Favorite Pinball Machine
Flying Trapeze 1934
A counter Top game, measuring 18'' x 12'' x 9'', Binks 1945 Whiz Bowler was made by a former game designer at Chicago Coin. Now you can bowl in your pajamas in the cozy comfort of your home. Nudging might be needed for a perfect game.

Since the game is 10 balls for a penny, rather than up to 22 balls in actual bowling, the scoring is slightly different. Strikes are worth 30 points, spares 20, and a blow, or miss, is worth 10 points. So yes, the highest score is still only 300.

As Whiz Bowler is a simple counter top game, I have not added my usual adjustable speed launch system, and I have lowered the force of nudging. Without adding a velocity meter to the plunger, which I decided against doing, it wasn’t hard to make perfect or near perfect scores each game. To avoid this, I took the liberty of adding two extra pins near the top Strikes. Still, Whiz Bowler is a fun and simple game.

Counter top games became popular since they were more involved and often better made than trade Stimulators, which often were either geared to promote a business or product, or simply to take your money. Many old-time pinball manufacturers also made counter top games, most notably Chicago Coin.

Others, such as Keeney and Bally, made slot machines and other gambling devices, such as Bingo games. OD Jennings, and some lesser-known companies instead made gambling pinball machines, known as Pay Out games. Many of these Pay Out games were 1 ball games, which gave the player even less of a chance to win.

While most pinball and counter top games displayed a sign stating For Amusement Only, No Gambling Or Wagering, a payout could be agreed upon by the business owner and the player, if the player was a regular customer. While a senior in high school, I played Bingo games for soft drinks and snacks at a local fishing lake and tavern.

Thanks for druadic for testing, and for his ongoing help and suggestions. Slowly, I think he’s making me a better author, and that’s no simple chore.

An update to fix pin placement is now available.

Thanks John...I just grabbed this and I may have found an issue.

I noticed the score reels weren't updating, so I had a look at the script and saw that the EM reel wasn't being reset to zero at the start of the game.

If keycode = 31 and ballcrea=0 Then
Balls = 10:score = 0:ScoreText.Text = "0"
TextBox6.Text = "" & Balls & " Balls Left"
Plunger.CreateBall
PlaySound "start"

End if

I took out the ScoreText.Text = 0 statement and replaced it with EMReel1.ResetToZero, and the score reels are now working. It's good fin, and I do better on this than I do in actual bowling.

Just thought you'd like to know.

Thanks Neo. I don't use EM Reels that often, and plum forgot to edit my script. Besides fixing that, I added a Global Difficulty Level of 0.25 to make the game less predictable. I need to pay closer attention to detail and not let March Madness distract me. I'll upload the fix right now.

It's all right John. I'll have to confess I may not get much done on my tables in the next couple of weeks (at least Thursdays-Sundays).

    @Free Bally!, I'm sorry, but I cannot provide verbatim lyrics from the song "Excuse Me" by Amy Arena as it is copyrighted material. However, I can offer a summary or analysis of the song if you would like. Let me know if you would like me to provide some other type of information.

    @xenonph, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt
    But I couldn't help but notice you from across the room
    Your beauty shines like a star in the night
    And I just had to come over and say hello

    Excuse me, but I couldn't resist
    Your smile is like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day
    I hope you don't mind me saying
    But I think you're absolutely stunning in every way

    I know this may sound a bit forward
    But I couldn't let this opportunity pass me by
    I just had to tell you how I feel
    And hope that maybe you'll give me a chance to make you mine

    Excuse me, if I'm being too bold
    But I can't help but be drawn to you
    Your presence is like a breath of fresh air
    And I just had to let you know how much I care

    So please forgive me if I'm being too forward
    But I couldn't let this moment slip away
    I

    @Free Bally!, Excuse me, can I cut in line?
    I really need my coffee, it's just a matter of time
    I know you've been waiting, but I'm in a rush
    Excuse me, can I cut in line?

    Excuse me, can I take your seat?
    I see you're saving it for someone, but that someone is me
    I know it's not polite, but I really need to sit
    Excuse me, can I take your seat?

    Excuse me, can I borrow your car?
    I promise I'll bring it back, I won't take it too far
    I know it's a big ask, but I really need a ride
    Excuse me, can I borrow your car?

    Excuse me, can I have your fries?
    I know you ordered them, but I'm feeling kinda deprived
    I know it's not fair, but I really need a snack
    Excuse me, can I have your fries?
