Btw, I just read some really sweet GN's. One was called
Angel Wings, about a gal who flew missions during WWII.
So... notwithstanding the fact that I fell head-over-heels in love with her by the end of the first album, I thought it was really cool how (talkin' about bellies) the dark underbelly of war was depicted. The writer (Yann) really pulled no punches, and it made the work all the more respectable, commendable, and that sort of thing. In other words, he made our gal Angela go through the grime of being disrespected & even abused, multiple times, but never breaking her spirit, altho there were some close calls!
Incidentally, part of why I like the "Chick-A-Ball" thing is that it's similar art compared to what fighters had painted on their planes by guys like me, using enamels. To be clear-- guys like me would stay on the ground & help fix the planes, while the true heroes would fly them and battle the enemy, like Angela did.
Still, that was also kind of a motivation to do extra-killer art on the fly-boys fighters, for example around the nose, where we painted monstrous sharks and so forth, next to the tally of enemy kills, and of course, right next to gorgeous babes.
The thing about Angela is that all those graphics were hardly needed in her case.
