Well whilst you funnay guys were playing charades I actually contacted the real AJ and VPF has just been moved to a new server at the hosting company... Dual Core Xeon which should last for another couple of years, the old server as you have probably seen over the last month or so has basically kicked the bucket and crashes many times a day! in AJs exact words.

Now that's real progress for ya.

LOL,...yeah, i kinda thought the same thing.

Could become THE new filesharing craze,...

EDIT: Link now points to another thread since AJ has moved the forum back to the old server, thereby setting the threadnumbers and their corresponding URLs back to before-yesterday state. Thread will be reposted once the forum move is completed.

More than likely, he didn't chmod the files after he transfered everything, so it will be set to standard server permissions, at 666. More than likely set to full admin permissions, but not to anyone else. Be just read permissions, but no write or execute.

Guess I'm not the only one that's a bit rusty at server stuff. :)

Actually the error message states that it is a problem with the database, meaning it is not giving an access denied.

So i think theres probably something screwed up/corrupted in the MySQL part, since the avatars are screwed up badly as well,...

I've done that mistake. The other may be he has it set to his old ip number, and didn't replace it with the new one when he got the server. If you have a domain instead of the number in the database, no problem, but if it's the number, then it would be changed when he moved to a new server. That's just a easy search and replace in phpAdmin. Remember doing that one as well. :)

I thing 95% of all web admins do that one actually.

I think AJ does use the domain, because i remember the last time when he moved the forum we all had to wait until the DNSs catched up with the new address.

Besides, if he would have the IP in there, and he would have kept the old one after moving the content to the new server, wouldnt that mean that the whole forum had 404ed?

(I dont know how that is with forums, im using my Linux server only for file/data storage and occasionally P2P so i do have some knowledge but it is limited.)

I just saw his post. he's having problems, he's trying to upgrade the forum, and I guess that front end is killing it from what he said.

To be honest, It's been many years since the forum was upgraded, not even sure how possible it is, with so many changes in between. Don't even know if such a old version would even work with the latest versions of php and mySQL, so he may have to flip servers halfway through it. Yikes, glad I'm not doing it. :)

And the moral of the story is... never keep putting off something that's a small thing until it becomes a BIG thing. Another lesson I have learned the hard way.

then again, he did change providers around the time he did the site upgrade IIRC.

I'd say give it 4 days and suck it and see.

My best guess is this is a monthly quota issue or something along those lines.
