I think everyone is getting that now, it had a copy of the miss america website for several hours this afternoon. Seemed like a copy, you could use the 2 different IP addresses for vpforums and missamerica and get the same pages, traceroute went to different places so it wasn't a simple redirect from one server to another.

Marty
did all the links on the copy missamerica site work or just a copy of the main page?

Yes, I should have noticed that this afternoon...

It's really strange then. How could the vpforums server at 75.125.131.242 and in texas have had a copy of the miss america site (in MO?)? And it wasn't just the main page, all the sub pages I went to on both were the same.

If it was a hack the hacker did a heck of a job.

There was a banner at the top of "the vpforums missamerica page" for something missamerica, but when I clicked it the browser returned a "page not available" error.
Might have been a missing redirect page in the copy?

If AJ is connecting to theplanet through sbcglobal, that might explain it.
SBC is a major telecom in California.

And why would a hack just copy the America site and not put there own call sign up?

The banner at the top of the real missamerica.org page does the same thing.

Could it be a router issue with SBCGlobal?

A hacker would know how to redirect the host site to another site. Perhaps this is what happened here.

I guess, but all the relative links were redirected as well (you could put in the vpforums.com IP address and all the sub pages would still have that address), so it still would have been a lot of work, but I know lots of the people that do that sort of thing have a lot of free time. Odd that a hacker wouldn't leave a calling card, but I didn't look at every sub page...

Okay, I admit that I'm no expert when it comes to the Net.
I did pull up a list of sites which share the same IP.

[/b]
[/list]

OK, so it looks like there is some serious hacking going on, probably at The Planet servers, including the DNS servers....

Probably someone that just got fired....

Marty

Is anyone else having trouble pulling up the www.vpforums.com archive at www.archive.org ?
I keep getting a "connection failed" message when looking up the forum URL using The Wayback Machine.
Can somebody try the link and let me know if it works for you.

I did a little searching but couldn't find out if the miss america site is hosted by "the planet" and somehow got copied, how else could a copy end up on the vpforums server?

I see this as hope vpforums might come back, if there was a fire like there was (last year or 2 years ago?) only this time the servers were lost, now new hardware is online but something obviously went wrong with restoring the software today...

Speaking of "The Planet",i am a member on a wallpaper/photos site,i also posted photos on this site.
http://www.caedes.net

This site is also hosted at The Planet and last year there had been an explosion at the data center "The Planet",it happened early june 2008 and afterwards the site was down for a day, perhaps the same thing happened to VPForums, some of you might remember of that.

Well, mrschultz may be on to something. Theplanet owns the IP 75.125.131.242
except I think we've been hacked from someone pissed at vpforums. I looked up each of the websites that share the same IP with vpforums using The Wayback Machine.
Only vpforums.com's archive is missing. The others are available.

a few days ago the host that i have my site with got hacked and the DNS were re-directed.

click a link to my site and get some pro-Hamas site ... it was wild.

If AJ isn't checking on the site often it could be a few days before it gets sorted .... maybe longer.

...It is considered very bad conduct, and that is really the only problem i have with this as this is considered to be disrespect de-luxe. And must it really be that way? If you would at least call it 'NewVPForums' or whatever, that would make perfectly clear that it is a new site not related to (or officially meant to replace) the original VPForums...

I'm disappointed that you don't see the respect to the community.

@ Bob - This has already come up, and I see no need to upload every table, either. It will be a fresh start, and I do hope you'll share your tables with us. They are damn good and would be a tremendous contribution.

The upload interface I'm putting in will be easy to use and allow editing and updating by the uploader.

...or we could simply make Pinball Nirvana the main VP site

It is here
it is already set up
we all have accounts here
Jon cares about his site
Jon is a cool guy
Jon is willing to listen
Most of the tables are already avaliable from this site

JPH for the win ;)

we checkked that just before xmas
AJ had not been active on the forum since September (?)

yeah me and bob were discussing the "Supporting Members" thing,
since AJ hadn't been there how were they getting added etc.

I guess there were no recent donations to the site so there was no need to add people,
and if there were donators I am sure we would've seen posts asking when they would be updated.

But truth be told, AJ doesn't have to actually sign in, in order to check on the site.

It's really sad to see what some will do to destroy another's joy and happiness. Shame the hackers can't put their talents to a CONSTRUCTIVE use instead of a DESTRUCTIVE one.
