What music are you listening to?

OK, now this one's a surprise. Forgot about that and only hear the song at a cousin's house that brought the single (if my memory is not fuzzy) from France.
She's portuguese!
Yes, she's from Mangualde!
(dang, good memory!)

In fact she's four years older than me, but we actually lived in the same city (Bruxelles) for a year (I was two, she six). I moved on to the States while she stayed, going on to become a popular French-language singer.

Anyroad, I like her light-hearted, low-key, playful singing style.
It reminds me of childhood, and working with kids as I did back in Philly.

A good bag of that somehow reminds me of The Sundays Harriet Wheeler:

I'm french so I don't post french singers (OK Vanda Maria Ribeiro Furtado Tavares de Vasconcelos aka Lio born in Portugal and lived in Belgium is a french singer). But as you post Lio's songs, two of her most success (in France).

I honestly don't get it. She sings like a kid so they dress her up like one. It is all polish and no substance. She's like Taylor Swift and Britney Spears. She is like Lady Gaga used to be, who actually appears to be trying to do better. ...But then maybe I getting too old.

Swifter then swift, more gaga gaga than any lady... :rockband:

And live...

Reminded me of a band my nephew turned me onto.
Dragonforce. The fastest band in the world.

And if you ever want to annoy people...
Crank this album and it will more than likely drive them mad!! lol
Used to listen to this almost everyday!

Though fire and flames by Dragonforce... Guitar hero... played it. Could barely pass this one on medium difficulty. Just insane!

I don't think you're wrong, but maybe have some love for the bubblegum pop genre?
I mean, the stuff's not necessarily trying to create artistic messages, moreso just to charm you with simple pleasures for a few moments in this harsh, complex world. Not unlike the Archies, eh?

That said-- personally I like LIO, but I'm not sure how many of her hits were very good, musically. Speedy Gonzalez and a couple others were great, but I'd agree that a lot of the others were 'polish over substance' like you say.

In terms of French songs, my knowledge isn't great, but I prefer old punk rock like Ça Plane Pour Moi over most of LIO's songs:

I've never been very metal outside Led Zep, but that's some cool shizzle right there.
Cross-cultural fertilisation and all that.
Hell yeah! :trampolin:

Cool, man!
As an old man* it's a bit too much energy for me (like poking a knife in to an outlet), but that would have been some nice music for my old intense gaming days of Q3A, etc.
Yeah!

* CFS/ME pretty much helped me feel that way since my late 20's, sad to say

I actually like the Archies song. I believe it is technically better in that the voices sing in harmony.

Looking at the Archies video above I was reminded of the video below. Why? I have no idea. The brain works in mysterious ways :D

Oh rabbits, I know what you poor, suffering folk need--
it's Captain Picard, wearing a straw boater, singing a psychedelia version of the ABC's!

Um... umm... ummmm... okay, here you go...:
