What music are you listening to?

Lol...

I'm sorry Canada-to-USA still counts as an international exchange (as I was just bitching about to Bob @Gimli the other day). I've a feeling we'd have some pretty hilarious / interesting convos, if not. Bah...

> brought up in the 1980's. It's either classic metal, or stuck with disco or new wave. Not much of a choice there.

Now hoowoold on thar, Babba-Looey!

Because (keeping in mind that I'm just some dumbass)-- when I got bored of the 80's, I went back to the 70's. When I got bored of the 70's, it was just right for the Technicolor Web of Sound (recently relaunched, yayay!!). And there's Pete, and there's repeat.

Indeed, I went up on stage last Friday and sang "All of Me" in the key of "Louie Armstrong," and I was amazed by the happy reception. And that was a song that dates to... like, ~1930?

But also, duderino-- altho yeah, on-air new music is pretty much a toxic wasteland, I recommend everyone check out modern "Indy Pop" when y'all get a chance. Like, there's PLENTY of awesome, fresh new tunes in every style, the further you get away from the ad / corporate model, yknow?

I'm actually rebuilding my vinyl. I have tons of flac, but enjoy the tradition of the process to playing vinyl. Getting a good collection though, got the 2021 record store day picture disks of the first 2 black sabbath albums with dio, heaven and hell and the Mob Rules. Hope they release the final 2 next year so I have the complete set.
As for headphones, I have a set of Klipsh and a set of 1more triple drivers for ear buds, both highly recommended, and a Audio Technica m50x studio headphones, which are great for pro audio as they don't color any sound, they just play exactly what is coming into them, unlike a lot of brands that bump up the bass to cover up their treble is crap (cough Beats cough) Good enough for me, all of them as good as you are going to get for less than 200 dollars

I can't say I have any Black Sabbath though I do have a fairly large collection of music. In fact, I was just listening today to this track on my iPod today that almost never gets any air play today on the radio:

I have a set of Klipsh speakers for my home audio system, but didn't know they made ear buds. I have a friend that just bought a Klipsh subwoofer. I do have the Shure SE535 ear buds with 3 speakers that I really like a great deal. I don't understand why Beats is such a popular brand of ear phones. Like you say, the treble is terrible. I have a few record albums that I don't listen to very much. The convenience of my iPod is just too great. Maybe I will dig out some of my old vinyl and give it a play tomorrow. I do miss the artwork that grace the larger album covers.

Oh yeah, that's a classic on Philly radio, and we're far from C&W territory. Huh.

Here's my new favorite when it comes to thet. Heard this one?

@Isaac Sauvage

The xylophone animation was done by a group Worthikids, from what I have seen it seems to be their best effort.

So the Music a bit too rocking for you? I thought it was great with duelling guitars and that woody under tone. :)

Me, I'm inclined to like most kinds of music, though not a fan of heavy metal that sounds like white noise or opera, if you want to go there.

The whole analog vs digital, now I know there is that difference, though for me, it's not a difference that I feel inclined to spend clams on.

The last new listening for me was this audiobook and it was excellent!

Andy Weir - Project Hail Mary

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company

I saw the whole movie. I have a friend that loved it. I thought parts of it were funny.

@StevOz,
If you mean the first song, I liked the xylophone bit, but that general brand of overdriven, power-chord heavy 80's rock (the singing style too) is something I've basically spent a lifetime trying to escape.

Not trying to be a snob, just that I never happened to care for it, and what was worse, I had to hear endless amounts of it because it's what seemingly everyone around me was listening to for a decade and change, so to speak.

That said, I was both relieved & thrilled when pop-rock tastes finally shifted, and grunge and alt-rock kind of took center stage in the 90's. I want to try some Chili Peppers, Spin Doctors & Nirvana in future, on k-nights. Can do a half-assed version of this one, hopefully to be improved as my voice technique progresses:

Love this thread, I have a bunch of vinyl and would appreciate any suggestions for hardware and software digital backup solutions.

I have Sennheiser headphones and still think vinyl sounds better, sometimes, I'll miss a scratch on a perfect source....:shaking:

For the past week I've been learning about car stereos these days, had to replace a 07 Ford with a newer car and it has a stereo system that's blowing me away, one of the 2 owners bought a JVC that's 5 years newer than the car. It has a backup camera, plays dvd's, bluetooth and other stuff like Stripe, Pandora and Iheart radio that plays in the car stereo from a phone.

Blowing me away..?️

I have quite a few songs by the Cars in my collection. I have a 2 disc set of their best songs.

Tough job this skelton gig...

Far as I know you can do'er any of three differing ways:

1) scan the vinyl in a flatbed at high resolution, then use specialised software to interpret the grooves (I'm not kidding), or 2) manually play the vinyl, and use RCA (etc) to "1/8 cables that run from the turntable to sound-in jack on your PC / sound card, or 3) just download the sucker, since 99% of the time, someone's already converted it (usually from CD) long... long before you.

I have quite a few songs by the Cars in my collection. I have a 2 disc set of their best songs.
I like to perform Ben Orr's "Who's Gonna Drive You Home" sometimes. Never actually tried an Ocasek tune. I think maybe I can pull off the voice, but no idea where to start.

Anybody hit me with an Okasek tune and I'll give it a shot.

Enough people have now asked me for audiovids of my karaoke nights that I'm finally working on recording the fun / embarrassment for posterity. :p

Man! Every once in a while I'm just blown away by one of the C64 remixes. The way someone takes a dated, mediocre, 8-bit .sid tune (in this case something you'd hear while Green Beret slowly, painfully loaded) and reinvents it as a song which I'd wager the greatest album-rock bands in history would be thrilled to have in their playlist. Would make a killer, hypnotising concert tune, too.

Anyway, here's the guy putting the tune together, with footage of the original composer:

And here's a free download of the finished version:

This is what the original .sid tune sounded like, hehe:

@StevOz, ever hear of "Cyriak," i.e. Cyriak Harris in the UK? He does some trippy music & animations, like this one, "Circle World":

Edit: wow, perfect timing? :o

mmmm..not come across that @Isaac Sauvage. I'll give a look see.🙈

*edit after tuning in...

Interesting animation somewhat surreal and imaginative, seems inspired by the Mandelbrot set, don't care for the backing music much..

Ah yeah, Tom Willett, i.e. "Featureman." I didn't know he was still around, actually.

Hmm... looking at his YT channel now, he seems to have moved on from cowboy songs to... reviewing fast food and frozen food? oO

Anyway, superb song & animation; thanks for sharing! :-D

I just added 34 albums from Santana to iTunes. When I tried to sync them to my iPod Classic (5th gen, 160 GB), I found that it would not connect to iTunes. I read online that when someone asked Apple that had the same problem, they were told Apple does not support the Classic and to buy a new iPod. ...So I am now looking for an alternate to iTunes that will sync it. Any of you guys had any luck finding something that works?

Does this work?

If not--

Generally when I've had issues like that (it's been some years!), I bypassed the built-in menu / connection system and instead used basic Windows Explorer or a file-menu utility to grab the music content right from my HDD and copy it right to the appropriate directory on my MP3 player.

It's a pain at first because you're used to using the automatic menu / interface that pops up when you connect the MP3 player. Because with the way above, you'll need to snoop around or research what the exact storage directories are on both your computer and your device.

Incidentally, the same principle works for any type of media / files with any kind of device.

I don't have any Apple products tho, so your mileage may vary.

Yeah, well-spotted. I agree he threw some Mandelbrot aesthetics in to that one. I don't remember him doing that before, but hey.

I also kinda agree about the music. I do like his creativity, but he seems stuck using sound tools from an old... Sinclair 8-bit, or something? Not sure why he hasn't branched out over the years, even just using the primitive stuff as a base, like the Reyn guy above did with C64's Green Beret.

If you have the patience to watch one more of his, this is sort of the prequel video to "Circle World," and it's a little more... disciplined I guess is the word.

@Isaac Sauvage

Intriguing video, the music seems more fitting in this one if somewhat jarring, see a lot of Frogger with a hint of Star Wars in this one. I wonder if that's his teddy?

In order to get to the syncing check box identified in the video, you have to click on an icon in the upper left corner of iTunes after you connect the iPod. The icon does not appear when I connect my iPod. so no go. I do get the icon when i connect my iPad which iTunes still supports. ...So I am sure there is no way to sync my iPod using iTunes anymore. I have been working with Media Monkey that says I can do it. ...I will see if that works.

Alright, I don't mind saying this took me right out of (right in to?) left field:

Dark Side of the Rainbow – also known as Dark Side of Oz or The Wizard of Floyd – refers to the pairing of the 1973 Pink Floyd album The Dark Side of the Moon with the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. This produces moments where the film and the album appear to correspond. Members of Pink Floyd have denied any intent to connect the album to the film.

I am not certain what I enjoyed more, listening to my favorite band or revisiting a movie that was ahead of it's time.
Both are excellent!!
Who ever mashed this together was either insane, stoned or a genius!!

So can I have a go at this, with some old ozzy music!
I listen to all types of music from 50's to now.
But just wanted to share some old ozzy song's that you may not of heard before, cheers!

Now for an aussie band that maybe even @NitroNimbus has yet to enjoy?

Insurge a bit of a 1 great CD release band Power to the Poison People, they rocked hard and every track on that album is top notch and the lyrics are just spot on.

To be honest, I don't usually go for this sort of thing but I have to admit there is something to it. ...But I think I would still rather listen my Yes albums.
