How did you like that movie / TV show / book?

Just bumbled upon this list. Some of this stuff I'd never heard of, particularly Jerry Lewis' accomplishments. He's come off like an arrogant asshole on occasions, so it was interesting to get a counter to that.

The style is a little 'gossip-column-y' for my taste, but oh well. Highlights:

RandomVintage
Hedy Lamarr was a genius inventor who fled Nazi Germany & invented frequency bandwidth hopping, which is the technology that makes the WiFi you are using possible as well as all missile guidance systems in the military.

Jerry Lewis invented technical innovations such as video playback, which is used on sets mostly for dailies, taught university film making & meticulously crafted his comedy in synced time to all sound events, often working with musicians to compose scores that brought out timing that worked comedically.

Leonard Nimoy was responsible for securing rights for every entertainer’s personal legal rights of their own physical likeness, taking his case all the way to the Supreme Court.

Jackie Coogan, known as Uncle Fester of the Addams Family, was responsible for securing the rights of child entertainers & protection from financial exploitation, especially from their own parents. His ex-wife was the one & only Betty Grable.

Each one of these very ordinary people had some very extraordinary aspects to their lives that were highly interesting & well worth researching. Either way, these people affect our lives today very profoundly- but none more than Hedy.

Many of these legends built the Hollywood system as it is presently & in many cases saved it singlehandedly, such as the founder of Universal Carl Laemmle & Charlie Chaplin (insisted on relocating film making from the insane violent Thomas Edison in New Jersey to California away from his brutal goons that regularly smashed up any studio that dared operate outside of the Edison monopoly) who co-founded United Artists for independent filmmakers & The Academy of Motion Pictures. Without Chaplin & his partners, there would be NO Hollywood at all or film making as it is presently known.

Somehow YT semi-randomly suggested a show to me the other day and now I can't remember what it was, exactly!

But here's what I remember:
(maybe someone can figure this out)

- Australian-made, produced a few years ago, like ~2015
- live-action (not a cartoon)
- parody-tribute-satire of low-budget action / spy series
- mock 60's production values
- the head of the agency who sent the five heroes on their missions strangely had an eagle's head(!)
- the smartest member of the team was a bodacious blonde who nobody took seriously, mocking rampant, entitled male chauvinism
- lots of visual gags, like one character saying to the blonde "relax, baby," then using a special gun to shoot a cigarette in to her mouth, causing her to immediately calm down (lol)
- ran for at least two series
No idea on that series suggested by YouTube? Cannot think of any Australian series that is even a near match, not that I watch a lot of TV here.
Finally figured it out. I just typed "eagle-head boss sci-fi series australia" in to google and bam, Robert's your avuncular figure. No idea why that didn't work a couple months ago, as the series has been out for years.

Anyway, it was Danger 5.

I just saw the new Top Gun movie tonight. Definitely the best new movie I have seen this year and I am crazy about Dr. Strange.

I am sentient.
How sure are you about that, on a scale of 1-10?

Been getting into The Orville of late, the rom/com of Star Trekking with many LOL moments for me, can hit warp factor 8 and cruises at factor 7 for me.

I've heard the title before, and for some reason always kinda assumed it was a modern American C&W show, like an updated Hee-Haw or whatnot. *Yecch*

Turns out it's a SF tribute/parody, etc? Sorta Galaxy Quest?

I read some reviews, and man... it sounds like season 1 was a borderline disaster, then season 2 miraculously 'pulled it all together.' You almost never see that in a TV series, wow.

There is no scale measure, either you are or you are not.

eagle-head boss

Speaking of Eagles, I watched the first series of Peacemaker not long ago and that show is an absolute hoot, at least 9 Stars and Stripes for me. :hysterical

Now let's see, mmm season 2, best procure that. :pirat:

Wow, I really enjoyed this animation style.

To me, most CG animation looks like it's stuck in an awkward zone, needlessly more elaborate than traditional, but rarely very convincing as 3D.

I think Simon Biggs has done something quite clever here, stripping the CG back until it captures the clean look of traditional, and coming up with a beautiful grey-scale, steampunk style to make it really shine.

I just watched Godzilla vs. Kong (2021). It is a good show. Yea it is an old story with a few new twists but the execution is beautiful.

Yes!! That one, and the new King of Monsters, (The one right before Godzilla Vs Kong) was pretty good.
Godzilla doesn't take crap from anything!!

Hey have you guys ever read those Lone Wolf Adventure books?
I used to read these all the time when I was younger.
517C7RAQ9WL.jpg

Before everyone could afford to buy videogame systems, us kids had to find our adventures elsewhere.
The following is a collection of Lone Wolf Adventure Books written by Joe Dever. I read these books from 4th grade to 7th grade.
These are not read like normal books!!!
Joe Dever has released these to the Public!!
And Project Aon is what it's called.

Here is the books Download page.. https://www.projectaon.org/en/Main/AllOfTheBooks

I have only downloaded the one at top that says "standard full-featured, multi-page HTML editions"

Here is the Direct Download link to it.... http://www.projectaon.org/en/pub/all-books.zip
This is the Offline Version

You will find 4 Folders inside this zip archive. The 3rd folder is lw which stands for Lone Wolf. The other folders are other Adventure Books.

To Start a Book...

Go into folder and find "toc.htm" (Which stands for Table Of Contents) and double-click to start each book.

This will always be starting place for each book and is usually found towards the end of the files.

When you read a page, at the bottom there will be a foward button with arrow pointing right....

You need to click this unless it asks you a question, and then you just click the appropriate answer, and it will take you to that page in the story.

This is not like a regular book!! When you start reading it, you will see what I mean.

The strategy is to make it through the whole story alive. You will collect many items and learn many disciplines on your Lone Wolf Journeys...If you go into battle and lose your all your life, you must restart from beginning of the book. There are many ways to lose your life...Be careful!!! Items gained can be carried over into next book. So start with Book 1 in the "lw" folder

Here are the rules as posted on site...
The [Kai] Game Rules
These rules do not come from any particular book. They are a generic set of rules designed to help new readers familiarize themselves with the rules--not walk the reader through a particular book. The details of the rules in each book will differ from what you find here.

You keep a record of your adventure on the Action Chart.

During your training as a Kai Lord you have developed fighting prowess--COMBAT SKILL and physical stamina--ENDURANCE. Before you set off on your adventure you need to measure how effective your training has been. To do this take a pencil and, with your eyes closed, point with the blunt end of it on to the Random Number Table. If you pick 0 it counts as zero.
If you have already completed an adventure with your character, you should not pick his COMBAT SKILL and ENDURANCE again. You should use those scores already picked.

The first number that you pick from the Random Number Table in this way represents your COMBAT SKILL. Add 10 to the number you picked and write the total in the COMBAT SKILL section of your Action Chart (i.e. if your pencil fell on the number 4 in the Random Number Table you would write in a COMBAT SKILL of 14). When you fight, your COMBAT SKILL will be pitted against that of your enemy. A high score in this section is therefore very desirable.

The second number that you pick from the Random Number Table represents your powers of ENDURANCE. Add 20 to this number and write the total in the ENDURANCE section of your Action Chart (i.e. if your pencil fell on the number 6 on the Random Number Table you would have 26 ENDURANCE points).

If you are wounded in combat you will lose ENDURANCE points. If at any time your ENDURANCE points fall to zero or below, you are dead and the adventure is over. Lost ENDURANCE points can be regained during the course of the adventure, but your number of ENDURANCE points can never go above the number with which you start your adventure.
You start each adventure with your maximum ENDURANCE point score (see Lone Wolf Club Newsletter: Summer Special 1987).

If you have successfully completed any previous book of the Lone Wolf series, you will already have your COMBAT SKILL, ENDURANCE points and Kai Disciplines which you can now carry over with you to this book. You may also carry over any Weapons and Special Items that you held at the end of the previous book and these should be entered on your new Action Chart (you are still limited to two Weapons and eight Backpack Items).
You may also carry over any Backpack Items and Currency (e.g. Gold Crowns) that you possessed at the end of the last adventure. Some readers feel that you should not carry over Meals since they are perishable, but this is not even hinted at in the rules, so this is optional.

You may choose one bonus Kai Discipline to add to your Action Chart for every Lone Wolf adventure you have successfully completed; then read the section on equipment for this book carefully.
You may add one Discipline if you have completed a previous adventure successfully. In other words, you earn one new Discipline each time you complete an adventure successfully.

We used to have to keep track of these items and things with seperate piece of paper.
But now they have an Action Chart that you can keep track of all your items with.

The Action Charts use Java. (Has a built-in Number Generator for battles and can save until next reading time.)

I hope you enjoy these as much as I did growing up reading them.
Well what are you waiting for?
Let the Lone Wolf Adventure begin!!

The books look cool. I see they can be downloaded as epub which should work on my ipad. Are they listed in the order that they should be read on this page?

They are indeed in order on that page.
Items you collect in the older books can be used in the newer books.
They have some great stories, and put you in just about every situation you can think of.
Kind of like that old Zork game. (Except this is a book instead of Video Game.)

I wouldn't mind trying to make a Pinball game based on this series.
There is some great art on every cover!!
I already have a Baldur's Gate Pinball table in mind, where you battle different monsters, and it will be based on the Lone Wolf battle system sort of.
So many ideas, so little time!! lol

Oh man, those were some REALLY nice books and choose-your-own-adventure experiences, as I experienced them. :D

To explain-- me, I first read them and played the adventures on Android tablet a couple years ago, even tho the original books came out much earlier, like.. 1984?

My personal situation, back around 1984-85, is that me & my D&D, 'fantasy-friends' were reading the "Horseclans" series (featuring some genetic freaks who were all-but immortal, much like the Highlander series, remember them? I must say, that was a LONG-ass series, going on like two-dozen books or so.

I still love this style of adventure & books, so kill me. Recently I've been digging this one, on my phone:

Just watched Enola Holmes 2, the other day and rather enjoyed it, it may not make the top 100 holmes movies, though maybe it will, it is one charming romp indeed, that if you do watch, watch until the very end ;). The greatest flaw in this film would be the title, they do the whole film an injustice by calling it Enola Holmes 2 when it is so much more.

I never saw the first one so maybe I will watch both.

I thought these 3 movies were pretty good:

Don’t Let Go (2019)
Freaks (2018)
I Am Mother (2019)

Here is one of my favorite genres from my childhood, and still even today is one of my faves!!!
Not sure about everyone else, but when I was growing up, I wanted to be a Ninja!!
Here is a top 10 Shaw Brothers Martial Arts movies!!
Love these!! Shaw Brothers made about 1,000 Martial Arts movies!!

OMG, my favorite Shaw Bros movie was one where the Japanese ninjas sneakily destroyed the Shao-Lin-temple guys, but then the Shao-Lin guys figured out specific ways to fight and defeat the ninjas, using their very own techniques!!

BEST MOVIE EVER

One of the best card trick sequences I've ever seen:
