell and can't stop napping.

yes, over-the-counter valerian from the pharmacy's vitamin section... damn.

Amazing thing about Hoffman... I've never heard of the guy. But then I don't watch too many movies these days.

First I thought Dustin Hoffman was dead. :D

did you see...?

boogie nights
the big lebowski
the talented mister ripley

he's been in a lot of good films the past couple decades.

Nope.... I only watch lesbian porn flicks these days.... and most of them in fast forward.... searching for the highlights. :D

oh shit... they have HIGHLIGHTS, now?

sure, and i'll be a motherf-cker. :)

I thought they all went to bare floors

Speaking of drug users here's Elvis Presley's last drug coctail... amazing... when he took a piss those days I'm sure it was all radioactive green.

The painkillers Morphine and Demerol.
Chloropheniramine, an antihistamine.
The tranquilizers Placidyl and Valium.
Finally, four drugs were found in "significant" quantities: Codeine, an opiate, Ethinamate, largely prescribed at the time as a "sleeping pill," Quaaludes, and a barbituate, or depressant, that has never been identified.
It has also been rumored that Diazepam, Amytal, Nembutal, Carbrital, Sinutab, Elavil, Avental, and Valmid were found in his system at death.

Codeine converts in the system to morphine.

Diazapam and Valium are the same thing. I guess I kinda doubt the veracity of About.com on their list of drugs inside the King, although it's safe to say there was one or two. I remember a page in The Book of Rock Lists by David Marsh where all the drugs Elvis' infamous physician "Dr. Nick" prescribed to him were listed. It took up a whole page of the book, somewhere between 50 and 100.

That's All Folks.

Last August my doctor wrote me a prescription for pain...Two(2) 5/375 Mg Percoset..

i read somewhere that the root of elvis' drug and food binges was basically panic. the celebrity singer / karate expert was less and less able to deal with fame... and of course the psychotropics and pain meds worked less and less well, as they tend to do.

one of the articles that talked about PSH's heroin addiction at age 22 stated that with sufficient usage, you basically rewire your brain permanently to never feel as much pleasure from life events, and that the only way to temporarily break past that is to have a heroin relapse. i suppose something similar happened to the king.

another figure i learned something new about not too long ago was marilyn monroe. her acting teacher lee strasbourg apparently said that she was one of his two most talented students of all time, along with marlon brando. that's some incredibly high praise, obviously. but one of her co-stars in a production famously said that before she had to go in front of people, he had a chance to look her in the face. what he saw there was raw, primal terror.

throw in michael jackson, and maybe jimi, janice and jim, and perhaps you have a case for highly-talented people who, at a deep, instinctive level, go in to flight or fight mode and can find nothing better to deal with it than self medication. a fairly old and well-known story, of course.

That's about normal for pain. I don't like Percoset or worse, Percodan. I don't like to get a head change from pain med and these do that for me.

Here you can see Elvis performing in Vegas. Colonel Parker put him through HELL... his schedule was too rigorous. It's obvious that he's high here... just look at him.

Elvis just before his death... if you look at this video you'll find it obvious that he was a superb musician who (mostly) wasted his great talents to relatively crappy & cheesy songs. This is pretty good performance though.

Not saying he didn't record some very good music (In the Ghetto, American Trilogy, etc.), but most of the songs in his career weren't anything special.

Funny how everyone's saying he was so fat... well... not really. Just fat like most average guys in their early middle age. He looked bloated and sick though... but he wasn't THAT fat, really.

many of elvis' songs may seem crappy and cheesy by today's standards, but i consider that a poor description in the context of his time. there was nobody who sang like him nor performed like him, and he did it in a relatively new musical form. that's special... a game-changer.

i still listen to his early albums every once in a while and they still have a unique magnetism and zip, even given their simplicity. oh, well... everyone's got their sacred cows, tho.

Fame had nothing to do with it. It might have been the fear of losing fame,
or it could have been the waking up every morning with the aching bones.
I remember a story about Elvis turning in The Beatles to the FBI, after asking to be an agent. Sounds like pop storytelling though.

"fame leads to fear. fear leads to hate. hate leads to the dark side, sleepy."

if elvis had been able to summon the lightning bolts, everything might have been okay!

Did something happen to Elvis?

still alive.

i think i might be willing to trade my danelectro for his jazz hollow-body, though!

He's channeling Elvis...

I can't find Audley's piano anymore. Else I'd go after it with my two fingers.
