What music are you listening to?

So when I was a kid, I would sometimes sneak up to the attic and illicitly paw through my mom & stepdad's amazing collection of dusty albums. There were loads of classics, like Randy Newman, Van Morrison, Janis, Muddy Waters, Dylan, Leon Redbone, etcetera.

But here and there were ALSO hilarious, relatively-unknown gems, such as Stanley Holloway's 'Ere's 'Olloway. (remember that fine laddie, @elton?) In any case, here's a couple samples:

(bonus pts for Pete's meat pies, right?)

A few good bands my brother introduced to me.
Godsmack

3 Doors Down (This one plays 12 videos in a row.)

Creed My Own Prison

Creed Human Clay

Now-- I don't know if I HAVE taste, or LACK taste, or LACTASE, or whatever, huhuh! (Peewee laugh)
But man, I do like that third song by Creed!

Kinda reminds me of the 'glorious alt/grunge times' in the 90's, featuring Stone Temple Pilots, Eddie Vedder, Kurt, Spin Doctors, The Breeders, Cardigans, 4 Non Blondes, Aimee Mann, Alanis, Belly, Breeders, and special shoutout to Elliott Smith! ("Needle in the Hay")

Look what I've found!
This vynil was 305 "escudos" in old Portuguese money. 1967 release.

I wonder how its condition is. Only one way to find out :)

Gave it a good wash. Like new.
Science can come and tell me I'm old and I don't hear as well as I did anymore, that it is not practical and that spotify quality is enough...
With all due respect, science can kiss my ass! Pure old stereo vinyl recorded with old tech and it still sounds better today than most CD's in the last 20 years.
You need to be deaf to not hear it and most importantly, you can almost see it. It's THAT good.

It amazes me every.single.time. Now excuse me, I have a masterpiece of a record to hear :)

Today I listen mostly to bands of the "Dungeon Synth" genre e.g. Aindulmedir... maybe I'm growing old but I find less and less artists and musicians that give a focal point we (me & artist) both enjoy... most of them being interested in "music as a weapon" or gaining profit or trying to convince me of something.
Otherwise, Led Zeppelin is always a fine listen. There are still some "glo-fi" and "vaporwave" bands from 2005-2015 (not to mention their lonely counterparts from the late 80's and early 90's: coldwave & co.) who most certainly merit attention, but as they don't have enough purchase to have places dedicated to them... and even if they did, how sure could you be of people coming to enjoy their music?
Yeah sorry for the digression(s), maybe I just want to prove that people younger than you can also be nostalgic. Or maybe I want you to prove me wrong.
I wish you all my best.

Alternative Synthwave Rock mostly I listen to, or classic rock .

This song is very good even if you don't like heavy metal the vocals are just too good.

I'm not familiar with those styles exactly, i.e. Dungeon Synth, Glo-Fi & Vaporware. Feel free to share some favorite examples. :-)
...

So the other day I received quite the shock browsing tunes on Youtube. Came across a Monty Python song I'd never heard before. I suppose this was from a musical collection, and too naughty to be played on their old show. Or something.

NSFW (I reckon)

Well I already mentioned an example for Dungeon Synth:

Here is a good example for Vaporwave... maybe skip the first track:

Glo-fi is more of a conceptual genre (which means it doesn't live up to its description... yet?) so maybe it's better that I'll link to its wikipedia:

Dungeon Synth sounds a bit like ambient music. I posted this a while back:

This is probably the only ambiental music I listened to as much as the dungeonsynth stuff but got bored of it some years ago... maybe this' a nice occasion to revisit.

seems like we are having a small collection gathering for Good Friday!

You might like this. It is a bit darker:

I love listening to Police scanners.
I use this site and it is free.
Pick the State you want, and then County.

Here is San Francisco...
Looks like you can only listen to Highway Patrol, and Fire and EM.

Hah, used to love listening to SF 10-33, but unfortunately "Most San Francisco Police radio is now encrypted and no longer available"
Hmm, I don't think I've ever listened to police radio, San Fran or otherwise.

To be clear, the one I shared above is audio from NASA's moon landings, set to music similar to Aindulmedir's stuff. It's got a very relaxing vibe, but is chock full of history and incidental little science bits. I listen to it on a regular basis.

Anyway, I'll try out the police radio, next!

Well, yeah, the SF 10-33 was very relaxing too, soothing even, that's why the NASA one reminded me of it.
I looked at xenoph's recommendation, LAPD - South Bureau seems to have a pretty similar chatter frequency as SF 10-33 had in the good ol' days but can one really compare this to the refined crime of San Fran? Still, playing it in the same time with Deep Space One ( https://somafm.com/deepspaceone/ ) brings me pretty close!

Haha, nice.

I love SomaFM.
Glad you found something there that you liked.

Btw, how does San-Fran police chatter compare to Romanian?
Or does that comparison not even make sense?

(I'm a bit of a Europhile, so I'm always curious about these things)

All police communications are encrypted in Europe, and there is a push for that in the USA too, unfortunately...
In the USA this most probably marks the end of any possibility to re-establishin balance between "aggressive disorder" (to put it mildly) and justice, a balance that started fading in the early 1970's when police activity went from crime prevention to maybe we will investigate if enough people complain. This was an official policy change, you can look it up.
If I could clap my hands and change all Rumanian "police" "officers" to some hard-core 1950s / 1960s American Police Officers who care about what they see, hear, smell and take every square inch of the streets as part of their being... well... *clap clap*

@centaur,
Not to ignore your thoughts on American police, but... I'm not saying you're wrong.
Still though, even a trouble-making rascal such as myself... I feel like there are better places for this discussion.

ANYWAY...
Youtube just hit me with this olde classique a little earlier.
Dang, what a pleasant little song to my ears:

First of all, it was not a discussion, just a comment. Second, it's exactly the best place for discussing that as I would bet that even trouble-making rascals such as yourself would prefer laws to be made and scrutinized by people who have read at least one book in their life... and enforced by people who have a choice in what they do and what world they would prefer to live in. Sure, that doesn't have to be the police, but when these conditions are not met, it's a sad day for everyone... and very hard to slap back to normality short of stuff like genocides and mass executions. Third, it's not a question about "right" and "wrong", quite the opposite.

Anyway, not to be off-topic

So here is another band I listened too back in the 80's.
Krokus
My favorite albums are The Blitz, and Headhunter.
But while looking up these albums, I found their first album made in 1976.
Sounds great, but is totally different from their 80's albums.
This albums title is Krokus.

And here is Headhunter

And here is The Blitz

@centaur,
Sounds like we're getting a bit lost in translation.
I don't necessarily disagree with you, though.

Btw, the YT link you shared doesn't seem to show up in the States.
It says "video unavailable," and can't be watched on YT, either.

@xenonph,
I'm liking Krokus' first album. It hits me with some 60's psychedelic, progressive, and jammy vibes.
They also remind me of YES at times (King Crimson too?), and even Spinal Tap a bit, in all the best ways.

Pretty cool that a Swiss band made such an impact in the States, too!

@LeeVanCleef doesn't post here anymore, but a few years back he shared some really neat American-style pop-rock from the 60's & 70's, but made by an Indonesian band. Sometimes I think we get stuck in sort of a 'USA & Brit-centric' mode when it comes to popular music, but I enjoy how many other bands around the world produced stuff in similar genres, but often just as good.
