What is up between PN and VPF???

I have to bring this up. I have tried and tried to understand the logic behind all of this.

Currently, my status at VPF has dropped from VIP to regular poster. All my posts have been deleted. Fine, but I need to find out more about this.

First off; NO SWEARING, NO BS; NO BACKSTABBING. NO RACIAL OR INFLAMMATORY REMARKS. Simply put, DO NOT POST if you plan on being a putz about it!

I need answers. This is the ONLY WAY I'm sure I'll get them.

I do not know the full story behind the loss of AJ's VPF. I realize Noah Fentz did take VPF under his wing. I commend Noah for that. He worked hard and long to make VPF what it is in his vision.

Now I realize I've been gone from the scene for 7 years. I come back and the hatred between PN and VPF has spiraled. What is up? I can see all the hateful, spiteful and just downright evil posts to Noah. I admit I said a few things that I am sorry about. I have apologized to Noah personally via email.

The issue is this; why the lack of respect for Pinball Nirvana when it was JPH that welcomed Noah with open arms when VPF was down and being worked on. It seems to me that JPH deserves more than a paltry amount of thanks. If it wasn't for ShivaSite and PN the repositories for VP would have been lost - even helping VPF become what it is today.

I need to know what is going on. I may have been rude, crass or just plain indecent but I cannot fathom the totality of all the sillyness. I need answers. I want to mend this hatred between both sites NOW.

If there is any info you wish to share with me, do so HERE - POST IT. But remember do NOT do anything as I said from the above. Be respectful about this.

Keep this topic ON TOPIC. If it goes off topic, I'll have tiltjlp remove posts. I want the truth folks; not lies, not anything that can be used as slander and the above.

If you happened to try to remove one of your downloads by rendering it useless or replacing it with a blank file. Then that can get you banned.

VIP status is a privilege, it can be taken away. Some people are VIP's, but only one title can be displayed, so it may say Silver Supporter, rather than VIP.

I'd say you are too fucking dramatic to have access to the uploads. :)

It doesn't look to me as if any of Will's posts have been deleted. Althought he isn't listed as a VIP, now, but so what? I'm listed as a VIP, and have no idea who decided, or how it was decided, that I was a VIP.

Are you sure your posts are being deleted? Sometimes the search engine is buggy, and then there is the "search flood limit" in place where you have to wait a few minutes between searches. I just want to make sure.

I do not know the full story behind the loss of AJ's VPF.

No one knows. AJ just up and disappeared from the internet. His business, his other websites, all gone. There was a thread last year where some people tried to track him down and at least see if he was still alive, but I don't think anyone ever found out anything.

The vpforums.com domain expired back in august, is now listed as being owned by some guy in North Carolina. From everything AJ said in the past it's hard to belive he gave up the name.

I seems to me a "this is us" and a "This is us" attitude. I thought VP was a community thing? Everyone enjoying the game. Sharing the game. Playing the game. Sharing posts and etc....

I do remember in the past we had some really heated arguements but it seemed ALL the forums in one way or another got along. Tell me if I'm wrong?

NO ONE and I will repeat NO ONE is holier than another. I don't care what forum it is - what site it is. Some forum or site might be better at certain things but who cares right?

I'm just wondering if there are a few folks that are making this look more worse than it is? I don't know.

Anyone else want to take a crack at this? I'm too damned tired right now.

What's to get? Conflict, egos, jealousy, competition. It's nothing that just now happened, and nothing to get worked up about. It was not I reckon, an us vs them thing, but probably a dispute between a couple of key guys. Most members here are crossover members.

I don't know what caused the heat between PN and VPF.org. I was gone for a year or so myself.

Things aren't bad-bad, but sometimes it doesn't look too good.
The thing about A.J. is that there was a server crash reported at his dallascowbowstalk website and there was no backup, so that assumes the fate of vpforums.com archives as well, but obviously doesn't explain his disappearance. Nicolas B. *I think* tracked down that he might have been in the midsts of a divorce settlement, but that is speculation.
Nick did find out that A.J.'s house was up for sale. This was confirmed.
The Dallascowbowstalk website later returned to the Internet sans A.J. Vpforums.com did not return. At that time, I sent an e-mail to the dallas site asking about vpforums.com and AJ and received no reply.

I have no idea why he would delete the Variety WIP thread, but
maybe Paul is reading things into your last post about the Rollet project that are not intentional?

There is a problem with the story of not having a backup for the websites.
Vpforums.com vanished on a server crash with no backup system after there were at least two incidents of vpforums.com being hacked. The first hacking took the forums offline for several days. By the second hacking, A.J. had implemented a backup system and had the forums back online within 24 hrs.

There is a possibility that A.J.'s server and system suffered a power line lightning strike which could explain losing both the server and the backup.
EDIT: Or, there never was a backup system installed and members of the forum, including myself, were misinformed. The first hack could have been limited to the front pages while I seem to remember the second hack was a porn thread hack and only needed cleaned up...???

I remember there being talk that the company where AJ had his servers had a fire and an entire floor of servers was lost. If the backup system was on the same floor it may have been lost.

Of cource even if there was a remote backup, it doesn't matter if there's no one around to do the restoration. Last time I searched the net was last winter and there was no sign of AJ being active anywhere on the internet, unless he changed his identity it's very strange that he would dissapear like that.

So when you see people saying stuff like AJ choose to leave they are talking shit, no one in the VP community knows what the hell happened to him.

VPF.org would have come, no matter what

Visual pinball needed a breath of fresh air, Noah has provided that
He and his team have put in some good work and have made a professional site

But I am not going to judge his moderation, that is up to him, to moderate how he sees fit.
Moderate well, and the users will be happy
Moderate poorly, and the place will be a ghost town

I have not spent enough time there to call it either way

But no matter how he does it, it is impossible to keep every member happy

Noah's site while having had many people disagreeing with the name has swelled to over 24,000 members! so the moderators there must be doing something right! There are quite a few of us who frequent both sites. I am one of them and I see no reason NOT to be friendly to each other, after all it is PINBALL we all love, not a site with a name we may not prefer! I put my tables onto both sites as there may be some people on either site who don't or won't visit the other. I really just wish people would grow up and just get along, but not everyone can, so we will always have this kind of friendly animosity going back and forth...oh well... que sera sera
