Maybe there is something that I need to know about Torrents, but Popcorn Time is a p2p app. I searched for cult films that surely someone would have on their computer.

I searched for "Cannibal Holocaust". No dice. I searched for "Woodstock" and "The Wall" And "Rocky Horror Picture Show" None of these had a result.

I even searched for "The Walking Dead". If this app is a true p2p, I can't believe that NOBODY has the season finale of it on their system.
NOBODY?

My next search attempt will be for "Breaking Bad". If that ain't available, then I smell a Rat.

And for Damn Sure, Hell No. I've been burnt by Hollywood too many times by my own family. I'm not watching any of this stuff, but I am fascinated by the tech and the audacity, and the very, Very Strange lack of the usual cult favorites. Yeah. I think I smell a Rat.

I bet all those movies are available. I just checked Woodstock and Rocky Horror Picture Show, both had active torrents.

It's not enough for someone to just have it on their system.

You have to come up blank with kickass and piratebay before you can say they (anything) might not be available.

I think The Pirate Bay http://thepiratebay.se/ is the best place to start your search for torrents. I use Bit Comet to handle my downloads cause it is always improving. The original Woodstock is coming in now @50Kb/s with 100% availability but only has 2 long term seeds. There are several Rocky Horror torrents. One has 76 seeds!

not that i torrent these days, but there are some global search engines for such that return pretty rich results. what exactly is the object of searching single sites for results, even the mighty pirate bay?

In a nutshell quality, YTS rips are all always a cut above the average, bakabt likewise, always well seeded, with nyaa you get to know the various fansub groups and their qualities, also they are the first to release new animes. As for TPB, if you can't find it there, it most likely is not to be found anywhere else.

For me it's trust.

okay, i see.

one other issue i haven’t heard about lately is media lawyers putting pressure on ISP’s to shut down torrenting users. going by complaints i’ve heard in the past, it used to be if you downloaded a bit too actively, you’d get a letter from your ISP threatening cut off.

wow, interesting spearhead of a ruling. so that was two years ago... i wonder how practices in other nations followed suit?

maybe this is why i haven’t heard of letters being sent, recently.

In the UK, SKY & TalkTalk, two of the largest ISP's have blocked all direct access to Kickass, TPB and many others. But there's always a way around that. Hidebux and hidemyass.com to name but two.

Yify torrents are very good but are restricted to stereo sound. If you want something better in the sound department [eg DTS-HDMA or TrueHD] then it has to be torrents.

I still remain unconvinced about any sound system alternatives to a quality stereo set up.

Probably not heard a ripping system then ;)

Really and just where in that room do you have to be to know how ripping it is?

Right in front of the sub woofer perhaps?

Almost anywhere centrally in the room - it's never good to be sitting next to a speaker [same rule applies to stereo] whether a sub or a surround effect speaker.

Speakers one side, people the other, even outside, Yeah that's how it works...;)

How many ears do you have?

speakers are just an attempt to re-create an original audio event, so it makes sense to me that the better setup will make a difference.

btw: i'm still ecstatic about my little bose soundlink. cost me 200+ quid, but well worth it. only the size of a book, but wireless, portable, houses six speakers, loads of bass. i have it sitting on top of my couch and it uses the wall as a huge bass reverberation board.

can't believe how it fills up the whole apt with rich sound, but it does.

A stereo can never duplicate the enveloping sound of wading on the shoreline or a mass flock of seagulls. It can do a reasonable job of representing voluminous sounds, but it will not have the oomph or shape
or ambiance of a good discreet surround recording.

And nothing beats the quality of playing a track by The Eagles with the harmonies appearing cleanly from behind. I've also been meaning to buy the DVD Audio surround version of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road before it vanishes from the market, for the same reason.

The only drawback with surround and those living breathing qualities of instruments and voices and shorelines and winds and birds is the lack of skill at recording the sounds, the limitations of the equipment, else the recording was remixed from mono or 2 channel tracks.

I have my subwoofer in the near center of the room, at a point behind room center, to reinforce the bass response from the main channel speakers. A bass wavefront is much larger than others, so that works out given the room's dimensions.

so there it is.

I see GYBR is now available in 5.1 Blu-Ray. That'll be my next pursuit.

Where To Put That Subwoofer...?

I like this trick to find a good location for a subwoofer. Place the subwoofer in the location where you sit. Play something basey and walk around the room. when you find a suitable spot where the base sounds best try the subwoofer there.
I have to agree that DVD multichannel sound trumps Stereo CD's hands down. Even in two speaker setups DVD sound is amazing.

Sometimes that even works with mp3s. If you have sound software, try upconverting the sample rate up to redbook 96 Khz. and above without antialiasing enabled. I did that once with a low sample mp3 of Sgt. Pepper and the result was remarkably sonorous. Or maybe my Windows mp3 codec wasn't so great at decoding the low samples?

Eh...popcorn..TVMC...;)
