What music are you listening to?

Just got all the worlds a Stage double album from Rush, for 2 bucks. :)

I'd call it their 2nd best album. I'd say "Moving Pictures" is the best or "2112"?

farewell to kings. :)
Xanadu. absolute masterpiece

Holy gazizzle-zoiks, that was QUITE a fine jam until Getty Lee opened his dang mouth. D:

Still, I really liked some of the band's stuff, like "Tom Sawyer."
Remember that one...?

I have 15 Rush albums. Oddly, I had Xanadu on "farewell to kings" unrated on iTunes. I increased the rating so I would listen to it more.

In which case-- the following song is dedicated to every old man in life, stuck listening to their same ol' same ol' favorite tunes:

#1 meh... I've heard autotune before.

Had to upload this video after hearing Gimli's song. It reminded me of a Blind Faith song.
Great chord progressions, and guitar plucking!! Love this type of music!
I think we have a famous singer in our midst!!
Find Gimli's "Closer to the Light" song by his band, The Howlers here!!!

This is the Acoustic version of "Can't Find My Way Home" by Blind Faith.

Here is another album I listened to in the early 80's. (Thanks to my brother.)

I have the album. Really fantastic. It is too bad they only recorded the one album but I suppose you could get some "Traffic" to help round it out.

He sounds a lot like Mick Jagger on "You May Be Right". I don't have Glass Houses but have a copy of a 4 disc boxed set that I borrowed from a friend which includes "You May Be Right".

About a year ago at the local karaoke place I'd had some big 'hits' with high-register stuff like Smokey Robinson's Being with You and Eric Clapton's Bell Bottom Blues.

Later, the Clapton connection reminded me of this particular song. Steve Winwood's vocal on this one would have been the most ambitious thing I'd ever tried, so I was trying to psyche myself up and work on improving the quality of my range before stepping on stage. Now I'd certainly crashed and burned on stage before, and do feel like it's all part of the process (and a great future motivator), but still... it would have been embarrassing doing so with a tune I really admire.

Alas, the place shuttered late last year, and I missed my chance.

Anyway, it really is a magical song. I love the way the high-pitched vocals never become shrill, and the way Clapton's rare acoustic guitar track kept everything grounded and relaxed. I'd be surprised if there was more than a handful of songs in history's song catalog that could pull this kind of thing off so well.

Btw, here's an old favorite site with some background on this song. As usual the comments range from fascinating to complete speculation:

Funny, I don't think I heard that song at all until the late 80's, when I was in a Rap phase. There might have been a song that sampled it, not sure.

But also, I think this song was popular around that time in dance club and radio mixes, where they'd pick a long series of songs that flowed in to each other in a complimentary way, without waiting for any of them to properly end.

Hmm, for some reason that song reminds me just a little bit of this one:

I went through and created some boogie playlists last week. Post disco 79-85. Early dancefloor stuff, rares, some are really expensive like $300.

When this here song is sung well, I submit to you that it's rather... magical!

I am sure you guys have all heard of Trans Siberian Orchestra?
Not sure if they are Siberian, or trans, (neither of which makes a difference) but it is Christmas music with rock n roll kick, and I like it!

Here is Christmas Canon..

and Wizards in Winter...

And a Christmas album..

Another great Christmas album..(This one will automatically play next song after song is played, so just let it keep running.)
Mannheim Steamroller...

All of these songs are all played unconventionally. Which is why they stick out in my eyes.
Great sounds for this time of year!!

Holy shit. :bigfrown:
...The Zappa’s spent a time in Florida in the 1940s before relocating to Maryland, where Francis worked at the Edgewood Arsenal chemical warfare facility at the Aberdeen Proving Ground for the US military. Due to their house being so close to the arsenal, which stored large quantities of mustard gas, gas masks were kept at home, meaning that the spectre of chemical warfare was something that the young Frank Zappa was exposed to early. As with all of us, our childhood significantly impacts our adult life, with references to warfare and the defence industry recurring throughout the musician’s discography.

This wasn’t totally unique, though, as there were many children in Zappa’s boots, but what is incomprehensible, even for the day, is that Francis would intermittently bring lab equipment filled with mercury home from work for Frank to play with. Years later, The Mothers of Invention man later said that he “used to play with it all the time”. Zappa recalled that he would put the mercury on the floor and use a hammer to spray out mercury droplets in a circular pattern, covering the whole of his bedroom floor.

As is commonly known, childhood exposure to elemental mercury is toxic, and in men, it exponentially increases the risk of developing prostate cancer in adulthood. In a tragic turn of events, Frank Zappa was diagnosed with a terminal form of the disease in 1990, and on December 4th, 1993, he succumbed to it.

Unsurprisingly, Zappa was almost always sick as a child, with asthma, earaches and sinus issues plaguing him. In another entirely unbelievable act through today’s lens, one doctor even treated a bout of sinusitis by inserting radium pellets into each of Zappa’s nostrils.

I'd never heard that about Frank's life before.

His dad has some things to answer for, as it was pretty well known even by the ~mid 1800's that mercury compounds were -not- a thing to play with.

I guess if there's a positive here, it's that Frank was definitely an 'out of the box' thinker his whole life, which wouldn't be much of a surprise from mercury vapors and perhaps skin absorption over time.
