Well, I don't know about that. I clearly see your point, and from a members/community, it makes sense. But somewhere along the way, that very much conflicts with a user's personal rights to privacy. Our own society is filled with examples of this, whether it's medical information and in many cases legal info. I'd challenge when it comes to certain transmittal diseases, that for the good of the community, it should be public information. Of course, society probably disagrees with this opinion, but see my point?
There are no perfect answers. D/A's aren't made silent for the sake of confusion, they are silent in respect to the members affected and as stated, are very much in line with what's out there.
As to the "family friendly" comments. I think you guys gave me too much credit with that one. I didn't invent that term, it was used previously by AJ, and because of some of our clientel, I happen to agree with it. But the fact is, the site owner decides on that policy, not the admins. If AJ would have stated "swearings ok", then that's ok. not my first choice, but it would have been ok.
Additionally, I do think there's a portrayal of admins having no authority. That is blatanly untrue. Case in point is the change in requirement to request posting privs. AJ had nothing to do with that period. We did send him a note with a "I'll assume no response is approval" and he in turn answered back something like "ballsy move, but I approve, go for it".
The true limitation re: admins is really one of a technical measure. There is only so much we can do with respect to improvement of the site, such as fixing/updating screenshots, etc. Any decisions that impact authority is fully within the admins powers, as long as there isn't a technical barrier.
Shiva: not starting a butting heads contest here, we'd both end up with headaches. I agree with much of your comments on AJ, but not all. You've read the staff forums, so you know where we agree. But the fact is, your position of negativity will never make the community go forward. When the going gets tough, it's time to roll up our sleeves and work harder, not keep attacking. If you *have* to fight a battle, fight the right one that can have a positive effect.
