what happened to VPforum?

does this mean whats his face will be banned from here in the near future also?!

vpforums.org reminds me of the CBS logo. I'd say after the numerous failures of the past years an alternate site would be necessary. While PinballNirvana is ok, I still find it difficult to navigate, sometimes the downloads and organization is slow to get to where you want to be, and the site has always had trouble storing cookies on the computers I use here. Hopefully the org site can be streamlined and host all the vpm tables and roms that vpforums had access to. I really liked the ability of showing all the tables and roms for download on one page in alphabetical order. It made it real easy to find a table and get it to your hard drive. I also really liked the old upload system - just having to type in the table name, author name, and if it was a new or updated table. Pinball Nirvana requires a bit more work on that front too.

I'm sure

......he would cry a river Bob.

I feel bad that Shocky doesn't know we are all currently banned from VPF. His last activity here was: 12-16-2008.

:dammit:

I always said the more forums the better, but I totally agree with Nic and Yogi's posts.

Personally, I've been using the time to update one of my tables and I'm thrilled with the way it's sounding.

I noticed that sometimes my username is not displayed at the top left corner of the home page ("hello unlogged user") but yet i am logged in.It is also a bit slow here from time to time but overall it is fine.

Nic, Noah and I had a very long discussion concerning this point and the point you've raised earlier in this thread when Noah first proposed this to me.
good man.

For this community to grow, it will require newb-friendly tutorials. The VP community has a shortage of them, and the best people to compose them are the members who still remember the difficulties and overcame them.
well said and i totally agree.

I don't think Noah is an idiot, so I'm pretty sure he knows the risk involved. Trying influence his spirit by patronizing his attempt doesn't feel right.
i'm kind of left speechless by this. as if i called "noah" an idiot or patronised him. *shakes head*

I'm a VP cheerleader because it still is the best way to play pinball on the PC.
then why don't you take that energy and do something useful with it? try to help the scene in some significant way if you want to be a cheerleader. i started doing that in concrete ways back in 2002, so if you want any advice then feel free to ask.

I didn't say there are more authors now. There are more quality releases.
no. what you really mean is that the quality of releases is much better now than it used to be 5-6 years ago, something which is true of almost anything that involves innovation and advances. quality volume was provably higher back then.
"quality" as in "quality for it's time."

Also a small community with nice people is better than a big community filled with Shockmans. Generally I like the people here, and the people that left the scene lately weren't mr/ms sunshine. Can live without them.
there were also many more people who left because of problems with the scene who were great contributors, innovators, and so forth. i will not forget such people and appreciate what they did to help make the VP experience a great experience for everyone.

frankly you come across as yet another guy who has been reaping the benefits of the VP scene for a long time and are blissfully ignorant of problems in the scene as long as top re-creation authors like jpsalas are still around making some tables for you to play. you care about what's available for your needs here and now, just like all the other lurkers and semi-lurkers. but when that eventually dries up, chances are you'll just move on effortlessly like a ghost in the night to your next hobby of choice. what do you care for all the hard work that people put into the scene to make the VP project such a cool thing for you to play with? yea, i'm sure you can give lip-service to VP and say you're a VP cheerleader but what is it you actually intend to do to help? make a couple of forgettable posts on a secondary forum while the main forum is down?

Don't sweat it, I didn't feel patronized.

I know I haven't been HUGELY active, but I feel this is my opportunity to not only give back to the community for all the enjoyment it's given me, but to help take it further.

I just had the idea that I want to build an image and sound database and allow members to upload resources for table authors to have for years to come.

I think everyone would find that beneficial...

Look at me...

I only asked one newb question at VPF, and with the response, it took a year and a half for me to post again. How can you build a community like that? For this community to grow, it will require newb-friendly tutorials. The VP community has a shortage of them, and the best people to compose them are the members who still remember the difficulties and overcame them.

:appl:

What about a direct link Phoenixx Visual Install Pack & Yogyholzer homepage, (with their respective agreement of course), at an obvious, easy to find position .
The VIP solved all the installation & setup troubles I had when I first discovered VP/VPN

Oh wow, sure is hostile in here.

The McD

Oh bloody hell! Yes a link to the VIP would greatly help all newbies, I concur. :)

*pops into existence*

Is there anything I can do to help? I've got a number of years' programming experience, perhaps some MySQL organization? PHP? Perl? Anything at all? Underwater basket weaving?

I posted a link before... to all those who did not check it out, it is a mirror of wayback machines internet archives and it works, just make sure to copy the address instead of clicking it, it comes up in a different layout. The earlier backups are all good. The addy is... http://web.archive.bibalex.org/web/*/vpforums.com/*

Thanks

Sorry, everyone...
VP forum, how will the resume?
It is feared that the body is broken...:verysad:

'Dead But Not Dead'

It's a Forum.
Members make a forum ..
It's what you 'put in' .. 'comes out'.

TedB, I surely have some tutotials at a Premium RS account .. will upload the links soon ..

VPForums hacked & destroyed .. dbase completely trashed .. a shame! Loved it over there!

What happened? guys

Blimey! What a crowd here.

Even if VPForums is trashed, it should be backed up somewhere! So, even if the day it was hacked is maybe lost, the rest should be reinstated, once the hack etc is removed and the appropriate controls are in place to stop a re-occurrence.

I have the same problem with this site

This site is also hosted at The Planet and last year there had been an explosion at the data center "The Planet",it happened early june 2008 and afterwards the site was down for a day, perhaps the same thing happened to VPForums, some of you might remember of that.

Yeah, but in our case it's been down for "days".

And usually stuff like that doesn't cause those Miss America shenanigans.

I actually still wonder if that was the end of VPF. I wonder if it's kicked the bucket for good, or if AJ just didn't notice yet.

The McD

He probably hasn't noticed yet. The guy has never been active on the forum and visits once in a blue moon or less.

I doubt he'll be bothered either way.

There's probably a backup held that may be resurrected one day. But for now PN is our home. Some peeps have never left here but the postings are few and far between. That's sad because Jon is a great host and a nice guy to boot - he's put a lot into making PN what it is and continues to host our hobby, pandering to our every whim (well you know what I'm saying) :)
