What's the last VP game you played excessively?

Wow... gotta admit that this is a good looking original. I'll download it.

You put a gate in that return lane on the right - lose too many balls up there on Asteroid Annie? I quite like Asteroid Annie, played it in the tournament and it's a great game. That right outlane is a bit nasty at times but I remember a few machines like that. The mod you made looks very nice.

I keep playing the games that I remember from my childhood: favourites include: Hot Shot, Jack in the Box, Greywolf's Captain Fantastic, Wizard and Alladin's Castle; PacDude's FirePower and Centaur (played a real one about a month ago - a Centaur II in ok condition). Both of PacDude's reproductions of those early SSs are fantastic. I have also been playing a variety of games from the 50s and 60s. I played a real Bank A Ball the other day (absolute bliss - it is in great condition) at Pinball Faith. I then played it on VP but I do love that machine. When I feel like a challenge I play 2 1960s machines: North Star and Beat the Clock. Check 'em Out they are awesomely difficult.

Mainly lately I have been playing the machine I'm currently working on: Rock Ola's World's Series. This is a really hard game to score on, I can barely score a run. It should be out within the week. I need to do a few more things and playtest it. I have also played my repro of Wild Card a bit lately, I like those late EMs, quite deep rules without being ridiculous.

Wow... you've been around a long time and you still don't know how to install VPM?

It's not difficult. What's the problem there? I'll help...

Being around a long time doesn't automatically make you any smarter. I'll have to check and see if it's working right now, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I think part of the problem is I forget to disable a utility I have called Zip Magic. Other than that, it's just a matter of not undersanding the technical side of things.

John

The "Being around a long time doesn't automatically make you any smarter" thing cracks me up, tiltjp has learned 2 different html systems in the past few years, John can learn anything!

Get rid of ZipMagic, It was the best program for VP a couple years ago.
Remove ZipMagic from add/remove programs in control panel
Extract any VPM table into your VPM table folder and enjoy!

Has anyone "completed" Addams Family? Can you even go through all missions in that?

Once I blocked off the outlanes and put a bumper below the flippers. So Yes, Yes I have.

Ahh... I'd never do anything like that. I still haven't completed ToM yet... I managed to get to the final mission but screwed it up.

I never cheat... although it's very tempting sometimes... but it takes the fun out of achieving something (when you finally do it).

You wouldn't believe how hard learning new things becomes as you age. And the saying about use it or lose it is very true about html. Dreamweaver was the hardest of them al to learn. As for Zip Magic, I actually removed it the proper way, rather than just deleting the file folder like I usually do. The boring and time consuming part is extracting all those VPM tables.

John

What's so time consuming? Download all the tables into one folder... then surround the zip files (or "select all") and unzip everything to your tables folder.

Great idea, wish I had thought of that. Like I keep saying, I'm not very tech minded.

You have learned more than i have at your age!
kristian is correct, you can unzip more than 1 file into your Tables Folder.

Yikes, Never delete a program by deleting a folder, All traces of ZipMagic need to be removed from your system, it was Windows 98 technology and was wonderful but screws up stuff in xp.

I didn't think you were pushing 59 yet Jon. The problem isn't so much learning new stuff, it's not being able to concentrate as well as I used to, and not being able to remember things as quickly or easily. Still, all in all, I don't mind turning 59. And after a lot of screw ups, I always remove stuff properly.

Is it too late to learn how to quote just the last post? 8)

Glad you enjoyed them John. Scorpion, Contact and Stellar Wars might be something that you'd like... they're all large and slower paced tables.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give them a try.

Probably. But I'll try to do so in the future if it'll make you happy.

Indiana Jones. Before that, TZ, but I missed the DCS sounds of IJ too much and went back to that great game :)

I know this thread is getting old, but (having been away for awhile) I couldn't help but add:

John, you're hd is only 18 gigs? Mine was down to 18 from 60 before I finally bit the bullet and got into vp...and now it's down to a bit over SIX! How can you possibly fit all of YOUR tables on there, let alone anyone else's? LOL! (And I'm beating off with a stick the temptation to d/l fp, and leering somewhat evilly at those who've decided to rec games in only fp...not to mention any names, "ahem, ahem.")

By the way, the only "Who Dunnit" I know of so far was made by KC, who removed his tables a few months ago...

...and Oz, you DO realize that all of Gopal's tables are just old EM's done over with new artwork, right? (Not to take anything away from that...he does a wonderful job, the tables are gorgeous! Don't know if he actually makes any changes to the games, though.)

(It occurs to me that if you didn't know that, you probably don't give enough credit to the old em's...try them sometime!)

(And it now occurs to me that maybe that sounded rather condescending if you do! Sorry! Still, if you don't...!)

Yes tudnut, I did know that Gopal uses old EM layouts, so does bob btw. ;)

Though both make significant changes and IMO improvements, actually the changes Gopal made to the rules and gameplay are quite remarkable, so I did, remark. :)

Actually been playing an old EM recreation of late by Gottlieb, Spirit of 76 (beta4), it truly is the most authentic VP table recreation I've ever seen.

A friend bought me the computer, so I really didn't feel like I could make any suggestions about it. Besides, except of my word processor and a few puzzle type games, there's nothing on my computer other than VP and FP tables. And I still have 7.9 GB free.

John

I stand humbly corrected regarding Gopal's tables, Steve (not that I was taking anything away from them in the first place).

Dam! Now there are 6 MORE tables I'm gonna have to get around to d/l'ing and trying out!

I bought ZipMagic (v4.0) in 2000 when I had 98SE, and still use it to this day with XP-SP2 Pro and have no issues. I rely on it heavily for VPM tables – right click the .zip file, “Open with ZipMagicâ€, select the file(s) and extract to the proper folder.

First computer had no hard drive, the second one had a 20MB hard drive.

That 20MB just didn’t happen to be a Seagate ST-225 did it?
